I've been watching AI for three years, I missed the first two, cuz I wasn't interested that much. But a few people were talking about it, so I figured I'd watch. It's a good show. I even voted for my faves. But this year was something special. I saw Katharine McPhee in the auditions, and was very pleased to see she made it to Hollywood. I didn't miss an episode after that. There was no way I was going to miss Katharine's performance. I'm crazy about her. I paid good money to see her at the tour, but she wasn't there. If not for her, I never would have paid what I did for those tickets.

I can only say that once I heard her voice, it turned my head, I had to know more about her. I started over at the AI boards, only to be disappointed at how people were trashing her, I couldn't understand why. Then I discovered this site. I won't go anywhere else, this is the home base for Kat, as far as I'm concerned. She's the best I've ever seen or heard, I guess that makes me a fanatic?

I have watched AI since the beginning, always voted some, and have definitely had my favorites. This year I knew it was going to be different for me the first time I saw Kat sing. I soon was voting the full time every week. Following her on AI every week, and finding out more about her since then, has gradually developed a very strong emotional connection in me towards her. I will always support and love her and will follow her accomplishments from here on. I will continue to read, listen to, look at, and purchase everything I can about her and attend as many concerts, appearances etc. as I possibly can. Even though I am older, I have never been a dedicated fan of anyone's before and have no reason to again. As far as I am concerned KAT IS IT, and she has got me for life. I guess that puts me in the beyond a real fanatic category. I just hope there will always be a strong active group of Kat fanatics to help each other follow her successful career.

I'll be a very devoted fan. I love the show and watch it every year, but I did miss the first year. But so far Jennifer Hudson and Kat are my favorites and i'll be there for everything they do because I just love their voices and talents. I would read this forum but I spent most of time on the AOL boards for years..but it's not fun over there at all so I'll be writing on here more now. Hope you guys don't mind having a person older than you chatting about Kat, I realized that most everyone on this board and the fox board are a lot younger than I am. I feel like an old lady LOL
All I want for Christmas is a Kat Christmas CD!

I sincerely doubt that! KMF has a sizable number of members in the 40+ age group. I'm 48 myself, and at notime feel 'old' here.

In addition to bcollan's comment, do you know that the majority of KMF members are over 35? We used to have a poll about members' age but not anymore. It was always that the 35+ age group dominating the poll. So, no worry Tina, you'll feel very comfortable here.

Besides, remember Kat likes older men (and women)? So she'll love us more.... haha.

Ok, let's go back to the original question.

Getting way to close to the big five oh for my liking

Actually, that is another reason for being a Kat Phan, it makes me feel like a teenager again. Again? Actually I wasn't even the "fan" type as a teenager, so I guess its for the first time.

Then again, just last night, there was a boy here who is only 12, and he loves Katharine!  He said he recruited all the kids in his 6th grade class to vote for Kat.

Although I was always aware of American Idol and its outcome, this was my first AI season I was able to watch - simply because we don't get it here in Germany. I immediately fell in love with Kat on first sight. So I am a fan of hers - not AI or else.

Regarding my post count -  I am totally lost in work, but I try to read regularly and besides I have an awesome little sister who keeps me up and posts for both - sort of.

Oh, and I'm 40 and feel great that so many people around my age are here.

I definitely hate AI-sites because IMO their main function was to insult Katharine as severe as possible. I do admit, for a while I belived some of these rumors, but then I realized what is going on.

Kat is such a remakable person and a performer that it is even  hard to  handle. Her stage presence is HUGE and Her glowing is absolutely supernatural. When you are old enough you know that something special is going on!

Katidol, you have struck a sensitive chord to what makes us a Kan fan.   I too had never watched American Idol until last year and liked Carrie Underwood.  But, I had never participated in forums, blogs, boards about anything or anyone until now. I searched for info and first discovered videos, photos, etc. at Pheenonemun(superb website). I was so impressed with the site that I actually found myself doing the unthinkable, participating and becoming a Katlinker!

I stumbled on to KatharineFans.com and enjoyed reading all the forums but hesitated about joining it. I was like Kat phan, czar_iya, more, "not a very outspoken person" or so I thought.  Well, I wanted to view the Media Forum here which is only for members and that's when I registered here, 5 days ago! BTW, I like some of the thoughtful posts like yours as well. I thought I would find a lot of silly, immature stuff here. Not at all, well maybe some....

I like to view videos of Kat and one video I found recently was made by you, czar_iya....You are much too shy to tell us you have created a nice tribute phan video, "Miracles" .  Here is the link.

Yes, I'm hoping Kat will be able to continue to bring joy to whatever she does  for as long as she cares, perhaps even if it's only for a few years. I doubt it. She has too much talent to give. And count me as a phan who'll be watching Katharine McPhee for years to come with great interest and support!

I think I am a Real Phanatic! I joined this forum only recently, but voted for Kat all season long. I am very loyal to all of my American Idol favorites. I will continue to support them throughout their careers, just like I have with Kelly, Clay and Carrie. I believe in Katharine's talent and will do what I can to help her stay successful.

Here's a thought from one of those once-or-twice posters someone mentioned earlier...

I'd be somewhere between #1 and #3. I don't forget about my favorites after the season, but I'm not totally obsessed either.

I didn't really watch American Idol (or Canadian Idol, since I live in Canada) much for the first few years. But last year, when a "friend of a friend" made it to the Top 10 on Canadian Idol (Casey LeBlanc), I started watching it, voting for her, etc. Not just because I knew her, but because I liked the way she sang, and how she maintained her composure after relentless attacks from the judges.

I rooted hard for Casey, nearly cried when she was voted off. But after that, although Casey was still my favourite, I kept watching and found myself rooting just as hard for Melissa O'Neil (who ended up winning) after that.

So I figured when AI started up, I might as well watch that. During the auditions, a girl named Katharine McPhee came on. She totally won me over with her voice and her presence. I had a new favorite. I tried not to get too attached to her (especially since I couldn't vote), but I got sucked in. Just like with Casey last year, I went online too look up whatever I could about her. I never posted much, since I'm fairly shy, but rest assured I've always been here on KMF.

I didn't go out and buy 10 copies of her single like a lot of you, though....just one. I don't go overboard with my passion for her, but it's definitely there. Even as another season of CI is on the air, and I've got my favorites there too, I still keep up on everything Kat.

For the record, I'm 23. Some of these posts here have actually made me feel *young* - never thought an Idol board would do that.

Oh my God, bite your tongue, Nancy.  If there somehow was a Kat II that came along, I would have to quit my job to free up some time.  And give up either eating or sleeping.

well, i guess i can officially and categorically put myself in the #3 position as Katharine McPhee Phanatic. i did watch american idol from season 2 to present. i didn't vote nor did i enroll on the american idol boards or any fan board. i just went about my business and each season (with the exception of the first, i missed it) rooted for someone silently at home on my recliner with my diet-pepsi in hand. then season 5 rolled in and oh my, i saw this young, innocent looking young girl walk into her san francisco audition and belt out a song that i hadn't heard a girl her age sing it as she had sung it that night. it was that night and i'm not kidding that i didn't care who else was coming through those doors next, i was already with my vote for the season. yes, i know everyone needs a chance to be heard, but i had already heard my idol winner and her name was Katharine McPhee, sherman oaks, california. so from this point on, my tuesday and wednesday nights were pretty much don't bother me nights, because i had to do two hours of voting on tuesday and watch Ryan tell Katharine "You are safe" on wednesday nights. never in my life did i ever think i would invest so much of my time, energy and money in anyone, but you see, i feel that Katharine had the makings of a star in the making and i was going to see if i could help put her in that dream she had planned out for herself. so week after week, i called and voted and each wednesday i felt good, Katharine, kept moving up that ladder. well, weeks later, finale over for awhile now and look at me, i belong to 3 fansites, i have tickets to the sacramento idol concert in aug., i sent 1 dozen roses on that project for Katharine, i battle the haters when i feel that i need to, but that's usually a no win situation, i have met tons of people from all over the world who all have the same in common with me, Katharine. the list goes on, i continue to say this, i'm in this with Katharine for the longhaul, i hope to buy her first album soon and later on if Katharine wants to be in the movies or television, i'll support her in that too. Oh i think i will mention before i close, this girl has got the most amazing voice i have ever heard in my entire life, just to hear her sing, brings a chill of warmth running through my soul. my wish is for Katharine to get well soon, for she has her entire career ahead of her. there, i have just rambled on and probably not made too much sense, but maybe you all got the jest of it, I am a Katharine McPhee Phanaticaholic. guilty as charged!!

Great Question, and great answers from everyone. Wow. I' m getting emotional just reading. something totally alien to me for a complete stranger. I mean. How crazy would I have felt a year before this AI whirlwind obssessing, and totally loving a complete stranger. Well. Not a stranger since in a way, I DO feel connected to Kat. A deep emotional connection, and understanding.

I have never felt Kat as "arrogant" or a snob. Never. I could even sense her insecurities, and uneasiness during her talks with Ryan through the television screen. And those remarks that were "rude" to some? I thought they were just bouts of pure innocence, and jokes. She's such a transparent person to me. Probably because I have a lot of similar traits as Kat. And I could click to her immediately. Especially during her zany, awkward moments, which made me love her even more.

I will certainly never forget Kat...and I will also never stop supporting her. I try not to let the bashes get to me. But at times, it does hurt, because it's like seeing a loved one...like a sibling getting bullied mercilessly on those forums. I just want to slap them and say...this is a REAL PERSON! But I guess to them, the stereotypes supercedes over compassion.

So what Kind of fan am I?? Ummm....hahahaaa...judging by my deeply novicated state after these feelings are coursing through me..I'd say both a CRAZY one -_^, and I would like to say a friend. Because even if never meet Kat in my lifetime, I'll always know that we connected in a "spiritual" nirvanatic state.

She'll always be my IDOL..forever and always. The ONLY one that I will probably ever hound, and admire as much as now.

Season 6 as of now just doesn't spark. I've already found someone to spend a lifetime checking up on, supporting, and talking about with friends.
