Gonna have Story #3 up soon... tightened it a bit, although it's still kind of wandering around introducing some new people. I'm having so much fun with this. Consider this yet one more invitation to write your own stuff and find out how much fun it can be. Sorry, I'm a combination of being in write-mode and overcaffeinated and bouncing off walls this morning. There's probably a smiley somewhere that shows exactly how I feel but I don't have time to find it!!

It is a lot of fun to do these once you get yourself involved in it.  The hardest thing is getting one started...after that everything just starts to fall into place (hopefully).  I'm working on something right now that you may or may not see here but...um, I'm having fun with it.  We'll see where it goes.  I'm experimenting with something to test my writing skills.  That's all I'll say.

The K & K tour will return in the near future...or I guess get underway.  No, no, Katharine was heading on stage on opening night at the end.  My God, I can't even remember my own story.  I guess we'll hop on the road with them in the next one I should say.

Just a heads-up that I finished my second fanfic while on vacation--but it still needs a few minor tweaks before submitting to Bill. But I'll get it your way in a day or two, Bill.

The title is 'The McPhee Imagination: "Tell Me, Where is the Shepherd?"' That title should give some food for thought right off the bat (check the little-sung verse of 'Someone To Watch Over Me' for a clue on the quote)--but this will hopefully be an interesting (yet a bit comedic) take on childhood imagination, where it can lead you or help you, and what may be behind it. So far, we haven't explored Kat's childhood mind. For me, what made her tick during that period is even more fascinating.

For Groucho: Looking forward to reading your 'Rainbowland III' this week. I don't think I'll ever go the serialized route--even though this new one I wrote certainly could be. But sometimes things that have a natural gravitation toward something needs to be resisted.

I think I said this somewhere else, but I just figured out as I went along that there were some things in various stories that were confusing, and it would be even moreso if you read them out of order of creation. So I decided to give prospective readers a hint by using numbers. If, for instance, you started with I, it was pretty obvious who the girl in II who was touring with the band was, but maybe not if you'd just decided to read that story first.

Or perhaps not.    Anyway, you know that you've lost your mind when you read Greg's title for #2 and think about some guy named Ashton.  Wait, no, that's not right.  Different story.  It all runs together sometimes.

I'm waiting on the verdict for my second story.  It's been taken under consideration from the powers that be.  I've pleaded my case....we're waiting for the judges to return from chambers patiently to see if it'll see the light of day on KMF.

Ashton Kutcher? I had to think about the reference a second--but I think I got it...even if not really.

It'll probably be a few more days before #2 is finalized, because I'm overloaded with other priorities this week...but it should be here by the end of the week. There shouldn't be any deliberations about content with Bill due to the story being as benign as ice cream. It's really a tad bit in the children's writing realm, which I've hopefully done successfully with a recently completed novel I'm trying to market. My style in that genre is more for young adults with a sharp mind. And most young adults have those...or so I hope.

I already have a third fanfic for here in mind--though it might be much darker. It's good to be so wildly divergent in our approaches to keep interest going. That first one of mine, though, is one of those that's cerebral while being accessible to younger readers too. Such a balance like that is what I always try to achieve. Blending different things together creates something fresher for readers. Though that's how I see it--and it may not translate that way to other people. It's probably better they not notice the mechanics of how we put these things together.

"Ashton Shepard" is a character who hasn't appeared on KMF yet because the story he's in just got finished and is making the rounds of my unofficial editors, of which Joe is one. We do a lot of pitch-and-catch with ideas and he has a sharp eye for trivia that I get wrong. Gary does that plus sometimes swinging me around in totally different writing directions that work better.

Yes, I was referring to a character in Rainbowland #4.  Because I saw the word "Shepherd" in your title and thought, "you spelled that wrong Greg".  Sorry, I just get in these modes.  Because Groucho spelled his character's last name wrong in one spot...or well he spelled it differently than in the rest of the story and I corrected it for him.  That's why it was on the brain.

Bill's busy it sounds like.  If he's got RBL #4, my story and Greg's story on the way.  That's good though.  The more and more stuff the better.

^Thanks for clearing that up. When a reference goes over my head--I have to start looking into what I'm missing.

Yes, the word "Shepherd" is sometimes spelled wrong. Some people write it "Sheperd"--even though that makes for an interesting last name in characters. I'm one who always likes to come up with last names that aren't so common. Of course, most writers do that if they want to create characters that stand alone. You don't even have to use the phonebook either. All you have to do is add two oddball suffixes together--and you can create a fascinating fictional last name...that probably exists somewhere in the world anyway. I can't believe some of the last names out there that are supposedly real.

So far, I'm not confused at all on Groucho's narrative devices. I understand where we are as of Episode II. I like those narrative devices that pull you all different directions anyway. That's why 'Citizen Kane' and 'Pulp Fiction' (among other classics) still hold up. They challenge the viewer with creative placements of what's happening when. When it turns into a jigsaw puzzle, it gives the reader an opportunity to go back and re-read quite often to understand the story better. Fortunately, Groucho has so many other good things happening that it's worth re-reading--even if it was a linear story.

I haven't sent my #2 to Bill yet--but my editing only involves a few little things I have to fix in order for things to make sense. This second one is really a deep psychological examination...so excuse it if it has the stamp of approval from Freud and Jung. Though I think childhood imagination is purified and miles away from the troubled analyses of those two doctors.

Well, if you think how many words started out being in a slightly different from from their modern one, but related--like a shepherd was literally a sheep herder, so it got all crunched up into shep-herd. Anyway, my Mr. Shepard got spelled different possibly because subconsciously I realized he was not a very good shepherd. In fact he was kind of a stinker. I"d probably been reading something in US Weekly about Ashton Kutcher or something. Yeah, I'm gonna keep that subscription that I got when I bought the floppy drive. USW is turning into a Katmagnet these days.

So I had to go look up the lyrics to STWOM, and the singer refers to herself twice as a lost lamb, with those very words. Where is the shepherd for this lost lamb? I'm a little lamb who's lost in the woods. So now I'm really curious. What are you gonna do to little bitty Katharine? God, we take this stuff so seriously. But I guess that's the fun of it. Don't make us wait too long.

OK, I guess I should inform everyone who cares that um, my second story isn't going to show up on here.  So...you'll have to wait for something new from me.  I'm going to return to the Katharine & Kellie Tour.  I got it started tonight before I came on here.  So far, so good.  Kendall Miller returns!  AHHH!  I'm motivated to push my way through this to make up for story #2 not being suitable for our playground here.  So I'm going to try to get it done as quickly as possible.  Well, I'll make sure it's good but...I have a need to get something new on here now.  Can't let Groucho get too far ahead of me in story count.  Sounds like I'm back in college saying that.

Don't worry...she's not literally going to be lost in the woods. This is all about an exploration of her imagination--plus a prominent companion to her that I won't reveal now.  Also, it anticipates things rather than going into scary territory. But because this is a psychological examination of a gifted child, you'll probably have to use a little psychology yourself to get the fullest impact.

I've basically written it in a children's book style--with some very deep currents running underneath for mature minds. That's how I like to tackle the genre of children's writing. And I think sharp kids out there (and most are now) appreciate that.

Anyway, I'm submitting the story to Bill in the morning--so it should be here by Friday probably...depending on how fast Bill gets through it. It's only about a page longer than the last one.

Looking forward to reading your next one, Joe.

And now I have two of yours to read, Groucho--but will read them and give comment soon. If only George Lucas had worked that fast on his space serial...

I'm working on a third fanfic that should be here maybe sometime in December. This one delves into secret organizations and how people out there may be using their services without our knowledge. In this story, it's a top-secret repository of quality songs that's been around since the 1920's without anybody's knowledge except those with inside contacts or through the organization contacting particular people themselves. This one takes place during the middle of Season Five on 'AI'--and the current operator and staff of this secret repository see Kat on the show, contact her about using their facilities, and she complies by becoming a secret member. I won't give anything more than that--but I'll say there's some special facilities there that helps Kat get immersed into the songs she chooses a little better. It's not just a simple repository of original song sheets for good songs.

I'm going to use a slightly-different twist on the narration that basically goes in three parts...along with another surprising ending. So it's a bit of a challenge...but it's fun to write in this genre and try to break the barriers.

Give me some time on completing this--because I plan to make it slightly longer and more detailed. It's also slightly darker maybe, despite the basic plot looking benign. Also, I'm getting quite busy this holiday season, so time writing on something like this will be put on the backburner most of the time.

In the meantime, I'm way behind on reviewing your sequels, Groucho--but I'll get there soon. If only we could charge by the word in here...

You better hurry, I've got another one waiting in the wings. No deep dark secrets going on there, she's just having a baby. But I've got an idea for one that's more in the Twilight Zone mode again... if I can ever figure out how to string it together.

What?  I think you lost me somewhere in there Greg.  I'm sure it'll be worth reading though.  Although I have a feeling it might take me multiple reads from what you said to understand all of it...
