It would be stupid not to have Katharine perform on AI. Kellie has performed on it, Chris will most likely perform "Home" on May 22nd, Taylor will perform at the finale, and there's a rumor saying that elliott will perform on May 16th. If Kat doesn't perform this season, I'll be angry!

IFKat doesn't perform on AI this season, it's because Kat and her management wanted it that way. Now I'm not saying that's the way it is, just that I'm sure AI would have been more than happy to have Kat on if they could.

Nope.. I don't think so.  I think it is in her best interest not to appear this year.  Sure, we would like to see her on the show, but I don't think there is much to gain career-wise long term.

I don't know what RCA's plans are for Katharine but if they back this album through several more singles then I don't think the quick fix of Idol is necessary at all. It all comes down to radio, radio, radio. People who show up on Idol and get the big boost, such as Gwen Stefani this year, are getting the radio play to begin with. I do watch Idol every week but the canned "Top40" performances (only mentors perform live)  have become a bit of a joke with bloggers and regular watchers, the way they pretend they are live.

I think those of you who think it was up to Kat and her management are in denial... there is no way any sane artist (especially one who got her start on AI) would turn down an opportunity to perform in front of 30 million people.... seriously, no radio show or little promo gig would reach that audience. Don't kid yourselves, if the offer is there, she will take it... and I hope that she does!!

I don't think you have the first hand knowledge or insider information concerning the overall effect of a former contestant AMIDOL appearance.  While I am semi-retired, I have spent over 30 years in the industry and still keep in touch with some pretty big players.  I think Kat's management team is playing this wisely and not rushing to be on the show again.  Rushing into an appearance may do some short term good as far as record sales are primarily concerned, but could lead to ill long term effects.  Many in the industry still consider former Idol contestants (also winners) to be bottom feeders (justified or not) and will go out of their way not to associate themselves or their services to the former contestants.  The sooner Katharine is known as "Katharine McPhee, the singer" NOT "Former American Idol contestant Katharine McPhee" the better.

I doubt very seriously if Kat is waiting by the phone hoping that AMIDOL will ask her back on the show.  She is a star in her own right now, and doesn't need any table scraps that they might throw her way.

i'll be upset too... but everything happens for a reason, if katharine doesn't sing on AI that's how it should be.. katharine doesn't need from AI to be a star and sell more records, she's already a star and her record is doing great just by herself, we all need to trust her , she'll be a huge superstar someday.. and about the sales of her album on the usa... christina has sold more records in almost every country but usa so, if katharine is doing well on canada, we just need to wait and see what happens with her. (trust me her album is great for the latin radio stations and also mtv latin america)!

I don't see any reason to be upset if Kat isn't on AI. Katharine on her 1st album has shown the world she doesn't need to be known as the runnerup on AI. The album is Gold, the single OI will probably go gold, she's #1 in Asia, she is getting bigtime play in Canada, and as the DJ's are introducing her record by saying "And here is the voice of an Angel, and the body of a Godess, Katharine McPhee with "OVER IT". She is doing very well and AI is the loser if she doesn't appear

It's strange that AI never mentions Katharine. I wonder if there's something going on that we don't know about. Could be about her missing the beginning of the tour or ??? Don't know what it is but they have articles about Bucky and Paris and Kelly and Lisa but none of the stuff we see written about Kat ever gets mentioned on the AI boards. Hmmmm?!?!?!?!?

I'd love to see her perform live on AI, but it's all up in the air. Kat's a star herself right now, appearance on AI, aka 3+ million audience would no doubt give a big boost to her album, but if it's not a solo performance, then I'd rather live with the fact that Kat won't return to the show this year.

Just an opinion, but, it may be better if Katharine doesn't appear at the finale. If she could perform music from her album, it would be a good thing for her, but in the finale she would be covering duets and group numbers and not being the real Katharine McPhee, but the resurrected KM from Idol. The sooner she can distance herself from that image, the better.

I guess the show is obligated to have Taylor Hicks on the finale and with Chris Daughtry's success, he may well be on the finale, too. How can Idol overlook Katharine? She has a hit record and single and is making her rounds in the media! An AI appearance would help boost Kat's record sales!

Nobody has said that AI was overlooking her.  I think it is a deliberate decision on the part of her management team and possibly Kat herself; and I think it is a wise move.  She needs to do things on her own without the "AMIDOL" moniker attached to her.  And as a seperate but related issue, the sooner she is able to get away from 19 records the better off she will be as well.

Okay, throw things, but if she had album sales like Daughtry's that would be a whole different scenario. He's beating the crap out of everyone from last season in that regard. I know, the contest is over, I'm just sayin'... And whether she did or didn't get to perform something from the album would also make a difference as to whether it would make sense to do AI or not. That's something the winner pretty much takes for granted, isn't it? K and T have always been sort of like co-winners in my mind, and I've seen more than one blogger/reviewer either typo or just plain think the same thing, or that she won. I don't know what that makes Daughtry. A lot of last year's Idols make terms like "winner" pretty irrelevant or in need of a new definition.
