New OI Radio Request Support Site

I posted this in a few threads here already and over at IDF as well.

Here is the new Radio Request Support Website for requesting songs on the radio for Kat. Know that it is indeed a work in progress but I think a good start. I wanted to develop ONE place that people could go to get information pertaining to requesting OI (and eventually other Kat songs) on the radio. There is quite a bit of information. The site includes:

Detailed Spin Report (Sorted by either City or Market Rank)
Radio Station Contact List (Compiled from numerous sources and will be updated continuously)
Request Tips
Radio Market Size Numbers (By Population)

The site is strictly devoted to requesting songs. There are no pictures, video, music, chat, etc. Just request info.

We will also provide some analysis as to what stations are on the move, which are falling back, which ones are new, etc. This is not yet up on the site but will be (Of course you can draw your own conclusions by analyzing the report itself, but a quick summary outlining the major findings will help I think). This will be done when the spin report gets updated every few days.

Note that the site is very basic in its design. We just used Microsoft Word and Excel files saved out as .htm files, so the functionality and interactivity is pretty limited. We are not webmasters, but just basic dudes who want to do what we can to help Kat move up the charts. But if you have any recommendations on what would make the site work better, please feel free to e-mail us at katsongrequests@yahoo.com

Also note that the site is not intended to take the place of the quick update information that is posted in the  "Mediabase" threads here. Everyone is doing a great job at providing quick result information in these threads. The Radio Request site is primarily there to provide more detail if you want it, and most importantly it is the place you can find continually updated station contact numbers.

So go in and take a spin (no pun intended) and spread the word about the site. Every bit we can do for Kat to help her move up the charts is important. Without high digi downloads, she is going to need high airplay. So do your part and request as much as you can.

These contact pages with links are so helpful. You can buzz through and request multiple stations within just a few minutes. I hit up quite a bit of Michigan and will come back and do it again. I try to hit all the ones that don't ask for my address or zip code because they probably know if I'm just north of Detroit I probably can't pick up Salt Lake City.

This is a great resource, Doug, so thanks for putting that up. I've used radio-locator.org for quite a while, though, in finding radio stations in my area. There, you can find a lot of obscure radio stations in localized areas that could potentially be contacted. Though I've pretty much kept my requesting to the three mainstream ones you mention on your site. None of them replied either...other than one that I don't think is listed there. It was a Hot AC station outside of the Portland area.

I've gotten the impression that a lot of fans wanted to help out on the Street Team...but just got overwhelmed with all the different resources scattered everywhere. We were much more organized last summer here on KMF for the 'OtR' radio requesting campaign that seemed to be mostly fruitless. At least this time people knew better what to do...even though there's newer members coming aboard here on KMF daily now that will want to help. This site will help consolidate all of that.

For me, I have to get back on to requesting 'OI' in Portland. That one station is the only one apparently that's playing it recently. Z100 (Top 40) appears to be refusing to playing it in Portland...even with a Hot AC playing it. It's the same frustration with KIIS in L.A. who still refuses to play it. I really don't get what's behind all of that, especially with the snowballing of the song so many important places. Do they consider themselves so hip now that they'll be the absolutely last stations to play anything they don't automatically perceive as the coolest single out of the chute? We know Kat's single is quite family-friendly...but I can't believe that they consider that some kind of detriment in getting it played. Maybe program directors are getting to the point of accepting only truly edgy material on their stations...especially (strangely) on Clear Channel-owned ones...

Great. I see WHTS played her 30 times last week and WJIM 32 times. Yes, smaller markets but they all do add up. These two stations make up 1.16% of her total Audience Impressions for the week.

In that case I suppose I should hit them up again and thank them for playing her instead of requesting. I assume any show of interest helps somewhat. I really don't know how they function in that respect. I get too confused trying to figure out all the playlists and spins, etc. Can we safely assume that now that she's becoming an established recording artist, there won't be quite as much push needed just to get her on play lists when ensuing singles come out?

I don't think that is a safe assumption. She is just getting started and I would say that she will need at least 2 if not 3 decent singles before anyone would consider her an established recording artist. So , YES, continue to keep hitting them up there, it all adds up, and trust me, those requests do help. I just got word from the big station in Calif (STAR 101.3) that is playing her a lot that our requests have made a difference in their decision to play her so much (62 times last week). Here are all the reasons they cited:

1) Her overall popularity - American Idol is the hottest show in TV right now and even though Idol is behind her, people still see the correlation
2) Listeners Requesting
3) Sales

So keep up the requests!

Volunteers Needed For Station Contact List

I would like to request some help if some of you have the time. I am continuing to build the radio list at the Radio Request Support Site ( www.magicwave.com/mcphee/oiradiorequests/contacts.htm) and I need some volunteers to help gather information. There are still quite a few stations without contact information and many that only have partial information. If you are interested in helping out, you can message me in here or send me an e-mail at katsongrequests@yahoo.com

Gathering the information is as easy as visiting the station's website and reporting the info back to me. Here is the information we need if they have it:

The better our Station List is, the easier it will be for people to find the information they need. There are still about 175 stations that have yet to spin her that could - 175! And only about 40 out of 300 spinning her with any consistency (2+ more per day). So lets build this contact list and get the word out to people that it is there as a resource for them.

To that I'd add: Email requests should be sent to: Jill Roen, Music Dept Director for KS95 at -JRoen@ks95.com.

In fact, I'm having a little "trouble" getting Over It played on KS95 anymore. "Someone" at the station (who is a fellow McPhan, but who wishes to remain anonymous for the time being...) has told me OFF THE RECORD that "They've tested the song & it didn't take off, so they won't be playing it again anytime soon... UNLESS... something drastic happens & 'they' (the music dept director??) change their minds & agree to start playing it again."

Now, I've been in touch with Ms Roen via email, but haven't gotten an answer yet to my asking why she, or KS95 in general, would decide to stop playing Over It. BUT, to her credit, she did email me back asking for my phone# so that she can call me back directly and... "We can talk in person about Katharine McPhee & Over It", and why it's not getting any airtime on KS95 right now.

My impression is that they didn't get what they thought was enough requests to keep it on the air. So, I'm trying to change that by requesting it 2-3 times a day myself. I sure could use some HELP! in that effort from any other McPhans who would be kind enough to contact either KS95 in general at (651) 989-5795, or - even better - email your song requests directly into that email (JRoen@ks95.com) asking for Over It to PLEASE be played again! Not a "Flame" or anything, just 1 or 2 polite request-emails a day from each of us, might make a big enough "splash" that they'll pay attention & get Over It back on the air.

This is perfect "SoldOnKat" ! This is what we need. Good information from specific markets like this (particularly large markets like yours #16). Thanks for the contact information and the detail on what is happening at the station. Keep us posted as to whatever you find out regarding why they are not spinning it. In looking at the spin report on the site, it looks like they first played the song on Jan 30th but in the last two weeks they have only played it 2 times. So they must have played it 13 times the first week (and thus their test period?). When you find out more info please let us know.

And yes, anyone from that area, please do your part and request OI there.

Just a quick update on some numbers regarding POP and HAC stations. There are still MANY stations in both formats that have yet to spin OI, and not all that many right now that are spinning it regularly. HAC in particular has a lot of top 50 market stations yet to spin her. So make sure you contact those. STAR 101.3 in the Bay Area has proven that she belongs on HAC.

Some numbers (Billboard Monitored Stations):

Total Monitored Stations POP - 130 HAC - 75
Total AIs at top of charts POP - 74 mil HAC - 20 mil

POP Stats:

80/130 stations have played OI at some point
49/130 currently playing it 7+ times per week
14 are on the up swing
7 are on the down swing
19 top 50 market stations have yet to play it


HAC Stats:

18/75 have played OI at some point
10/75 currently playing it 7+ times per week
1 on the up swing
2 on the down swing
30 top 50 market stations have yet to play it
