Oh, I just thought of something that is relevant to the last few posts. Now please anybody, don't take this the wrong way as I think Chris Sligh is a wonderful talent and should do well in his post-idol endeavors.... But, I take anything he says with a large dose of salt. He has been labeled difficult, strange, unconventional among a host of other things. At this point in his career he has little room to talk about how the industry operates. He may know a few things from his own personal experiences, but he is in no way an authority on the subject.

His article was entertaining and his conclusions might be the way he sees the truth, but he has a lot to learn both about the industry and how to deal with people.

Sure.  It's kind of silly to have these petty disagreements, because we are all here for the same thing anyway; support Katharine and her journey to stardom.

Please, all of you youngsters don't take offense at this because I'm old and been around the block a few times...but I don't think anybody really knows what they want in a partner when they are still in their 20's. It should be a law that you cannot get married until the age of 30. Nick might know what he wants, but I doubt Kat does at her tender age.
Why does everybody what to rush into marriage?
I think Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed have the right idea. Be happily un-married for over 20 years.....

Maybe never.  Janet Jackson hid her marriage when she was pretty young and hardly anybody knew about it until after they broke up.

In that "new" Atlanta Peach magazine article she talks about her "five year plan" and says that she definitely wants to be a "young mother".  I don't know how those trips around the block has colored your view of the out of wedlock birth of a child, GB,  but I remember during the Keven Covais pregnancy "scare" Katharine said [paraphrase] " Why would I be pregnant I'm not even married."  So I'm pretty sure that when Katharine is pregnant she will be married to the father.    Call it a hunch but I'd be willing to bet that'll be the case.

Yeah, CRB, not everybody has the same life goals.  I understand that the Simmons/Tweed model wouldn't work for everyone, but it sure seems to work for them.  Not that anybody cares, but I feel kind of the same way as they do, as my GF and I have been together for so long that technically we are common-law husband and wife. I agree, it just seems that Katharine is the marrying kind....

I wonder why Kat is not responding to this "rumor" in some way, someone from her movie set clearly believes it and it sounds like it's first hand information.   I would think if it's true they wouldn't want to hide it and if it's not she'd want to set the record straight.  I never understand why these things become big secrets because it just fuels the flame ie. the women who get pregnant and deny it until the bump is so big they have no choice.  Big deal!  Someone's getting married or having a baby, it's not like some freak event that has to be hidden. Anyway...JMO now I'll stop

Well, someone was quoted as saying she had a BIG yellow diamond, and a lot of the pictures from the event with Kara DioGuardi show something like that very plainly. On the wrong hand, perhaps, but maybe lefties wear engagement rings on their right hand? Or maybe she just likes big rings. (Actually, no maybe about that one.)

I just read this rumor in US magazine, not only does it say Kat is engaged it says she has been for SEVEN MONTHS!  I know this is all still a rumor but I wasn't sure if anyone has heard this part of it. WOW, that is a big thing to hide for 7 months!  Man, if this really is just a rumor, whoever told it is really good at it! Its everywhere! Also in the article it says they wanted it to be a secret because Kat's family wants her to focus on her career and not get sidetracked. It also says Nick has worked really hard to build a relationsip with Kat's family. Awwwww  I would post this article but Im not sure where to find it!

I wonder if this "source" is still on Kat's friend list? And, in answer to my own question as to why she wouldn't confirm or deny, I could understand if mom and pop aren't quite on board with it yet

How does something become an "officially confirmed...rumor"?  Just curious. Aren't those two things mutually exclusive?

Besides, these days the old definitions don't really make sense anymore. People live together and get married as an afterthought, have kids whenever, etc. so what does "being engaged" actually mean these days? Damned if I know. We do know that Katharine is basically a very serious girl who seems to think it's important to be married before you have kids, she has publicly avowed her love (there's an old fashioned phrase for you) to the guy she's been with for two plus years, and she says she wants kids before she's too much older. So what do the words matter? She acts engaged to me.

IMO Katharine and Nick have been engaged for quite some time; engagement being a state of mind (or relationship). The formality of a ring is just that, a formality. I tend to believe this as yet unverified rumor more every day, and it's obvious that she is hyper aware of keeping this on the DL in favor of putting her career first right now. I hope she is waiting until recording her next album and until the jury is in on her first movie(s). Once she has established herself in both genres of entertainment, marriage and children will not affect her career to any significant extent. Hats off to Katharine for the timing and to Nick for his patience in consenting to put her career first.
