Kat now has 2 Top 40 songs on the chart in South Africa at the same time. Over It is still doing well at #24 and Love Story has joined it at #38 http://www.take40sa.co.za/ She really should go there at some point! They seem to love her there!
I love how we say "elsewhere"...like we're not allowed to use the three letters here. But it does amaze me how well she's doing in South Africa. She really does need to visit there or at the very least do a radio interview on one of the stations.
Kat should go to South Africa--because it's a beautiful country in more ways than one. A lot of people think you won't hear English there--but communication there is perfectly understandable. And I've learned that South Africa usually has good taste in music all the way around. They basically tilt a little toward what America would consider to be AC territory--but it's fairly certain they aren't enamored there of Britney or much Hip-Hop. Maybe it's because they have an older population (I'll have to look into that), though I think it has more to do with them carving their own identity away from the rest of the world.
When you see Michael Buble at #1--then you know SA is in to classic type of voices, too. Call it what you like, but we may be looking at an untainted country that a lot of people in America wish could happen here. The music business has changed exponentially here in America just in the last ten years. Seeing reruns of Jay Leno this last week from the mid-90's (due to the strike) reminds me that even Jay Leno was willing to put on a jazz vocalist as his musical guest (Anita Baker) in 1995. Today, Leno wouldn't be caught dead putting on a musical act singing jazz or even a romantic power ballad.
Well, now we know where to go when we truly want to go to a semi-utopia. I haven't personally been to SA yet--though I talk to friends all the time who have and say it's amazing both in the arts, people and scenery. Some musical artists from America and Canada have performed there (Buble apparently has) and the audiences are rapturous. I think most of us would love to see Kat get a reception like that at one of her concerts.
