Ok Katharine was in the bottom 3.  But here are some positive things that came out of it.

1. Wake up call to all of America's casual voters who don't vote until later rounds.

2. Face time.  America saw up close how absolutely gorgeous she is, and will be wanting to learn more about her. That means checking out the HD vids in this forum, and everyone can see how good she really is.

3. Maybe a kick in Katharine's butt too.  She has got to let it all hang out and bring her A game this week.  She is a fighter and she will come back stronger.

Yes, I do hope it will serve as a HUGE WAKE-UP CALL to everyone who was extremely disappointed in seeing her in the bottom 3. The audience was even in shock. I only hope the tv viewers who love her but are not voting, or are just casually voting here & there, will step up their game! This is how talent gets knocked off the show! I am still baffled at how to compete with the fan bases that some of the others must undoubtedly have, who are not even as good of vocalists, by a long shot. I'm trying to remember that Fantasia was in the bottom 3 and still won. It just broke my heart to see it happen to Katharine, though. TOTALLY NOT DESERVED, AMERICA!

4. There are 141 people viewing this site now at the same time. This site hasn't had that many concurrent users since I had all the videos and MP3's up. This is a very good sign.

I hate to ask this but:

I would assume teen age girls 13-17 account for the most votes to Idol...do you think there might be a backlash against Kat because she is so dam gorgeous? I am serious about this, what else can explain the crazy vote????

Pat, I don't know. I know a lot of the girls on idolforums.com are 15 or so and vote 1000's of times for her. I am even more surprised because Katharine is a Cali girl. That is the most populous state in the country. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

I really do think the folks who haven't been voting, simply assumed that she was an automatic in. I couldn't believe what happened, and hope it NEVER happens again. I did vote the entire time, and got through easily every time. A lot of people didn't vote because they thought the show was not too good. I wish they had not cut back the show to an hour, it was too soon with ten contestants, and it clearly bothered them all. Bad move on FOX. ABC,CBS, And NBC are prime time for three hours, no reason FOX can't be either.

Krazy about you, Kat!!! You're an Angel on Earth!

That's very true; I was alarmed and bothered by the fact that the show was cut down to only one hour this early on, after they had only eliminated 2 of the Top 12. Some other people have said they felt that the RUSH probably bothered the performers and caused them not to do as well. I still think Katharine was able to do a good bit with her song and was able to show off her vocals in that short time, which only goes further to prove her ability and talent. They should not have cut the show though. WASN'T THERE A MESS UP IN THE VOTIING SYSTEM ONE TIME LAST YEAR? I could be mistaken, but I thought they had an error in the system one time last year, and I've begun to wonder if there was an error tonight! They really should indicate how many votes each person got. I'm already irritated with the producers for a few other things and feel like letting them know it-- like cutting the show back so soon, showcasing "other" people's talent besides the Idols on the very very brief 30 minute results show (I don't watch the show to see Stevie, Barry, and this Shakira girl perform....you know?) and the fact that it seems like they should be honest about America's votes so that we and the contestants know what kind of voting is really going on out there and that they aren't rigging it somehow. I'm thinking I'll get my pen out just about now! Already fed up!

You know, this is what I'm beginning to think. Somehow Katharine's beauty and personality can't be easily appreciated by teenagers. Just go to any Katharine site and you'll see the average fan age is 30 or above. Teenagers and kids mostly like Kellie because she looks like a cute kid. That explains why Katharine's base is not as big as Kellie's. Also, she is just too gorgeous that a lot of women do not feel comfortable enjoying her due to psycological reasons.

Now, the so called mature Kat fans normally will not do crazy things like kids such as power voting for 1000 times or staying in the fourms for the whole day without doing anything. We all need to work and we have families to take care. So the amount of time dedicated to AI is far less than those kids who have nothing to do. And this is a real disadvantage to Katharine.

FYI, looking at other Idol web sties, it actuially looks like most views are over 40?? (Like I am)
I am really convinced apathy is the reason for this weeks low vote. But us Katharine fans need to make ourselves heard next week.

The thing is why us over 30 mostly love this girl because she is in the Jazz Genre... thats probably not very appealing to the younger teens... but I might think this is a definately a wake up call. Im seeing ppl over 30 now swore to do power votes next week.. and I bet they will. (Cant resist the butterflies will still be with me till next week....oh man!)

I agree with all of you. To win this thing she is going to have to appeal to the younger crowd, which means jump out of her mold of the jazz girl. Maybe this week she can steal a few Carrie fans from last year by singing a huge country smash hit.

Really America... I don't get it... Katharine is one of the best, if not the best singers in the competition.

If you guys haven't been voting for Katharine for the full 2 hours... now would be a great time to start. Don't let her get added to the lists of Tamyra Grey, Jennifer Hudson, LaToya London.

I've had my wakeup call.
I usually text message in around 10 votes...now I'm going to call Cingular and change my plan to prepurchase as many text messages as I can. I bet I can text in over 1000 votes in 2 hrs if I try. All I have to do is keep pressing the "resend" key!

True, but it's just sad that we have to do power voting (in the hundreds and thousands) in order to save a real talent which should easily be discovered if people are not blind and deaf.

To me, power voting is cheating and I personally do not agree with it. But now, it leaves me no choice but to follow the crowd because I really love Katharine and don't want her leave. I'm still sad.

Michael, excellent point. I definitely want Katharine to win this thing, but the true test of success will be record sales. No one is going to power buy CD's haha. Hopefully she can get at least a few more weeks of exposure, and maybe even win this thing.

Don't be so quick to laugh...I was on Carrie boards when her album came out in November and heard people talking about buying 20+ CDs.

Wake Up Call is Right...for Kat and her legion of fans. Katharine has all the goods to be in the finale...and WIN!

Hi there -- new to this site....

I nearly threw up last night watching the show.  I agree with alot of the posts (i think she may have an older fan base, i'm in my 30's, she is GORGeous, and has a bit of an older style.  I also agree she is a top 2 on the show, along with Chris D.  Whole package....she should win.  Here's my adds to the conversation...

1.  she's from Cali.  Californians are a laid back bunch.  they're probably casting their votes right about now.

2.  you have this goofballs and cheesy chick magnets (Bucky and Ace) who get the odd vote.  I still can't believe Ayla Brown's talent and beauty didn't outlast Chicken little and Bucky.

Power voting....shame that is allowed.  That said, what's the best way to do it?

Thx....CV_for_KM

Limit to 5 the number of votes per phone number.  That way you have to be selective with your 5.  If you are a family, you better split it up.  Someone on this forum had this idea and I think it is excellent. I apologize that I don't remember who.

I did, Chad, but it's in another thread, not this one. 5 is assuming an average of 5 people in a household that shares different opinions. And this should be allowed per phone number. If you want to vote more, you'll have to get another phone or line.

I'd certainly like a vote limit. Imagine the chaos if we could cast unlimited votes for, say, President??? But I'm afraid Idol wouldn't go for it. I think they use the vote counts to extort more money from the advertisers, as an addition to the show's regular ratings. It's like, we did grate in the Nielsons, and 35M votes came in!!! I'm sure they don't mention the kids accounting for a lion's share of votes by power voting.

Here's another thought on the 5 votes proposal. If everyone who is watching knows that only 5 votes can be made per phone number, those who don't vote because they think "I can't compete with the 15yo girl who votes 1000 times" will be more likely to vote. I think it would be hilarious if Idol actually got MORE votes than they currently do. They would only need 7 million people to vote their limit of 5 times. How many viewers is Idol pulling in now?

Actually they would only need 7 million phones to vote 5 times. Considering there are probably 3 phones per house hold, that means 2.5 million homes voting 5 times with three phones would roughly be about the same amount of votes.
