Let me just say this. That was a wakeup call for the Katharine McPhee fans out there. Do me a favor, Katharine McPhee fans, next week, the theme is country music.

After 9 pm eastern/pacific, 8 pm central/mountain on Fox, please go to to the phones and vote for Katharine McPhee.

Remember, that you will have 2 hours to call. Please vote for Katharine for at the least the 2 hours you are allowed..

I got thru for Katharine for 35 times last night.

Please vote for Katharine as much as you can next week.

Apparently I had cause to be worried. And I am very disheartened tonight. If America can put Katharine in the bottom 3 even once, over Bucky for Gods sake, then I am afraid her fan base is too small, for whatever reason, to challenge the most popular contestants (Chris, Taylor & Kellie). Next week she really has to nail a blockbuster megahit to get back in it.

I agree with Bill.  There is no other choice than to take a huge risk and nail a huge hit.  I am thinking Martina McBride or Faith Hill.

Yes of course all her fans need to vote heavily. This may be a good part of the problem- Kat's fans tend to be the more mature types that think one call or text message is voting. So the problem may be more demographics than number of fans.

Chad, you hit in right on the head.

This is a wakeup call for the Katharine McPhee fans to step to the plate and call next Tuesday night, and vote.

The theme is country music. Something last year's winner Carrie Underwood is very comfortable with.

After 9 pm eastern/pacific, 8 pm central/mountain, please go to the phone or your Cingular wireless phone, and vote the crap for Katharine McPhee. We do not want to see Katharine McPhee in the bottom 3 the rest of the season. I will not be happy until Katharine McPhee wins "American Idol." Remember, you will have at least 2 hours to call and vote. Please spend all 2 hours on voting for Katharine. Thank you.

I'm not sure because she was the last one to survive she is actually the next to lowest vote getter. We do know she was bottom 3 though.

The fans on this site are, as my age poll showed, an older crowd. However, on idolforums.com - that is filled with a totally different age group of mostly 15 year old girls - she is probably the most wanted of all the idols. These girls vote 1000's of times. I'm not sure what the heck is going on, other than the casual voter not worrying about her until later rounds because they thought she was "safe".

I think this will wake everyone up and she won't be in the bottom 3 next week.

Let me take you back two seasons, Season 3, "The Year Of The Divas", the bottom 3 that week after doing the music of Sir Elton John were:
Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson and LaToya London. The three best singers in the group.

And who did they send home?

Jennifer Hudson.

The thing that really bugs me is the voting system. It's just plain wrong. Why do they allow or count power voters who cast more than 1000 votes. A normal person will not vote like that unless one is crazy. If they only allow 5 votes per family or phone number, then it's a pretty good indicaton of how many people are really voting for that contestant.

I agree with you Michael. And the VTFW.com people are others who ruin it by "Voting for the worst". This week I believe it was Kellie. Fox might not think it affects contestants but there are a lot of people out there who like to ruin good things.

i never dislike bucky before (maybe coz i hardly noticed him) but now ...WTF

i can't stand Kat taking the center stage on elimination night speechless! moreso on the bottom 2
thought she was gonna cry! we just wanna hug her! ...i'm glad that she kept her composure but she's so real and her eyes can't lie of what she felt.

.......i'm not really accepting the Bucky is BETTER THIS WEEK reason!
.......and KAT just did an OK JOB ...which happened only last night?!

not sure if a.i. we're really also shocked with the vote turnouts that they had to watch in on playback to see what happened!

i haven't really watch any of the previous seasons of a.i. (except for camile and jasmine elimination from bottom 2)
but this a bit chubby girl with a surprising voice caught my attention and i have been glued to a.i. since.

...I wanna continue watching 'til May 24th. VOTE FOR KAT! Thanks Chad

Chad - you can answer this better than anyone, and I apologize if someone asked this before....But seriously how many other of the AI5 Contestants have websites and such a strong following like Katharine???

Again - I was in utter disbelief when they announced her name. They had her sitting next to Bucky (who apparently has a strong following - they must all be in N.C.) and I was certain they would be announcing his name.....

Now, there are two theories about why our gal was in the bottom three...

1) America thinks she sang off the entire time. FALSE. Fact is, she changed the key. Just because a song doesn't sound exactly like you remember it, doesn't mean that it was sung badly. She is the only person in the competition right now who can even touch a Christina Aguilera song.

2) America thought she sang so well that they figured she was safe and voted for other people who they thought needed help.

BOTTOM LINE
Vote for your favorite only and maybe one other. It has come to a time in the competition where you can no longer focus on keeping people in, but lifting the favorites up.

The more mature group don't like or don't have the time to power vote. When I ask my friends who are watching AI, most of them said they prefer Katharine BUT not too many are voting. Those who vote are in the 1 or 2 counts because that is the way it's supposed to be. If the majority of people who like Katharine are doing this, you need every 1000 people or more to offset a 14-yr old kid who is doing power voting for someone else.

 

And now imagine if Kellie has 1000 teenage fans and each is doing 1000X power voting. How many Katharine fans you need to beat her? And this is the problem with Katharine's vote.

An interesting thing I noticed while staying up to 2am watching dialidol.com totals and feeling my stomach churn. Kat was holding JUST OUT of the bottom3...until the west coast votes started coming in. What's up with that? It seemed that Kat has more fans on the east coast. I know Chad, dialidol.com is not quite unbiased and scientific. Still, it has some validity as an indicator.

Maybe that's the reason why they said every year in the past, American Idol winner was from the South. West coast people, especially California, might not be as crazy into this kind of TV shows I guess.

Thank you to everyone who has expressed their concern about Katharine McPhee. We have another 5 days to regroup and get ready for country music night on "American Idol".

As I indicated last night, to please call on Tuesday night after 9 pm eastern/pacific, 8 pm central/mountain on Fox, at 1-866-IDOLS XX (1-866-436-57XX), or if you have a Cingular wireless phone, text "Vote" to 57XX. Please vote for the at least 2 hours you are allowed for Katharine. Vote as much as you want for Katharine for the at least 2 hours you are allowed. Every vote counts. Let's hope this does not happen to Katharine McPhee again.

Our goal is for Katharine McPhee to win "American Idol".

At the same time, Katharine being in the bottom three last night might have been a good thing...

Now hear me out...

Experiences like this may help pul any ego in check. Reguardless how how many times she may have failed in the past, human nature nearly gaurentees an inflation of the head, especially in one who has come so far. (I probably would be having trouble fitting through doors at this point, despite the fact that I try to stay humble. laughs) Strength and humility can be gained by this. Agreed?

And, every contestant and viewer of the show received a wake up call. Anything can happen. It's up to the contestants to BRING IT (although IMHO, I think our gal has brought it more than any other)

I only wish I had the time and money to sent 1,000 votes.
