I was looking and i found this article.

Though Taylor Hicks' quirky soulfulness made him 2006's #American Idol, runner-up Katharine McPhee's classic good looks and voice and affinity for raditional pop made her a strong contender throughout the season. In fact, she was one of the first semifinalists to make it to the final 12. A native of Sherman Oaks, CA, McPhee began singing at age two. Her mother, Patricia McPhee, is an established singer in her own right, performing and recording as Peisha McPhee. She helped Katharine develop as a vocalist and gave her more formal training than many #American Idol hopefuls receive. Though McPhee sang and acted throughout her childhood and high-school years, she began taking singing more seriously in college, attending Boston Conservatory as a musical theater major. After three semesters, however, she left for Los Angeles to audition for film and television work. McPhee scored roles in the film #Crazy, a musical about Hank Garland, and an MTV series, #You Are Here, which didn't make it to the air.
Kat has even mentioned that her mom did not help her during Idol.

Peisha had a whole lot to do with Katharine's development as a singer.

Your question seems premised on the false assertion that that blurb on Z100 says that Katharine McPhee  was trained by Peisha during her  run on American Idol and that really is not what it says.  It says ,

"She helped Katharine develop as a vocalist and gave her more formal training than many American Idol hopefuls receive."

In fact, Katharine has said that she participated in the singing with Peisha's students when they came over for additional singing in the evenings.  And you can rest assured that she got the best Peisha had to give as far as hands on training as well.   This training could occur any time prior to their becoming an "American Idol hopeful".

Moreover, you can tell just by the way Katharine sings that she is trained.  I seriously doubt too many students who get into Boston Conservatory lack extensive professional training.  Has she continued training her voice in the post-Peisha ( lousy choice of words, I know) era?  Yes, in fact, she mentioned this week in one of her video blogs that she just got back from a voice lesson and she mentioned in another that she has a "voice coach".
