Thanks Diff! I always love all the options you give us for our downloading pleasure.
A seconded thanks to Diff for providing these. You've probably been chomping at the bit getting new media as of late...and you likely needed oxygen after this one.
That acappella one is amazing...though it's a tad slowed down--making Kat's voice sound slightly different. Hopefully that can be adjusted, but I'm a big fan of those acappella mixes so you can focus on the richness of an artist's voice.
Kat's voice was so supple tonight that you can listen to her performance over and over and never get tired of it. Coming from me (who doesn't usually listen to recordings over and over due to getting it too imbedded in the brain)--that says a lot about the quality.
Don't be surprised to hear at least Randy say somewhere else that Kat's performance was one of the best (if not the best) in the series' history. Also, be glad that he didn't insist she sing "Real Love" just to have a chance to be on "AI" again. To me, that says they still respect her due to letting her do her own thing.
And I've come to the conclusion that "Real Love" is really Elliot's song based on the law of vocal averages...
Yes, thanks so much for the options!
thanks for these
Just got this back from Sylvia!!! God we love her!!
Sylvia
That made my day!!!
A great take on a classic beatles song. It was nice to see her on the stage again.
I would love to hear her rendition's of other classic beatles ballads such as: "Yesterday", "Hey Jude", "Let It Be", and "The Long and Winding Road" to name a few....
Sylvia is awesome! She ws always so supportive to us Kat fans during the song promotions. She always responded to my my emails with excitement and encouragement.
Let me guess. You listened to Kat's a cappella with eyes closed? It's a known fact that doing that will cause the listener to lose track of space and time! lol The a cappella maybe just sounds slower because of the absence of accompaniment (?). It should be the same length.
btw I noticed there's even more echo than I first thought, but all of that is in the original audio.
I haven't tried the megaupload vid, but VLC player should work http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Glad everyone's enjoying the audio! I noticed they changed the way they mix the audio back at Top 16 so I was hoping it would be the same last night. It was!

Thanks guys for all these media. Kat sounds beautiful as always, I'm so happy she's back on Idol!!!
Thanks BigShady! Good to have those medium sized high quality vids too!
Idol Wrap had a little clip with Kimberly, Justin and some radio guy guest commenting on "Something". Kimberly sure likes Kat's voice!

I heard "Something" when it first came out and for 40 years I've thought the lyric was:
"I don't wanna leave her now, you know I believe in how"
Katharine got a bit of flack for changing the lyric to:
"I don't wanna leave him now, you know I believe him now"
Which sounded just a little bit repetitive to me. Some people were saying this was changed from:
"I don't wanna leave her now, you know I believe and how"
Looking at various lyrics websites it seems the actual lyric is:
"I don't wanna leave her now, you know I believe her now"
Which means that all Katharine did was change the gender which is a very common thing to do when covering a song originaly by someone of the opposite sex.
To me though, it still sounds like:
in the official album release and George Harrison's demo. Not that "I believe in how" makes a whole lot of sense but this is pop music we are talking about here.
Anyway, regardless - great song and a great cover of it by Katharine.
"Something" is the new SOTR. No doubt she will be doing it at every event she sings at for the rest of the year. I can't say I mind one bit.
George and Patti Boyd. They met on the set of "A Hard Day's Night" in 64 and married in 65? 66? George wrote "Something" for Patti in 69? 70? She left him for Eric Clapton. Eric Clapton wrote "Layla" for her. George and Eric stayed good friends. Eric is god father to George's son by his second wife. Or something.
I always thought the wording was strange....and yes, I did think it was "you know I believe in how" and since I always had trouble deciphering the lyrics in some of the songs of the '60's (like Bob Dylan) I just figured I wasn't hearing it right. So, thanks Phee for clearing that up for me after 40 years!!
Also, (and once again it's probably my hearing) I could swear that Katharine's first line of lyrics as she walked to center stage was "Something in the way she moves". So, right away I was trying to figure out the words! I've listened to my TV recording several times now and I still think that's what I hear.
As far as her being taken to task about changing the words and some of the arrangement, AI judges are always saying to "change it up a bit" and "make it your own". There are always going to be those quick to criticize Katharine, no matter what. I know that the Beatles songs are practically "hymns" of the British Invasion, and as such, are revered by those with Beatlemania, however, I don't think that David's musical arrangement would be offensive to George if he was to hear it. And, David wouldn't suggest anything to Katharine that might have stood her in bad light on her "homecoming night performance". I really did enjoy David's arrangement better than the original......Oh No! I just committed a Sacrilege!!!
George and Patti Boyd. They met on the set of "A Hard Day's Night" in 64 and married in 65? 66? George wrote "Something" for Patti in 69? 70? She left him for Eric Clapton. But George and Eric stayed good friends. Eric is god father to George's son by his second wife. Or something.
I think the "in how" lyric is correct. The musical phrase ends there, but I believe that lyric is in the middle of a sentence that's completed in the next musical phrase, if that makes sense. The "and how" theory is funny; the only person I've ever heard use that expression is Moe Howard from the Three Stooges.
I doubt that Kat will be performing this song over and over. She probably wouldn't be happy with it or allow it. Kat's rendition is very good, considering how difficult the song is to cover. Frank Sinatra proclaimed it the best song in the last 50 years, but then proceeded to butcher his version of "Something"
When Paula Cole appeared in the background while Kat sang a cover of her song "Me", I disliked it, but that actually would've offered a nice contrast during Kat's singing. The Beatles, brilliant as they were, looking particularly butt-ugly in that "Something" video with their late-60s scruffiness, against Kat's shimmering beauty.
Hey guys, can someone help me!
Finally, I had the chance to listen to all the wonderful caps of Katharine's performances. Thank you so much to you guys for taking the time to make use of your knowledge and equipment to provide this for us!
As I was listening, I suddenly remembered that when Katharine was on Idol, people (including Clive Davis) kept stressing that she needs to find "her sound" so that people would recognize Katharine McPhee when listening to the radio. Well, I think she now has it!! Whether it is because of a year or two of maturity since those Idol days or because David Foster brings out the best in her including developing "her sound", I'm not sure and it really doesn't matter. I'm just saying that there is no way after that Something performance that the world can't recognize the voice singing as that belonging to the one and only Katharine McPhee!
Any KMF/IDFers remember who helped wu weidong at IDF when she was having problems with divshare? Was it Nicholas that PMed her some proxy information?
Je_suis_jess, for your region, you would either need to pay divshare for access or use a free proxy to access it. If we can track down who helped wu weidong, he/she may be able to help you too.
In the meantime, maybe you can help me with some information. How is your access to these upload sites:
megaupload?
rapidshare?
mediafire?
Can you get to them at all? Are there certain times that you can't? Are there problems because the site only allows access to a small number of people?
I'm asking because I'd like to know what other options are possible for international fans.
