Ok, so if you worked with Katharine and got to help her decide which singles to release from the album what would you pick? and you can release as many as you want....

This is what I would release out of 5 singles:

1.Over It (I think this is a good choice because it is a very likeable song, and can attract many audiences...it is pretty much the ice breaker for the album)

2.Open Toes (This song shows a different side of the album, and is probably the most commercial song on the album...would give her a big hit and would boost album sales ALOT)

3.Love Story (This song is also very commercial and would boost album sales...and plus it would be released in the Summer and this is a very Summery sounding song.

4.Home (Would show her AI fans that she still hasn't lost her strong powerdul voice, and show the slower half of the album)

5.Not Ur Girl OR Dangerous (Both song are good, I haven't decided which of them I would release as the final song off the album.

I find it so funny how people are so easy to judge people they don't know, but think they have the right to scrutinize others because those "others" are celebrities. From Britney Spears to Katharine McPhee radio hosts and magazines will always make unfair statements and allegations. I am fans of both Britney and Katharine, two totally different artists, but I find that whether you are a icon or a promising newcomer from a hit reality show, the punches and jabs will come and never stop...but I have news for the haters, they won't stop either so you can take your opinions and give them to people that care, because the fans are like, SO over it.

I pretty much agree with ya! Although, #1 is obvious because it was already released! lol I might reverse "Love Story" and "Home" though, but idk!

Kat's Comment to me:

"Lauren,
don't worry about your gift and not getting on time. That is sooo sweet but you didn't have to do that. I really appreciate it. I read your comment and it really touched me. I'm happy you enjoyed your first season of Idol. I mostly thank you for all your support. It means more than anything. I just love that people are enjoying the music. Keep in touch and thanks again. Cute page too!

I agree - I think it's all about timing and with spring/summer arriving - I would vote for OPEN TOES next cuz it's fun.  I also think it has the potential to go to #1, which means selling more records.  Then, as we head into Grammy/Music Award time - I woud vote for HOME because that really shows off her voice. But, I'd also personally love to see NOT UR GIRL somewhere in there because I think that's a great dance song...

My problem with Dangerous is that is has unintentionally silly lyrics, unlike Open Toes, which is obviously meant to be a tongue-in-cheek kind of thing. That presupposes that anyone is listening to the lyrics at all, of course.

The album was released with a sticker on the front mentioning that it contained singles Over It, Love Story, and Home. That gave me the idea that RCA had kind of decided already. As time went by, it was clear that she was going to perform those 3 songs publicly pretty frequently, which added weight to the theory. I've yet to hear anything definitive that indicates anything else. That's a good look at what's on the album, stylistically, and although I prefer Not Ur Girl to Love Story, that would give them the problem of having two videos in a row depicting basically the same theme. The songs are pretty different musically, but they're on the same idea. I like Over it, love Home, and can live with Love Story. Right now that's where my money is.

I've heard that Open Toes has been tested on one to three radio stations. Does anyone know if any of the others have had test spins?

I think Each Other would be a great single.  That song sticks in my head every time I listen to the CD.  I really got hooked from watching her sing it on the AOL Sessions;  the way she really gets into singing the background vocals with the 3 backup singers.  It's awesome.

Sadly, ballads don't do well on the top 40 or AC charts these days, although still Grammy contenders. I think Not Ur Girl would be a good single. This song has a fantastic hook and is a great dance tune for summer clubbing, etc. It has a basic rock beat which would attract cross-over listeners and span the demographic preferences of music listeners and buyers. Neglected is also a good choice and this song in particular showcases the unique timbre of Katharine's voice, plus it would be easy for her to perform live. I love the bluesy feel to Neglected which makes it one of the standouts on the album. Everywhere I go was, indeed, well-produced by a legendary producer and would probably make a popular single down the road. From what I have heard, plans are to release several singles from this album, so after Katharine has established herself as a consistent hitmaker, the fun and frivolous Open Toes could be released.

i'll continue to say what i think should be done...

1. Over It--perfect lead single. A mix of great vocals, a touch of balladry, and some great hooks.

2. Not Ur Girl--Tested on American Idol. Great beat. Tailored for radio. Cool bridge at the end. This HAS to be the 2nd single, in my opinion. It's the safest, yet logical, choice to boost album sales. Plus it's not "over the top" like Open Toes is. I'm not so sure their wisest choice would be to release a risky track, seeing that the album is at #100 or so on the Billboard top 200. I'd go the safer route. Perhaps I'm wrong. But, definately NOT "Love Story". The vocals are too weak. "Not Ur Girl" is more solid as a single all around.

3. Everywhere I Go--The standout track on the album!!! This has top 10 written all over it. Has the best vocals, the best melody, I would place it as 2nd but we need a more upbeat song as 2nd single. This song, in my opinion, will boost album sales the MOST! If her producers concentrate on making this video the best video in the bunch, we could see the album make a HUGE jump up the charts. I just think it's the best song on the album, that's all. It has the best structure.

4. Neglected--Most original song on the album. Set in a minor key, it's haunting....Katharine nails it and with the success of 3 previous singles this one could really do some damage (tho only if the previous 3 do well). Plus, she wrote the lyrics.

5. Open Toes--ONLY after, and i mean ONLY after she's been established as a radio star (top 40+) can she release something so silly. I love it, don't get me wrong, but radio programmers might just laugh this one off and refuse to play it. LA won't play Over It, why would they suddenly play Open Toes? They won't. But, if the previous songs do well enough, there is a chance. Just a thought.

I'm not sure RCA will be sitting around a meeting table rethinking their single strategy this late in the game...though let's hope they ARE that smart. I believe it when people think RCA had the singles strategies all worked out two months ago based on the sticker on the front of the full album. The only person who might intervene would be Kat herself. Maybe they've given her the power to choose which singles she wants based on trends and other events that ebb and flow like the ocean does. Sometimes choosing just the right single can come down to what's going on in the world. Looks at the positive response to 'Ordinary World' alone in Danette's video and how it connects to the troops in Iraq. I have a feeling that song will be played a lot by people facing the tragedies of this war.

It all depends on which market you're going for here. Obviously, Kat wants to tackle the mainstream Top 40 charts for as long as possible. She's already done pretty well with 'Over It' in that arena. Maybe one of the proposed singles could be released to the AC charts just to prove her ability to burn up any chart out there. Frankly, 'OW' would probably be the best choice for the AC charts...unless it's 'Neglected.' For some reason, most people just don't think 'Neglected' would make a good single though. We have to consider which chart any song choice would end up on. On AC, 'Neglected', 'Home', or 'OW' would probably chart highly there.

I'd say two singles should chart on Top 40--and then maybe pick two for the AC charts. Perhaps the next single should tackle Top 40 again, however, so Kat can say she had a (hopefully) #1 there before moving on to tackle the AC chart on the other side of the pond. What that should be is all up in the air for me. I guess 'Open Toes' would be a good choice...as long as Kat had a hot video with it. That desperately needs some visuals with it in order to be understood better I think. That's why the rumor that Kat's creating a dance routine to that for a video might be a good thing. If it's released in May, then she'd catch the early summer crowd who are just about to get out of school or college. In the showbiz world, summer starts around Memorial Day time--even though you hate to think she'll have to wait that long to get another single out.

I still stand by 'Love Story' to some extent. There was a spike in interest to that song when the album first came out...then faded...maybe due to media influence of pushing 'Over It' instead. Some people insinuated that because 'LS' was the first track--it was more a psychological reaction to it being popular. That could be true, though I think there was definitely an interest there in the old school/new school hybrid sound to that song and the rhythm that some either found engaging or annoying. There's no doubt Kat loves to sing it live, which makes a huge difference too.

i think "Open Toes" will be a big summer hit no matter what the critics will say. it has to be released as a single! my actual favorite songs in the album: Neglected (this song gives me chills), Better Off Alone (reminds me of early Mariah), Everywhere I Go (not sure if it's because i always like a Babyface song or this song just hits me big time).

just wondering, is there any way RCA will release the album as a "repackaged" album with additional tracks --- remixes or new ones? maybe they will if it can produce a massive hit single soon. if so, they should include "Me" in there....plus remix of open toes or something.

What would make a huge difference is if next time there was a good video released with the single that could be seen by everyone on MTV or VH1 or other places. I think Over It could have gone higher on the charts if there had been a good video in heavy rotation. In my opinion, Not Ur Girl would make a great single as would Neglected in terms of catchy beat and earworm factors. Anything in which Katharine (and others) do some dancing in the video would be good as well. It's difficult to pick singles from an album that is full of prospective singles. Unfortunately, the ballads don't go far on the top 40 charts these days, which eliminates OW from the list. Each Other would also be a good choice for a single. Apparently, the label intends to release several more singles and they have an ex
