Yeah really.
You lucky dawg, Dennis! I got an e-mail like that last week for Blake's performance. OMG, that's so awesome your number came up and you live close! Dennis you must call us with an update! You have good karma.
YES, Dennis. If you're LUCKY to see Katharine AND David Foster together LIVE you must give us phans a report, OK. Good luck and thnx so very much!!!
I've always thought Paula belonged on "Dancing with the Stars" rather than "AI" based on her resume probably putting "dancer" before "singer"...and long before "pretending to be drunk." Nevertheless, she was able to get by vocally on her dance/pop hits of the 80's--but she was far from a Maria Callas. While it's great she gives supportive comments, I still shake my head when I see her giving professional vocal advice (and telling someone they're flat) when her songs didn't have to utilize those techniques nine times out of ten.
And as far as Simon goes: It's the problem of jetsetting between two continents. Also, everybody getting a rise out of what he says is exactly what he wants. Remember that he's a crafty manipulator and not using cut and dry criticism. Ignoring it will make it go away.
But overall, why worry about the "AI" judges after all this time? The "Triumvirate" hardly matter in the bigger picture of the show now. They're only there because it's a part of the "AI" formula and nothing much more. It's too bad the contestants still take what they say so seriously when it's akin to a few townsfolk in a local talent show who have minimal musical credentials and a provincial view of the world. I agree, though, that Randy obviously has the most credibility to judge--despite his lazy use of musical terms that make no sense.
Anyway, I'm surprised I wasted over 100 words on talking about the judges. The good news here, of course, is Kat returning to the show...finally! I just wonder if Fremantle and 19E actually had a huge glob of melted chocolate to deal with last summer. Does anybody know if they actually received those Kit-Kat bars?
It still feels, though, that she won't be allowed to sing one of her own songs--but rather was brought in to promote "Real Love" as a marketing tool toward getting Randy's album to debut at #1 this week. David Foster may just be there as a convenient way to make the official announcement that he's working with Kat. I somehow can't picture him playing the piano along with "Real Love", however, so any other guess may be right. If it's a new song by Kat, I'd think they'd announce it in advance based on the idea that people would go out and buy it the next day to make it chart.
Hearing Kat sing "Unforgettable" wouldn't seem right either--unless Kat's decided that singing standards is her true calling after all. People who sing standards on "AI" don't always get the best response...though Kat may be the exception.
The ultimate validation would be Nigel coming out on stage with a giant box filled with melted chocolate...and the silent apology will have been made...
By the way, thanks to Nancy for the news. Man, we haven't talked in ages...
Also a shoutout to Dennis for getting in to see the show Wednesday. Since it's back in the old studio that night--the chances of a sign being seen (or maybe an Adriana-inspired "You're fabulous!" scream) would be workable...

P.S. on the Whitney Houston album mentioned above: I think they're still working on it. Or, it could have been halted due to some negative reviews of Whitney's voice while performing live in Europe a while back. For her own sake, I hope she has a successful album again, even though it still feels odd that Kat and Whitney may be competitors on the charts down the road...
If the story was that Katharine and Elliot were makling guest appearances on the show the day after the release of Real Love then you could bet 100% that that is what they would be singing. The fact that it is Katharine and David Foster means you can guarantee 100% it isn't.
So - what do we have left? The worst possible choices:
SOTR! ugh! Please not! That would be the end of her career and proof that she and David and her people are totally going in the wrong direction.
A Beatles song. ugh! Please not! I don't think anyone should cover Beatles songs. I've never heard a cover that was as good as the original. And done by people who weren't around the first time they just sound cabaret. As big a fan of the Beatles that I am, I cannot think of one of their songs that would suit her.
Other possibilities:
Something from her album. I'd love to hear her do BOA but apart from that I think the album is dead. A year too late for that.
Something new. Possible. Seems a bit premature to already have put something together for the new album. An unknown song is a risk unless it is a really powerful song, the kind that only comes along a few times a decade.
Something old. Digging back into the American Song book would be great for some of us but would do nothing for her career.
Something borrowed. A cover? Best possiblity here would be Mary Jane IMO. She is already associated with that song by all of us who have been folowing her career. This would bring the house down at Idol for all those who have not heard her sing it before and would have immediate emotional impact on those who do not know the song.
Something blue. Is Katharine's new direction going to be jazz/blues AC a la Monheit and Nora Jones?
Anway, I for once will be paying attention to Idol post Katharine. A lot of us will be counting on east coast cappers for a play by play in the chats and streming media caps ASAP.
Should be a great night for us all.
I know the song choice is important but since David Foster is involved, I'm not quite as concerned. The man knows what he is doing. What I'm really happy about is the timing of her appearance. It's the first results show on the Top 12, in the newly refurbished studio. No one has a clear cut choice on the Top 12 (unless you're totally for David A.) and so IMO, the TV audience should be huge but not there 100% absorbed in their favorite. That gives Kat a powerful place to stand. A few weeks down the road and everyone will be really there for their favorites. And, she will be the first returning alum to perform this year.....Oops, sorry Blake fans. I guess his performance last week didn't do much for me.
It's great to see KMF all abuzz about this..... And they say that "Disneyland is the Happiest Place on Earth" !!!!! ....guess "they" are not KMF folks!
I certainly hope they mention the KITKAT project that was handled perfectly
Hi Goody! I'm with you on "Real Love"! It's a really "catchy" song and I can
