Bravo GB3535!!!, I think that has been the issue for so many of Kat's fans. Kat's talent has set the bar so high that it is virtually impossible for her to excede that in every fans' mind and therefore most could be doomed to disappointment.

I go back to her AI performances. Her "average" performance was so incredible that when she faltered just a bit like on a couple of songs she was treated very harshly by the judges. Whereas say Taylor's average was so mediocre that when he had a decent performance like "In the Ghetto" the judges thought it was spectacular. It's all a matter of perspective.

Maybe this was easier for me because I LOVE good dancable R&B with great singers singing great songs. True the best song on Kat's CD to me, Everywhere I Go, is not that but so much else is. So I was content with the genre she chose and have enjoyed the CD very very much. Would I have liked some changes? Certainly! Track placement is questionable IMO. I would have highlighted Neglected and Everywhere I Go more. I'm not a big fan of Each Other, though the AOL version is great and has a better groove,. I would have pulled Dangerous and EO and put the long lost two Ryan Leslie tracks on somehow. Also I would put OW at the end of the CD. But those are trivial in the grand scheme of things. Kat will definitely have an even better second CD even if RCA decides they are not interested. I'm sure Maverick will be. But I DO believe that with what Kat had to work with and with the time she had to do it in she made an incredible effort. And the reason for that is this girl is just that good! Quality will always do fine. This is always a crap shoot. Hey anyone that knows me from AI knows how much I love Carrie Underwood but I like Kat's CD is better than Some Hearts. There is alot of fill on Carrie's CD and look at the difference in sales. No one can say that Carrie's CD is THAT much better than Kat's. Things just have a way of taking on a life of their own and Carrie got lucky. Kat is still trying to find that place where things become self sustaining. I'm just happy to be along for the ride!

You know, I've thought long and hard about this for a couple of days now...exactly why Kat's album hasn't thrilled me, especially LS, my least favorite track. I've been in this music game for long enough now, that I can usually articulate what I like or don't like fairly easily, but not here. It's not at all that I don't like Pop or the now trendy Pop/R&B blend or anything like that. At first I blamed it on the songwriting, but I'm not sure that is it either.

The only way I can explain it is this way... For me Kat's album is like that $100 bottle of wine that you never order at a restaurant. You know it is one of the finest there is, but you've been fairly satistified with that ordinary $20 or $30 bottle that you always get. Then one day, you are out with friends and you decide that you will splurge on that $100 bottle of wine. You are really excited about getting it and savoring that first sip, but even after the second glass, it just doesn't quite satisfy. It wasn't that it was a bad bottle or inferior grapes, but it wasn't quite as good as you anticipated it to be.

And I think that is my problem with the album. It isn't Kat's problem or the producer's, but MY problem. You see, I hyped up the CD in my head so much thinking that this "will be the finest recording ever to be made" or something similar, that no matter what Kat would have released, I probably wouldn't have been satisfied. So it isn't exactly the CD I would have had her make. So what CD is???? Now that I am realizing that it is more MY problem than an actual problem with the album itself, I have been enjoying listening to it again.

I know I haven't exactly been kind in my opinions of the CD, but I think I can appreciate it with fresh ears now. And if Kat keeps these "special performance" tunes coming, like the Rhapsody sessions and the like, I think that will keep me more than satisfied until she decides to record again.

Me too!! So I was quite disappointed when I heard the leaked tracks for the first time. Especially Open Toes, to me that song was kind of annoying and plastic when I first heard the preview.  I was like, "WTH Kat?", but then, I immediately told myself that this was an initial effort from Kat, and from my experience, first albums doesn't deliver too much for me, (except for "Songs About Jane" though) so it's quite disappointing.

I said to myself, whatever Kat will release, I will support, I mean, I've virtually have gone with her every step of the way as she made the big efforts to launch her career, on AI, during the tour, the recording and every little events in between. So the question for me now is, am I crazy about Kat's album? Not really. Did it disappoint me? Yes it definitely did. But it didn't make me less of a fan of hers now than I was more than a year ago.

I say, it's up to us to really choose our attitude about stuff like this, we may talk technicalities and experiences and everything, but in the end really, it's all about how we want to perceive the album is and the amount of support that we want to give to Kat.

ALL YOU HATERS AND BASHERS, TAKE HEED!!!

yeah.. kat can sing pop fine. But I agree with him in some aspects. I especially agree with him saying that Kat has yet to release the type of single that made a lot of people vote for her. I have yet to hear her release the type of single that made me vote for her.

Altho, i do LOOOVE the LS video.

But man oh man.. I hope she releases Home or Better of Alone..

I agree, Cheskie. I love Kat's voice. I was not happy about the direction of her CD. IMO, there are pop singers all over the place. Can she break into that group? Only time will tell. I have talked to a lot of other fans like myself who were disappointed that she put out an album directed mainly at teens and 20-somethings. I'm still waiting for a single to be released that really shows her voice for the wonderful instrument it is. What scares me is that if sales don't pick up she won't be putting out another album. At least not with RCA. It has happened to others and I don't want to see it happen to her. She needs to release one of the ballads. I hope she does for her third single. It just might bring back a lot of her fans who have not bought the CD because of the pop sound. I will always be her fan but I hope she and her team think of us older people when deciding the direction of the next one.
