11/02/2006 1:27 AM Alert

I just checked again...everybody has dropped (or gotten worse I guess) except Daughtry.  Kellie #35, Chris #43, Taylor #87, Katharine #111.  Still that's a lot better than Katharine being in the 300's.  I'm guessing release dates have something to do with these.  Since I think we're fairly certain Taylor will (at least initially) sell the most.

Anyway...I learned something.  Ayla has a CD out?  I just learned that today when I was bumping around Amazon.

As for Katharine not having any appearances scheduled for Dec 5th.  That's true but she didn't have anything for Nov 28th either.  She just had Leno on the 27th, Today on 30th.  And she can still do those with a 12/5 release.  She's got Regis on 12/4 and the Billboard Awards that night.  So she'll be fine on the 5th as well.

Does anybody know what else was supposed to come out on 11/28?  Would Katharine's chances of being #1 have been better on that day?  I mean it's more important the CD is good ultimately and if she needs another week, that's the important thing but....it still would have been cool to go #1.  As much as I love her...she's going to need the single to catch fire to surpass Taylor out of the gates.  And I think Eminem is releasing a new CD on 12/5 too.  So...that's pretty tough competition.

OK, just found a site with new releases....11/28:  Clipse, Incubus.  12/5:  Ciara, Gwen Stefani, Eminem, Taylor Hicks and now Katharine McPhee.

There are others but those are the most notable.  You sure we can't do the 28th?  Yikes!  12/5 is pretty stacked right now.

I wanted her to be the face of Sexy Hair because she represented everything that I had in my head for the brand: youth, beauty, talent, class, a young sophistication, and sexiness." -- Jim Morrison, CEO of Sexy Hair Products.

At this point, I'd say any day between 11/28 and 12/12 is up for grabs. We've entered a point I was afraid would eventually happen: Confusion on the exact release date due to Katharine needing to make an album in less than two months. I understand RCA needing to get some kind of date out there to get people interested. But it was quite obvious they were just guessing and should have put a TBD next to the release date too. I also once insinuated that RCA set up a release date as a psychological ploy for Kat to make a deadline, which is just unfair and puts too much pressure on her. The need to get the buying public focused on a timeframe of release I guess is RCA's benefit of the doubt--even though it's probably both that and a subtle message to Kat to make the holiday deadline.

That's great news, though, that Kat hit #74 today on Amazon. I didn't expect it to get to the Top 100 until next week--but it shows that footage of Kat getting a standing ovation from Whitney (plus Kat sounding as great as ever on 'IHN') reminded people that they'd better get their pre-order in. We can only imagination what number Kat would be at now had that show been broadcast on TV. Somehow I bet some of those pre-orders were famous people who attended the show last Saturday who witnessed the energy and power of a live Kat performance.

If only Kat could have one more Hollywood function before 11/28 where she could sing--it'd probably give her CD another huge boost up to the Top Ten in pre-orders. People seem to need to be continuously fed news of the artist to keep the buzz sustained. But hitting #74 more than a month before release gives plenty of room there to hit a #1 once it's finally released. I truly think Kat will hit either a #1 or at least Top Five on whatever day it's released.

Yes, that 12/5 is probably not the best day--and maybe B&N's projected 12/12 would be better now. I think Eminem or Gwen Stefani are probably guaranteed the #1 slot on 12/5...even though people are probably annoyed with Em when he said he was retiring.

No matter what, even a Top Five debut for Kat is more than great. She'd probably hit #1 later once people realize how great the album is.

It doesn't look like Eminem is releasing on December 5th but Kat is....it was officially announced on her website today. And we know she has support form the label so I say she's fine and more appearances will materialize that week. TRL, The View, tons of radio interviews, etc...

Actually this date sounds more realistic to accommodate the perfectionist that is Katharine. There is still more room and more promotional shows to do. This will give her a bit more room to shoot a video, release a single and to complete the album exactly to her specific needs. She probably won't go on tour until April or May anyway and by then sales can soar, with the tour lifting her into the platinum category hopefully. There is already momentum and its fun to watch and be an active part of.

The December 5th date is definite. I received an email from Amazon today requesting approval for a later delivery date.

Amazon just informed me that my pre-ordered copies of the much-vaunted TBA by KMcPhee will ship on December 11 and probably be received on the 13th. It surely doesn't take them a week to get an order together, so does that say 12/11 as release date? Sorry if this has already been covered, I tend to lose track of stuff that happened more than 48 hours ago. make that 24 some days.

But they dropped the price again. No worries, I'm still covered on the shipping--bought multiple Kats and Bocellis as Christmas presents.

I would say that means the date is pushed back to December 12th for the album and most likely she may debut her first single on the Tonight Show on November 27th.

Amazon told me that mine will be shipped December 5th and delivered December 18th-December 26th. There goes the Christmas gift plan. Guess I will just have to purchase many more copies from the stores. If this keeps happening, I will single-handedly push up the album sales by many.

It will most likely be out the 5th but the shipping just may have to do with what shipment method you chose. It's a great date for her.

I have 2 orders through Amazon, one says it will ship December 5th... the other will ship December 11th. They did the same thing with her single, some were flagged as delayed shipment.

That's probably because you are signed up for the free shipping.  It says the same thing for mine.  So...if you're buying multiple copies for others, for safekeeping, whatever the case may be...just go to your favorite music buying store on December 5th and get one you can listen to immediately and let the rest arrive in the mail whenever they arrive.  No way I could sit and wait for it knowing it's at the store.  But what I'm doing in pre-ordering the extras and then I'll buy my copy on the 5th at the store.  That way I help her pre-sales rank and get mine that day of as well.  Seems like a good plan to me.

Just an update on the Amazon Rankings:  Kellie #30, Chris #41, Taylor #51, Katharine #115.  I see Taylor's going to self-titled route just like Chris is.  At least Kellie gave hers a name.  Please Katharine!  Please, Please, Please NAME YOUR ALBUM!  No self-titled please.  I hate self-titled.  It's lazy.

Oh, and Dec 5th is OK.  The important number is the number of sales...not necessarily where she ranks that week.  Even though it would be nice to have a "#1 album".  And 12/5 works fine.  She's got Leno on 11/27, Today on 11/30, Regis 12/4, Billboard 12/4, Early Show 12/11, Kimmel 12/14, Megan Mullally 12/15, Christmas Special 12/22.  Plus the Thanksgiving Special on 11/23.

So Dec 5th plunks her right in the middle of all of these appearances.  That might be better actually and it does give her another week to work on it.  Whatever time she needs is fine with me.  Plus, I'm going to guess that gap between 12/4 & 12/11 will be filled.  It wouldn't make sense to release on 12/5 and not be anywhere until the following Monday.  So I'm going to take a shot that she'll show up on TRL or Letterman or Conan or Ellen sometime that week.

Let's see Leno is in LA...Today/Regis is in NYC.  Where are the Billboard Awards being held?  Oh, just looked Las Vegas.  Woah, another cross-country flight for Katharine.  Memories of the JC Jam...ahhh!  So...Early Show in NYC.  Kimmel/Mullally are LA.  Hmm, well.  I'm sure she'll add something in that 12/5 to 12/8 window.  I guess we'll see.

I almost always buy a copy of a debut CD (of an artist I truly admire) at a local store--and then just keep the Amazon copy (that arrives about a year later ) in the shrinkwrap as sort of a collector's item. I still have a couple of Kat's 'OtR'/'MD' singles in the shrinkwrap as keepsakes. Though giving most of them away to charity is the best thing to do.

It makes you sort of wish that Amazon would come up with some new solution to getting CD's to the buyer ON the release date rather than shipping them on the release date. Of course, they probably would if they'd get them in earlier. Sometimes they do--though I've found it applies more to DVD's. I've received DVD's early from Amazon that were scheduled to be released a week later.

On Kat self-titling her CD: I can't see her doing that. Kat's just too creative and visionary to let that lapse in judgement happen. I agree that self-titled CD's just give an automatic assumption the artist doesn't have much to say. Though there's been plenty of brilliant self-titled albums. But we know Kat has plenty to say and should put a title to reinforce that and fight against the stigmas that plague the buying public's minds.

Even if the title is 'A 12/5 Release is a Pain in the Ba-donk-a-donk'--at least there's a strong message there...

My late date to receive my Amazon shipment is not the mode of shipment. It is simply International shipping, which I'm sure many of us will encounter. My order is well over the $25 for free shipment, but since it's international, they are charging $7.97 shipping and handling. I think it's well worth it for Katharine's CDs.

11/3 - 4:14 am West Coast Time: Kat is at #371, Kellie at #116. Not sure where people are getting numbers like Kat at #115 as recent as 1:30 am, do the numbers change this much in a few hours in the middle of the night?

Not sure where on Amazon you are looking? As of 1:00 pm PST on 11/3, Kat is STILL at #371 and Kellie is STILL at #116 and Taylor is STILL at #96. And yes, I refreshed my browser.  Surely I should see some different spots each time I go in. You all seem to have her consistently around #130 the last day.  I am looking under Music and I sort by "Bestselling." Am I looking in the wrong place?

^ You should try going to the personal album page.

I don't see anything wrong with a self-titled album. Most artists self-title at one point and usually for the first album.

Chris also has a self-titled album, "Daughtry." I don't think they signify a lack of creativity. It's kind of like a declaration: "Here's Who I Am, etc..." With the right material, self-titled albums can be just as powerful and make as much a statement as an actual "title."
