I think if you look at that list on SOHH, he is very selective and wouldn't just work with anybody and besides we al know Katharine can sing...and sing live mostt importantly so that is a major plus.

As far as Tim and Nate doing the whole CD...who knows...they ahve been the only two names thrownaround inthe press so far...so it's very possible. As a team they are doing amazing things right now and now Kat is rumored to be working with both from credible sources. Also that roster at SOHH are all people Tim is working with as well....

My take on the CD will be a rather diverse, sexy, marketable CD. Something for all her true fans but something for the current market tastes. Remember one of Simon's comments in her audition was that she was very "Current" and I expect her to establish her career with a sound that is just that "Current" and sexy. But she will also stay true to her many fans she already has with some material that really show the incredible range and talent she has. I couldn't wait for Carrie's CD last year and it was better than I could have hoped for. I expect the same reaction to this CD. I don't think I have had more anticipation for a debut CD from any artist in my life. I can't wait to een hear :30 second cliups!

I agree...she is definitely making music to expand her base...and Kat is very current and diverse, she was never pegged on the show in just one genre although she did do a majority of R&B songs which was pointed out at IDF. She'll have a good mix but hopefully there is a monster hit that is extremely catchy...lol

man, i knew i shouldn't have gone into this thread! now i'm really nervous about Kat's album...nervous/excited i guess. what i'm actually more worried about is all the hype... what if they're maximizing the hype to compensate for the 'rushed' album?? okay, i'm being paranoid. we need real info already!

we need real info already!

That we do! Heck, I'd settle for a 20-second song clip at this point. Given how generally starved we are and how in-depth some of our analyses go, we could get a TON of mileage out of those 20 seconds! We could turn it into a symphony analysis and break it down into four movements of 5 seconds each!

That's interesting.  The realization that most of what Katharine did on Idol was R&Bish.  But she did, didn't she.  Let's check who she sang...

Since I Fell For You (Barbra Streisand) (toss that one)

All In Love Is Fair (Stevie Wonder)

Think (Aretha Franklin)

Until You Come Back To Me (Stevie Wonder/Aretha Franklin)

Come Rain Or Come Shine (many, but most notably Ella Fitzgerald)

The Voice Within (Christina Aguilera)

Bringing Out The Elvis (Faith Hill, but a bluesy country song, which she made a point to say)

Who Wants To Live Forever (Queen)

Someone To Watch Over Me (standard)

I Have Nothing (Whitney Houston)

Against All Odds (Phil Collins)

Black Horse And The Cherry Tree (KT Tunstall)

Hound Dog/All Shook Up (Elvis, she could have chosen something slow, but went for the R&B vibe with this choice).

Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis)

I Believe I Can Fly (R Kelly)

SOTR (Judy Garland and many, many others)

I Ain't Got Nothin' But The Blues (Ella Fitzgerald)

She did choose to do Ella songs twice, Aretha twice and a Stevie Wonder song.  Then she picked Whitney Houston, a bluesy Faith Hill song, a bouncy bluesy Elvis song....so yeah if you really think about it.  People thought she was doing a lot of "standards" or "older" songs.  And while that was somewhat true, most of what she did do was R&B flavored stuff.

Linking this to the Timbaland, Nate Hills stuff.  I seriously doubt they will make her sound overly urban.  They are smart guys.  They know what they are doing (look at all the stuff Timbaland is involved with all over the charts).  I'm sure Katharine told them what she wants and then they had their own ideas and they blended that together into something pretty special.  At least that's what we all hope for.

As for the 30-second clips...oh, I want to avoid those.  How strong is my willpower?  I want my first exposure to be the ENTIRE songs.  I did avoid listening to samples of "My Destiny" and "SOTR".  But I wasn't coming on here almost every night then either.  Hmm, internal dilemma.

"I saw Katharine McPhee when there were about 12 contestants left on American Idol. She blew me away. I loved her grace, her style, her poise, her voice and her hair! I wanted her to be the face of Sexy Hair because she represented everything that I had in my head for the brand: youth, beauty, talent, class, a young sophistication, and sexiness." -- Jim Morrison, CEO of Sexy Hair Products.

well, a lot of Kat's song choices were indeed leaning towards the RnB side, but we cannot forget that she still did best with the standard-type songs. perhaps we are going to find out soon how those genres blend together into one unique Katharine McPhee style. oh yeah! and a 20-sec clip would not hurt at all...
