Well while we wait for a possible AI appearance and the growth of Love Story to really get going, I started thinking and yes I let my optimistic side take over here. But when you combine single sales and full CD sales together, Katharine is actually the #2 seller from Season 5. Sales for Over It and the full CD together total 721K. Taylor has sold 677K of his CD and downloads of JTFTW have never shown up with any numbers so I expect that they would total less than the 44K difference. If they are then I apologize. Kellie has sold 526K and Country singles tend to not sell that well on downloads so even both probably have not passed the 195K needed to put her ahead of Kat. Actually I do think this is a very viable way to look at things for the record companies. The industry is changing dramatically towards the digital world and it will become more and more of a factor in how they decide the future for their artists. So when you look at things this way , being #2 again seems to be Kat's lucky number!

With her SOTR and her 1st album and single under her belt, the future can only be much brighter and that #2 tag will be # 1

I have never investigated the numbers, but didn't the 'SOTR' single do quite well?..... I mean, REALLY well? I don't want to open this can of worms again, but didn't it out perform Over It? I think that in itself is a little telling. Not that I don't enjoy her new style, I do, but I think I like the torchy, ballady Kat better. If we start looking at this in a business sort of way, I wonder if RCA/19 will let her put out another pop album, if this one doesn't catch on fire? Don't get up in arms people, I'm just speculating....

Actually SOTR is still selling but it has not been certified Gold yet. So it's sales are less than 500K. The last #s I saw a few months ago had it somewhere around 300K between physical copies and downloads so I think Over It at 400K has probably passed it.

Actually all this is great, but I don't think we can count on an American Idol appearance next week. We would have heard something by now.
