I just checked again...everybody has dropped (or gotten worse I guess) except Daughtry. Kellie #35, Chris #43, Taylor #87, Katharine #111. Still that's a lot better than Katharine being in the 300's. I'm guessing release dates have something to do with these. Since I think we're fairly certain Taylor will (at least initially) sell the most.
Anyway...I learned something. Ayla has a CD out? I just learned that today when I was bumping around Amazon.
As for Katharine not having any appearances scheduled for Dec 5th. That's true but she didn't have anything for Nov 28th either. She just had Leno on the 27th, Today on 30th. And she can still do those with a 12/5 release. She's got Regis on 12/4 and the Billboard Awards that night. So she'll be fine on the 5th as well.
Does anybody know what else was supposed to come out on 11/28? Would Katharine's chances of being #1 have been better on that day? I mean it's more important the CD is good ultimately and if she needs another week, that's the important thing but....it still would have been cool to go #1. As much as I love her...she's going to need the single to catch fire to surpass Taylor out of the gates. And I think Eminem is releasing a new CD on 12/5 too. So...that's pretty tough competition.
OK, just found a site with new releases....11/28: Clipse, Incubus. 12/5: Ciara, Gwen Stefani, Eminem, Taylor Hicks and now Katharine McPhee.
There are others but those are the most notable. You sure we can't do the 28th? Yikes! 12/5 is pretty stacked right now.
Strange, www.katharinemcphee.com is leading me straight to her myspace and not the page that was set up before. I guess the official, revised website will be up soon!
Amazon.com Sales Rank: #112 in Music
That's probably because you are signed up for the free shipping. It says the same thing for mine. So...if you're buying multiple copies for others, for safekeeping, whatever the case may be...just go to your favorite music buying store on December 5th and get one you can listen to immediately and let the rest arrive in the mail whenever they arrive. No way I could sit and wait for it knowing it's at the store. But what I'm doing in pre-ordering the extras and then I'll buy my copy on the 5th at the store. That way I help her pre-sales rank and get mine that day of as well. Seems like a good plan to me.
Just an update on the Amazon Rankings: Kellie #30, Chris #41, Taylor #51, Katharine #115. I see Taylor's going to self-titled route just like Chris is. At least Kellie gave hers a name. Please Katharine! Please, Please, Please NAME YOUR ALBUM! No self-titled please. I hate self-titled. It's lazy.
Oh, and Dec 5th is OK. The important number is the number of sales...not necessarily where she ranks that week. Even though it would be nice to have a "#1 album". And 12/5 works fine. She's got Leno on 11/27, Today on 11/30, Regis 12/4, Billboard 12/4, Early Show 12/11, Kimmel 12/14, Megan Mullally 12/15, Christmas Special 12/22. Plus the Thanksgiving Special on 11/23.
So Dec 5th plunks her right in the middle of all of these appearances. That might be better actually and it does give her another week to work on it. Whatever time she needs is fine with me. Plus, I'm going to guess that gap between 12/4 & 12/11 will be filled. It wouldn't make sense to release on 12/5 and not be anywhere until the following Monday. So I'm going to take a shot that she'll show up on TRL or Letterman or Conan or Ellen sometime that week.
Let's see Leno is in LA...Today/Regis is in NYC. Where are the Billboard Awards being held? Oh, just looked Las Vegas. Woah, another cross-country flight for Katharine. Memories of the JC Jam...ahhh! So...Early Show in NYC. Kimmel/Mullally are LA. Hmm, well. I'm sure she'll add something in that 12/5 to 12/8 window. I guess we'll see.
I almost always buy a copy of a debut CD (of an artist I truly admire) at a local store--and then just keep the Amazon copy (that arrives about a year later ) in the shrinkwrap as sort of a collector's item. I still have a couple of Kat's 'OtR'/'MD' singles in the shrinkwrap as keepsakes. Though giving most of them away to charity is the best thing to do.
It makes you sort of wish that Amazon would come up with some new solution to getting CD's to the buyer ON the release date rather than shipping them on the release date. Of course, they probably would if they'd get them in earlier. Sometimes they do--though I've found it applies more to DVD's. I've received DVD's early from Amazon that were scheduled to be released a week later.
On Kat self-titling her CD: I can't see her doing that. Kat's just too creative and visionary to let that lapse in judgement happen. I agree that self-titled CD's just give an automatic assumption the artist doesn't have much to say. Though there's been plenty of brilliant self-titled albums. But we know Kat has plenty to say and should put a title to reinforce that and fight against the stigmas that plague the buying public's minds.
Even if the title is 'A 12/5 Release is a Pain in the Ba-donk-a-donk'--at least there's a strong message there...
