POST-PERFORMANCE

(crowd goes absolutely crazy for Katharine)

Katharine: Awesome. Thank you. Thanks. Thank you. Thanks.
I think you missed a couple of "aaawwwwss" and "thanks"! That might've been the biggest crowd response Kat got the entire season. The applause started about 10 seconds before the end of the song, and ended up delaying Randy's comments.

He is a re-upload of the Extra clip with Katharine sing CROCS on McMahon's show.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/fzlry0

About 7 seconds of it at 1:15.

Thanks, CRB, for bringing that clip back. I'd actually forgotten a few things from that considering it's been almost a year since we saw it. Actually, Kat's version of 'CROCS' on Ed McMahon's show didn't sound all that bad to me now. Before, I thought it was far from her best. Now, I want to see it in its entirety, which is impossible...unless someone has a vast Ed McMahon video library. Yes, there's someone out there in the world who does...especially in America that has every kind of person.

Seeing Simon's predictions there show how he's worse than we are on predicting winners on the show. How did Kellie get into his Top Three back then? I guess at the time, a lot of people thought she'd win based on her tremendous fanbase that was quite huge at the time.

The clip of Kat in 'Annie Get Your Gun' makes me want to see the whole production she was in now. That's also impossible--considering the archives that store those things aren't accessible to the general public. Hopefully Kat can reprise that role someday on Broadway if there's ever a revival...of the revival.

Who could forget Ray Romano turning into a stalker? He must be one of those lurkers who's looked in here for quite a while...

By the way, I think Week 6 will find a lot of people realizing that it wasn't one of Kat's best weeks. Though I liked her "21st Century" version of Christina's 'The Voice Within.'  A lot of people thought it wasn't arranged in the right key for her, but I want to see it again to gain a fresher perspective a year later...

Thanks to William, and everyone, for bringing Kat's journey on AI back to life for me. We all seemed to have very similar experiences.

There was downs as well as ups, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

I love the week to week reminder.

I 've been following the latest AI season, but it just leaves me cold.

"I saw Katharine McPhee when there were about 12 contestants left on American Idol. She blew me away. I loved her grace, her style, her poise, her voice and her hair! I wanted her to be the face of Sexy Hair because she represented everything that I had in my head for the brand: youth, beauty, talent, class, a young sophistication, and sexiness." -- Jim Morrison, CEO of Sexy Hair Products.

Kat's total gorgeousness really began to emerge here....and this was a totally professional, stellar performance!!

Interesting,I hadn't noticed before; Ryan actually brings up the subject of taping that eventually led to the 'feeling free" remark from Kat!I'm wondering how Ryan was privy to that intimate detail of Kat's wardrobe.

Beautiful caps Joe and Bigshady!!

I didn't know that last picture existed anywhere outside of my Photobucket.
That was the night that turned me into a fan/phan/raving lunatic.
Yeah, come to think of it, it seems like Ryan was always either trying to save her from herself
when she got to rambling in one of those performance night fogs she would get in, or else he
almost seemed to be baiting her into saying something even more ditzy. Oh well, it was all cute.

Well...you must have sent it to me at some point because it was in my folder of Kat pictures when I punched in "Come Rain" or "CROCS" into the search function.

This show may have been the first time that Kat was branded as a "standards singer" too. While she may have found that a detriment later, she understands that she can do these songs well and sang them hundreds of times prior. At the time, I thought she chose the song because she actually connected to it rather than just picking it because it was overly familiar for her and something she could do well. That just shows how things took time in learning who she was and what went on behind the scenes on the show. At least THIS arrangement of 'CROCS' was infinitely better than the one she did on that Ed McMahon 'Star Search' knock-off that she appeared on about five years prior. Seeing the clip of that last year on Youtube--she obviously connected with the arrangers on 'AI' to come up with something better. That doesn't always happen on there...but that arrangement (and stage choreography...that I assume Kat created herself) was starmaking perfect.
Is that old one still available to see? She would have been 17 then?

Shame on both of you and CRB for not consulting your Katpedia! What do you think we did that for???

7 seconds????

We have 4 different complete versions of Katharine doing CROCS on Star Search plus another real heartbreaker called "To Dream Again".

Permalink Here!

And yes, it was 2001, so she would have been 17.
