She was absolutely amazing, BUT the judges tore our girl apart. We have to do some serious power voting since she was first AND got bad comments. C'mon McPhans. Don't let her down!

I think public opinion and the vote count will prove that the judges were totally off base in the almost surreal bashing they set on Kat tonite.

She was awesome, sounded great, and I think that Simon and Randy are drinking from the same flask as Paula this week.

Vote heavy! Kat needs us tonite!

Surreal is the right word, joerock! The whole time they were talking, I was like: "What the hell is this?!" I loved it! Screw the English paper, Kat's getting all the votes I can offer.

I really liked Kat's rendition of the song. No, she's not Whitney. Whitney's a power belter, Kat's not. But Simon's comment about Whitney being a better singer was over the top. Whitney's a different singer, NOT a better singer. He should have just said what Randy said, that the song was too big for her. But maybe I'm taking it too hard...they REALLY ripped Kellie tonight.

Well, all thats left to do is VOTE,VOTE,VOTE!!!!

Vote we must. Don't forget there are two lines for Katharine McPhee tonight.

1-866-IDOLS 01 (1-866-436-5701) Text "Vote" to 5701 on Cingular wireless
or if that doesn't work,
1-866-IDOLS 07 (1-866-436-5707)

Every vote and text message counts.

Well, as of now, according to DialIdol, she's in 4th place. If that holds one the West Coasters vote, she could be in the bottom 3 again. C;mon West Coast...you can do it!!

I'm not worried about her in being in the bottom 3 as long as she isn't sent packing. If she's in the b3 it just means more votes for her the next week. =)

Did not yet see the show. I just got home in time to vote for about 15 minutes. I used both phones and got through 90% of the time on my cell phone and probably 70% on my land line.

I see the judges gave Katharine negative comments. What did they say about the others?

Katharine's performance tonight of "I Have Nothing" was indeed absolutely amazing and stunning. It was phenomenal and had me on the edge of my seat, not unlike any other performance of hers. It is for that reason that I can't believe the judges were so hard on her. I especially can't believe that Simon would contrast her with Whitney Houston. That was completely unfair. The song was perfect for Katharine, and not "too big" by any stretch of the imagination. Her performance of the song was perfect!

They were mostly unhappy but liked Elliott and Chris. I admit, I absolutely LOVE the song Chris did, and i thought he did it well, and I'm an Elliott fan, but he's my #2. I think they were trying to make up for being so nice to her last week. Otherwise, kind of inexplicable. Unless Whitney is just a goddess that you can't even try to touch without getting ripped for it. I dunno, but did anyone else think of a great idea for a CD featuring two people who seem to be able to harmonize together well, have great voices, and just totally blew me away with about 10 seconds of unexpected pure bliss??? Wow. That's something I'd play until it melted in about two weeks.

I am totally psyched by Kat’s performance….she looked stunning…she sang beautifully…with more power and range…she strutted and stomped and showed some fiery flashes that I just loved…wow she really is incredible…

I don’t care what the judges said….and I agree with you Jaded…Kat won’t be going home (ever) and I hope (and frankly expect) she’s in the bottom three so that it generates a surge of support voting next week. I really think that Kat and Elliott picked up the most converted voters tonight.

Elliott was probably the best of the bunch tonight….Taylor was marginal…Paris (sorry Paris lovers) was not bad…but I just can’t warm up to her (besides it would probably ruin any chance I had with Kat – ha, ha)…Kellie was awful again…she’s still sweet, but her limitations are catching up with her….Chris delivered his standard fare and did a good job.

I’m not sure that, with the exception of Elliott and Chris, the arrangements David Foster put together didn’t compromise the quality of some of the performances (especially Taylor, Paris, and Kellie) Foster is a veritable genius…but I don’t think his work was exceptional with the contestants.

Back to Kat….as she was listening to the judges….I was sending her a telepathic (or is ‘tele-pathetic’ in my case?) message telling her to hang on…don’t let them see you crack…(and she didn’t)…they were unduly harsh….and wazup wit Paula tonight….she’s looney…they continue to encourage the contestants to stretch their limits and when they do, they bash them…

Anyway Kat’s still the meow in my heart…she will go on….Paris is going home...Kellie is in sight…Kat can slink back to her forte again and move onto the final 5.

Wow, I just listened to Kat's "I Have Nothing" again on mp3, and it's even better the second time around. I was too distracted by her performance (and dress) to really appeciate the first time. I think I actually like Kat's version better than Whitney. It's really emotional and edgey, full of energy. I wonder how much the harsh comments have to do with going first tonight.

the friggin judges are stoned out of their minds. I don't care what they say Kat was perfect....she is beautiful. She showed some style, some gusto, she showed some personality and strength. I believe I believe I believe....Simon is one big.*%$#@#! so is Randy and Paula...I just wanna slap her silly so she'd wake up.

I am ssooooo upset at the judges I could not even watch the rest of them. I just want to keep voting and voting and voting.....just to prove them wrong.

OK, now I have watched it. Obviously, I need to listen to her performance again, only this time with my eyes closed, to get a real impression of her vocals. From a visual standpoint, I thought she put a lot of emotion into the song, which added to the overall effect, yet that emotion, among other things, took my brain away from strictly listening to her.

I thought Kellie's performance was her worst yet, worse than the one she admittedly butchered last week. I think she is in over her head at this point. She needed to sell this song big-time, and while I heard an occasional note or vocal sound that sounded great, inbetween she was flat and listless.

Along those lines, I thought Taylor probably gave his worst vocal too. He seemed very uncomfortable and almost unsure. He didn't look like he was his usual self.

I thought Paris did ok, but way oversang the song. I found it interesting that Barbara's name never came up (like Whitney's did). Say what you will about her, I think Barbara is the greatest female vocalist of the 20th century.

I did like Chris' song, but thought he got to his usual shouting, which, of course, is completely allowable (only) if it is Chris doing it.

I will have to listen to Elliott again as well. The first time through, it didn't make me want to cry, so I must have missed something.

Yes, the judges talk in circles, contradictions, whatever. They tell the contestants they need to get out of their comfort zones. They need to take risks. Then tonight, Paula tells Katharine she needs to get back into her comfort zone. Tonight was one of the few times when I have really disliked Paula. She was so biased toward the guys, it was pathetic. She cries for Elliott, she makes excuses and yells out that we still love Taylor, and then I don't even remember what she did with Chris (stood up and yelled over Simon's critique?). She was way out of control. Simon was laughing at her.

I do hope when the judges listen to the performances again, based on what everyone has said about Katharine's performance, that they apologize to her tomorrow. Simon's comment that if Katharine cannot sing better than Whitney, she shouldn't sing one of her songs is ridiculous. The judges are always comparing these live performances to the studio versions of the songs. Does he think Whitney, for example, recorded all of her songs in one take?

On the AI board even some Elliott and Paris fans are stopping by to say that Kat was robbed.

It was great! But not a good song choice.  The judges never like anyone doing Whitney, Mariah or Christina anyway.

I was happy for her though. David Foster & Andrea Bocolli seemed to like her a lot.

As with Carrie last year, the judges will wax and wane on Kat's preformances. But talent prevails, and no one has more this year...and the people have the last word...

Well, I just finished two solid hours of power voting and now I've got fingers crossed, toes, legs, eyes, everything crossed for tomorrow night.

I simply cannot imagine Katharine performing that song any better than she did tonight. I really felt her performance, had it taped and watched it three times before even moving on to the other contestants. Katharine sang with such passion, and she had some of the best stage moves yet.

The judges should be in the bottom three tomorrow night, with Simon going home -- at least for a timeout.

well, actually, when Vonzell sang "I Have Nothing" last year, i remembered all the judges liked her performance, i thought it was not bad at all! But when i finally got the chance to watch Kat's performance, my jaw just dropped at how she performed! i was like "OHHHH, MY GOODNESS! she really should win this thing!" that was by far my most favorite performance of her, and there was nothing wrong with the song choice at all. she made the song hers, it was completely not trying hard to copy Whitney with how Whitney sang it! It was awesome, ive never seen any Idol contestant perform like that, it was sooo great! and believe me, ive always always been a fan of Kat, but now im just like so in disbelief that there she could get better and better! whew! im so ecstatic right now..

God Bless her! i hope you guy saved her from the bottom3, as much as it is unlikely, but i really believe she might have convinced other people to vote for her because of her stellar performance!
