Well, I got her CD today and on the 1st listen to it...."Better Off Alone" really stood out for me. She really brought the soul out of this very soulful ballad. Kat knocked it WAYYYYYYYY out of the park!!!!!
Props to Austin Carroll for writing such an awesome soulful song. I will have to leave a message on his myspace complimenting him for the song.
Give Katharine McPhee a great ballad and she will hit it out of the park time and time again....McPhee's comfort zone is the big ballad and she does wonders with the wrenchingly soulful piano ballad "Better Off Alone" and the showstopper "Ordinary World." She is at her best on the Babyface-written R&B ballad "Everywhere I Go," which could provide the prototype for her future, one that merges pop's current sound and her obvious strengths.
Yep...isn't it just so peculiar that "Do What You Do" is in between the threesome that is "Ordinary World", "Better Off Alone" and "Neglected"? It's such a drastic change of pace. I love it though. Actually I wasn't sure what to make of DWYD at first but then I saw the behind-the-scenes video with Katharine dancing around and just having fun with it and it sold me.
Because it is a little different to be hearing our little sweetheart singing some of the stuff she's singing in that song. I'm fine with it. She's a big girl but...it's like, "Oh really, Katharine?" It's meant to be silly & fun (well and sexy too)...and I love the chorus.
I can't really rank the songs. Just can't do it. They are just all so good. If I have a favorite...today I think I'd lean toward "Home" but...ask me tomorrow and I may say something different.
