Can someone provide a Sendspace link? I'd love to save this. Thanks in advance.
I just had to post Jasmine's (nothlithawk's) comments here. Nothing captures Katharine bettern than someone young:
OMG, I don't feel like typing out this whole long thing but DITTO!!!! I was nervous, but as soon as her voice kicked in, I was bewitched. Her eyes, her gestures, her little vocal tricks, the way she worked the stage and the entire audience STANDING STILL most of the time. My god...she is incredible!!! I started clapping at the last note, and my heart soared with joy. I pumped my fists for a good two minutes. I watched it back, and it was even BETTER. Her EMOTION. I can't help but think of her and Nick. I came online and watched it again, and I'm still watching it...over and over and over. As for where it ranks on all time McPhee performances...gosh, is it even possible for there to be a BEST Kat performance?! She does something so different and unique every time she performs one of her great performances...I've never heard her sing this way before, another testament to her incredible versatility. They way she phrased the lyrics, the way she moves into her higher register and her falsetto, and her surprising dips into the lower notes....How can she NOT blow away everything I've heard on Idol all this season and last? "It's in the way she moves..." Seeing the judges clap, hearing the audience captivated, hearing David's accolades, seeing everyone melting over here on here... I am so happy right now. This was one of THOSE moments. P.S. Kat's got a lot of fans in the woodwork.
Another great comment. From mara21075 who I've never heard from before. Come on al you old dried up peeps at KMF! tell us what you really thing, put some heart and soul and a few goofy smileys into it.

What a great post! I had the very same reaction and can't stop thinking about the performance. Kat's back, and in a BIG way!!!! MEOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!
Just watched the YouTube clip. Katharine was way beyond perfection tonight! The camera work on it reminded me of when she sang "Someone to Watch Over Me". She is so incredible to listen to and to watch! David did a brilliant job on the arrangement. America fell in love all over again with it favorite Sweetheart!
Anyone notice how uncomfortable Simon was when David was praising Katharine..."picked the right song"!!! LOL!
Diifs audio files have arrived! 4 different versions. All much better than what we have so far...Just go to the KMF home page and chek out the katpedia insert
well..............good things do come to those who wait and i will always wait, as i have.
never did i think that that Beatle song could be done as masterful as the original and of course Katharine McPhee has done just that. she came on stage tonight with style, grace and class once again, as she always has, not to mention that amazing voice we all fell in love with during Season 5. but we Katharine fans knew she had "it" all along and looks very much to never have lost it.
i am one proud Katharine fan tonight, i was beaming from ear to ear. and for whatever reasons Idol waited so long in asking Katharine to return to their stage, tonight was well worth the wait. this performance will not be topped. thank you Katharine for being who you are and for giving us the most amazing performances when you grace the stage. just going to add this to the many of your amazing performances.
YOU ARE INCREDIBLE!!!!
Wow Diane!!!!!!!!!!!! How are you!!! BTW Blogger comments: Was anyone else blown away by the wonderful trip down memory lane with the most best Idol alumni, Katharine McPhee?! Her performance was amazing. Even though I had never heard of the Lemmon-McCartney song “Something” before Wednesday’s; show, I won’t soon forget such a moving song. I must download this on iTunes now!!!
That blog comment reminds me of the story Paul McCartney always tells about when Frank Sinatra sang "Something" in his later years and always gave songwriting credit to "The Beatles." McCartney's answer to that was always "Pssst, Frank...it's Harrison!" And it certainly isn't Lemmon-McCartney.
Well, I'm just as floored as everybody here how supple Kat's voice was tonight and how her vocal style has gone almost beyond her previous abilities. In my opinion, Kat is at her highest peak of vocal and stylistic ability RIGHT NOW--and having this association with David Foster is almost a dream come true considering the timing. The man knows how to arrange for phenomenal voices. This arrangement utilized everything great about Kat's abilities--including being mostly in the middle ranges...plus using the quasi-patented quiet ending that Kat does like no other out there. That final melismatic low note gave me chills.
Yes, this was the culmination of Kat's talent tonight, folks. With this type of preview, waiting for the Foster-produced album (or record as he put it) until December seems like an eternity. Even so, this shows she's on the right track in her musical vision and makes the wait worth it. There doesn't seem to be any clashing either on doing this type of music based on the assured glances between the two.
I can see small signs tonight , though (right here on this site) that maybe this Celine Dion style may not be the greatest love for every single person in the fanbase. In my mind, Kat just had a torch pass as the next Celine Dion as of this performance...without Celine being around to wrestle away her torch. Hearing what Celine thought of it would certainly be interesting. I have no doubts she'd measure it up to nearly exceeding some of her own performances.
Congratulations, Kat, on lighting up TV tonight, this week and probably for the whole year...or until you appear on TV next. You don't see performances like that on TV much anymore in the way of a brilliant artist fully formed.
I think marriage suited Kat--because she's obviously more than inspired as well as well-rested. Even the family I had over to watch the show tonight loved her dress and pretty much added as many exclamations about the performance next to their comments as there are in here now.
Undoubtedly, Nick was in the audience somewhere knowing that song was for him. For everybody else, it was the validity needed that Kat's ready for much, much more in her career--and it's going to be one heckuva ride once it gets going.
Let me also add that Groucho is the Nostradamus of KMF.
We need satellite dishes to get those live and unedited east coast feeds. Then again, the east coast play-by-plays here (as back in the old "AI" board days) are more exciting than a good Super Bowl game.
Good to see you back here, Diane! It's been a long time--and we've all missed you around here.
In fact, this whole night was Kat fan reunion central. I saw more names here (peeking in earlier without signing in) that I haven't seen above in over a year. If only all of that can be sustained...
Well, after Kat's performance tonight, I think a lot of the old fanbase should be stoked enough to realize that waiting is a virtue. Then again, if some of us can find some scientific way of moving December up to where April is...we'll get back to you.
I understand where some of us are coming from with the Celine Dion, Whitney Houston thing here but... I prefer to give deference to Katharine McPhee in a league all her own It always bugs me on Idol when they provide these songs for contestants to sing then rip them up because they are "no Whitney" or "no Celine"... Of course they're not and why oh WHY doesn't AI take those ladies songs out of the lineup...it's ALWAYS certain disaster to anyone who sings them... including our own worthy Katharine McPhee! Anyway... I digress. My opinion is Katharine has her very own identity and I would love her to be in a place all her own without having to live up to some other artist... And to me she is as good as KATHARINE MCPHEE!! JMO
Amazing performance. Katharine made us proud and happy to see and hear an almost flawless performance of my personal favorite, George Harrison's "Something". I am an unabashed fan of Mr. David Foster whose spot on arrangement brought out the best ever from Katharine's voice.
Katharine is a more confident performer and still maintains a sweet and endearing manner which everyone luvs; you could hear the audience luving her and who could miss the expression and smiles of a very proud David Foster as he accompanied her on the piano. The music of the orchestra was beautiful and balanced, not overpowering her.
Katharine has finally come back to the master, her fairy godfather and the one who knows her well and who'll guide her best on her sophomore album.
Bravo Katharine! We can't wait to hear more from this new collaboration with the legendary David Foster!!!
As always, many thanks to Phee, Diff, Groucho for the vids and to Phee and Kenneth for the super download(Katpedia). You guys are amazing too.
I hate it too. I don't mind people calling her Kat, I just hate "Kat McPhee". If we using her last name you need to say Katharine. Thankfully, Ryan said the whole thing tonight.
I guess I'll share my thoughts and read the rest of what everyone said afterward or we might get 10 posts of me in a row and that's not necessary.
I can't find any fault in anything Katharine did tonight (vocally). I didn't totally love the dress or the earrings or her hair but she still looked beautiful. The most important thing is that she sounded great. I watched it three times in a row and I don't think she missed a note. And the really great part was the two times where she really held on to the note for quite a long time. Something she wasn't always consistent with on Idol probably due to nerves and that your voice gets run through the meat grinder on that show.
So I'm very happy & proud of our girl tonight. And it was great how Ryan let Foster tell the world how "magnficient" Katharine is and that they are working together on a new album. What a great place to let the world know that everything is just fine with Kat even though Clive dropped her a few months ago.
Let's see what else? Maybe I haven't been paying attention that closely but does Ryan usually kiss the former Idols when they come back? I don't remember him doing that with Carrie, Kellie or Kelly last year. Maybe I'd have to go find those videos but...I don't think Kat was ready for that. Ryan almost missed her cheek and got her ear!
I guess my favorite thing about all of this is that Katharine is now working with someone that wants the best for her. A person that truly believes in her. He WANTS to work with/for her. We can talk about where exactly they should go with all of this in the future but for this night...well, Katharine made them all look like good amateurs again.
GREAT POINT! Maybe the world does work in mysterious ways. This was much better than seeing her sing Over It on Idol. I'm sure all the comments we'll be seeing over the next 24 hours will be much more positive for this than they would have been singing OI.
So I guess maybe Idol did Kat a favor by not having her on last year. Now, in my ideal world she would have had NUG or EIG as her singles during the Idol cycle last year and I do think those would have been good songs for her to sing there.
Still...this was perfect. Just reminds everyone what they've been missing the last two years. None of the female contestants can do what Katharine does, particularly with songs like that. My first thought was, "Ramiele, that's how you sing a slow song and not have it fall flat."
And that's the thing. All of the contestants this year have very good voices. All of them. But it's about more than just having a good voice. It's the little nuances that Katharine has in hers that set her apart. And sometimes you don't notice them the first time you hear her sing a song. I know watching her Idol performances back after the show was over that I'd notice little things she would do that you wouldn't hear the first or second time through. I don't know if she does it on purpose or not but it's what makes her special.
Anyway...as Bill C said...Wow, it's nice to see some old names around here again. I guess she just needed to show up on Idol again to get some people excited enough to come back.
One more thing...I've been listening to Diff's MP3's of this and if this is possible, she sounds even better on them. I remember one of the things I wanted to do after Idol was listen to Katharine without seeing her because I wanted to make sure my eyes weren't influencing my ears. And so I collected all the MP3's...this is actually how I found the message boards about Kat. I was on a search for an MP3 of BHATCT because the one I bought from the AI store was broken. And look what happened...I've got 2,600 posts here and more elsewhere. Who knew?
Anyway...I think this was the first step in the new chapter of Katharine McPhee as a singer and I have no idea how well she'll sell with the more adult vibe but I know she'll be a lot more respected by the music world for doing what she does best. I'd much rather be comparing her with the best singers out there now instead of the top pop stars. I don't think she was ever meant to be a pop star even though I totally understood why she wanted to give it a try.
Alright, that's all for now. Good times. Like when Greg & I used to rule this place at this time of night during the months after Idol ended in 2006.
