AMERICAN IDOL sweetheart KATHARINE McPHEE has become engaged to the man who helped nurse her through her battle with bulimia.
Her longtime boyfriend, Nick Cokas, proposed to the 23-year-old recently, but friends insist it wasn't a big surprise.
An insider tells American magazine OK!, "They've been talking about it (marriage) for some time."

Just saw this in my google alerts. The whole on-line kat-community is going to be buzzing about it. You can't keep stuff like this down forever. And it's not like it was a malicious rumor started for some nefarious purpose, or it's like something out those stupid grocery store rags (It was real! McPhee gives birth to alien baby after movie wrap party!).

Much ado about nothing, is all I have to say. It still amazes me how people are so interested in the private lives of performers. It makes no difference (or shouldn't anyway) in the quality of their work, so I try to stay a very far distance from their private lives.

I tend to agree with bcollan; I don't really see the need for this cr#p here.

It's funny (I suppose) how some people are reacting to this. It's like their world is ending just because she might be getting hitched in the near future.  Um, HELLO!! She's been "hitched" to the guy for what, two years now? Without going into details, I'm pretty sure they've played "married couple" during much of that time (like most other unwed couples). So, that said, how is their getting their union legalized going to change things?

And it's hardly that life-changing step some people make it out to be. Assuming it's true (and it looks like it may be), her career isn't going to suffer because of it. It ain't that big of a deal, as far as career-altering "events" go.

Now if she were having a kid, then it would be a whole different ball game. THAT's a MAJOR life/career altering event  (far more than marriage).

Oh boy another rumor, how fun! I've gotten sucked into believing these type of rumors before but this time I am not going to believe it until Kat says it herself. On the lines of the rumor possibly being true: It doesn't really surprise me because she's been with the man for 2 years now and it would seem like the appropriate time to propose. I agree with EM745, (if the rumor is true) this doesn't change anything about Kat, she'll still be the same person and she'll still continue to make music. Even with a kid, if she has to raise a kid, that doesn't mean her career would be over, that just means her career would be on hold for awhile.

I'm sorry for speculating, I won't believe a word until it is verified but I just wanted to put in my two cents on the topic.

I've witnessed this type of situation for decades, and if it ultimately becomes true that Kat and Nick were to be married, it certainly won't help her career, but it shouldn't kill it either. The fans that primarily support and follow movie actors seem a bit more tolerant of this kind of thing, than the fans that follow pop stars. If it becomes true, I don't think it is a very wise career move, but little Kat has done of late I think has been too terribly wise in career development. (Solely my opinion) But, it's her life and her career, and she can do with it as she so pleases.
