Sad news to report courtesy of wu weidon/IDF..Love Story is now down to just one station ..Honolulu. Sadly the past few days other stations playing LS have been dropping off the mediabase station chart list. Only 'Over It' is still being played.
What is our course of action now?
WE NEED EVERYONE TO GET TO TRL AND VH1 AND YOUR LOCAL RADIO STATIONS

THAT'S ME... DJ's stink! I even pointed that out to them (anonymously, of course. Can't have them p!ssed at me). Kat came here for Red, White, and Boom in KC, and everyone loved her, and now they aren't playing Over It OR Love Story! It's maddening!
Ahem. I take issue with that one. I'm a former (and sometimes present) DJ. Even back in the good old days our hands were pretty much tied. If you think the DJ has the power to play any song (even it's on the charts) you are sadly mistaken. The DJ's are told what and when to play. I can understand your frustration, but it's not directed in the proper direction.

Things might be a little different now, as I only fill in on occasion, but when I was a daily DJ with a regular time slot, I was given "THE LIST". This list contained everything I could and couldn't do and play on air, and the maximum number of times I could play a particular track, even if it was on "THE LIST". Back in the day, I was given so many "free slots", where I could play what I wanted. These slots were minimal; Maybe 2 in an 8 hr shift. Requests ALWAYS deferred to the list; meaning even if we got 10,000 requests for "Love Story" for example, we couldn't play it, if it wasn't on the list. I know there are a lot of wheelings and dealings that happen in the backroom and in upper management levels that I am not, nor ever was privy to, so I don't know who controls or makes up the list. All I know is that at the beginning of every shift, I am handed that ALMIGHTY LIST and that is my bible for the day. At least in the stations I frequent, any DJ not adhering to this list and guidelines will be disciplined; meaning immediately taken off the air, and which may ultimately cause termination. So, I don't get too upset when I don't hear my favorite song on the radio, because I realize that the playlists are already orchestrated and there is very little that can be done about it. Of course, this is just my situation. Every station has their own policies; these just happen to be the policies that I must adhere to when I am on the air.
At least in my market, the reason "Love Story" is not being played, is because it isn't on the list. No deep dark controversy or communist plot or anything.... If it's not on the list, it won't get played. This song is one of MANY in this situation. Not too comforting, but that's the way it is.

Yeah, those fun days of college radio are gone, where I could play pretty much what I wanted. I remember fondly of putting on a long cut by "Rush" (Necromancer, 2112) or "Stray Dog" (Tramp, How it is) so I could co out and grab a potty break and a smoke.
