More than anything I'm just happy that we finally know? what the 2nd single is going to be. I don't think anyone can say at this point if it's the right decision or not. I've gone back and forth several times on the matter, between NUG, OT, and LS, figuring it was going to be one of the upbeat tracks. Kat said she wanted LS, so that makes me wonder how much influence she has on these decisions. Could just be coincidence. Although she did fight to make the album she wanted to make when she was being presented with material that didn't suit her taste.
Being that this is KMF I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but whatever you think of LS as the next single, please give it your full support.
I have no opinion on if this is the right move or not. I've gone all over the place in what I think should be the next choice but I don't have a problem with Love Story. As long as they went uptempo, it was fine with me. Personally, I think Each Other would have been a horrible choice to follow Over It with.
And I've seen more positive press with Love Story than I ever did with Over It. The simple fact is that there's no consensus among Kat fans on what the right second single should be. So let's set all of that aside and support Love Story just as much if not more than we did Over It. I do think that LS is probably more instantly appealing to people than Over It was. Will it have lasting power? That's my only concern.
The thing that's difficult with this is we've been listening to all of this stuff for months. 99% of people have never heard Love Story. If it's possible try to go back to the first time you heard LS. You probably liked it a lot more then than you may now. I think it's that kind of song. Whereas, I think Over It was the opposite. I like Over It more now than I did originally. But what does that mean? I think it means that it might get radio program directors toes a tappin a little bit and they may be more likely to add it (the stations that didn't add OI).
Another plus is that Katharine performs Love Story very well and she seems to really enjoy it. Compared to Over It where...I don't think she wanted it to be a single in the first place. But she's figured out how to perform it well after a few missteps early on.
I found this in a review of Kat's album on Billboard's website:
"There is, as Katharine requested, a heavy dose of modern pop here -- mainly, a lot of songs that bear a heavy Beyoncé influence, along with traces of Christina, and the results can be quite stylish and alluring, as on the glistening, exuberant opener, "Love Story," which strikes precisely the right blend of retro-'70s soul vibes and sparkling, stylish contemporary rhythms." -- Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
GLISTENING, EXUBERANT, SPARKLING, STYLISH! LOVE STORY FEVER....CATCH IT!
And I remember a few other reviewers really liking Love Story as well. I remember one comparing it to one of Beyonce's hit songs. Now I don't know if LS will be a HIT song but if Over It could get to #21 on the airplay charts....Kat's got a fairly successful song in the bank already. Could LS crack the Top 20? I think that's how we judge. It has to do better than Over It or this was the wrong choice. It doesn't have to be a #1 hit single or anything. That's a tough nut to crack.
Does this mean Home is single #3? Did they tell us the singles way back when we bought on CD's on January 30th?
I expect we'll see Love Story hit the airwaves next week if it follows the Over It pattern. And I would think it'll get a lot more play initially than Over It since these stations are now used to playing Katharine McPhee on a daily basis (at least 100 or so of them are).
I'm sure we'll get a memo from RCA so we can get our requesting fingers ready.
