I LOVE these songs! I definitely didn't have this reaction when I heard the promosquad clips...I was a bit disappointed but these are AWESOME! They could both be very successful singles. And they better be singles....I'll be really disappointed if these are just "bonus" tracks but the songs we heard on promosquad made the album. These are far better in my opinion. Plus, it seems silly to release tracks now that won't make the album. Right now, she should be making the best impression possible with her best songs. I'm so excited and have been listening to them for on repeat all night. And wow, her voice sounds amazing on I Lost You...it's my fave. And best of all....neither of them are about open toed shoes...woooo!!!!

BTW, I'm, jamming right now to DANGEROUS, thanks. Have you ever noticed the presence of a slight "broken chin" on her previous photos?

Kat has a perfect cleft in her chin that shows up under the right lighting conditions. I have one of those myself...though I've always been annoyed at mine sometimes, because it always shows up under any lighting conditions. Kat has the perfect kind on a beautiful woman.

Yeah, Mattsie, I'll make comment on those stunning new photos pretty soon if they can actually be described in words. But first, the songs that need the usual flurry of words...

Boy, am I glad I read in here an hour before I post (without signing in)--because I noticed the Idolwaves DJ posting here saying he'd be playing Kat's new songs within the hour. Fortunately, I figured out how to download their media player so I could hear them just in time. That way, I wouldn't have to give out questionable favors to people to send them my way in PM as people were doing on IDF. And I don't imagine my local Walmart having the CD in yet...though I haven't checked officially. When I first go into Walmart...it'll be probably my first or second time being in one if you can believe it. I guess I don't shop where the rest of the country shops.

On the songs: 'I Lost You' is my fave of the two. Let me say right off that these songs show Kat at her absolute vocal best and (most importantly) her REAL voice there without any studio enhancements. I have to say the Idolwaves jukebox sound mixing was off so the instrumentation drowned out Kat's voice a little. I expect her voice will be more up front on the CD. Even so, I was wowed by both 'ILY' and 'D' (Dangerous).

'ILY''s thumping backbeat is highly effective and haunting as indicative of a heartbeat. And that line "four walls and no you" is going to resound in a lot of people's heads. We have Kat's first earworm lyrics right there. And the melody sticks with you along with Kat's outstanding voice being very distinct. Also, good to hear a lost love song for a change...because there aren't many songs being written for women now that reflect those feelings in a lyric. James Blunt seems to be covering that market now.

'Dangerous' is also good, though mostly for its danceable groove in the background. That's a classic Nate Hills Hip-Pop beat if there ever was one. Kat's vocals on that are awesome too. The lyrics aren't quite as effective as 'ILY'--but I predict both will chart high if they're intended as singles (which they may not be as some implied).

Ten bucks says Kat will post a bulletin blog tonight or tomorrow saying she didn't know RCA would leak these before she had a chance to surprise us on her official site. That shows a bit of a disconnect between the artist and a record label, but it's not surprising. The pre-buzz to the actual buzz is never a bad thing. I reiterate not posting any links to the songs though. Idolwaves is apparently playing the songs periodically...so catch them there, despite lesser sound.

The pictures on the CD reserve the right to me ruminating on them in their own official thread.

Thanks, Jas, for doing that. Those sound better to me than the ones on Idolwaves did. Though we still can expect her voice to really be up front on the CD as all CD's provide.

Love those opening piano chords in 'ILY.' It's always good to hear Kat sing with a piano in the background...and this song really fits her to a tee. And Kat singing about lost love is a haunting experience. You can hear her really feel the lyrics in her voice there.

'ILY' could very well be a #1 single...with 'Dangerous' probably at least a Top Five or Ten.

By the way, I know there's lots of other songs with the name 'Dangerous.' For some reason, the one from Michael Jackson comes to mind. Hopefully this song will help me erase all memory of MJ's.

I don't know Jasmine, I guess that is no worse than a radio station playing them? I thought about it but didn't do it in the end. Anyone can just *****************************...but, we all know these are going to be everywhere very soon anyway, so it's like shutting the barn door after the horses have fled. I guess in the end there is no stopping it, people who just want to hear the songs will find a way, they are probably on Limewire already.

I don't know!

Noth, we enjoy Kat's music and we're excited to find new ones. We love her and we're all sincere fans here, trying to be nice to one another. But we also aim to get good sales because we care about Kat's music career.

You asked if that is okay? I say, NOT really. Even if they're not downloads, it's a webpage backfiring at us at KMF. You don't want to be the reason why someone didn't buy his/her own copy because he/she could hear it online. As simple as that. I know you have put a lot of work on this, but sorry, I must tell you, I could not have done that idea even if I knew how (and I do know).

I think the main purpose of this release is for promotional purposes to build buzz. They're not looking for huge sales here. They're releasing this to build sales for the actual album not to sell 100,000 copies of this single. I mean, we should all definitely buy it but I think streaming it is a great idea. They want the songs to get out there. Plus, the general opinion I've seen on other boards has been very positive and that's a good thing after seeing the reaction of some to songs like "Open Toes". It's good to get these out there imo. I wouldn't call it damage control but it's defintiely turned some people around who didn't know what to think after hearing the promosquad clips.

The abridged version:  Keep it up there.  It GOOD for people to hear these songs and the whole point of releasing them...to build buzz and sales for the actual album.

And you just told them how to do it. I suggest you edit.

Don't people know that anyway? Ok, I'll edit, now you will have to edit your quote of me too!

So there you have it - one on each side of the fence and me straddling it. Maybe we need to put it to a vote?

The other 3 songs leaked earlier are not officially to be released as they are, whereas, these 2 songs --ILY/D are being released officially, and therefore has sales value in itself (the number of CD's, not the amount of the CD). It's a given that it's a promotional buzz (as you put it, shasha) for the upcoming album, but we know better than to rationalize after we have seen the sales performance of "My Destiny/SOTR", the first official single, when sales were not particularly high as we would have hoped or liked to be. In other words, we still like to get a good performance in sales, no matter what. So, it would be much better to read later on that her pre-album single sales had raked in a significant amount of sales. Whatever I could do to help boost that sales, I'd do it for the sake of Katharine. One thing I'm sure: PPL who will buy this single will also buy the album. Let's keep it in that scenario.

My two cents - Among the Kat Packers I know, hearing these songs now will only accelerate their enthusiasm to purchase multi copys to share as Christmas gifts with their friends that may not already have a full blown case of McPheever.
As far as casual fans that don't spend time on these boards I don't think this "leak" will even become known to them for several days.
Lastly, the single only cost $3, to get the superior quality and convience of a physical CD makes this the music bargin of the year.

I see both sides...though I'm leaning more toward what Liz said...only because CD quality will provide MUCH better sound than we're hearing on your computer. Most people know that I think--or should be told that if they don't possibly know. Then again, I guess the argument could be that in this day and age of instant gratification...once some hear it, they may not want to spring the money for it. That, when rogue media sites may provide digital copies of this now (as Simon mentioned about Limewire) for people to burn later this week.

There really isn't that much to worry about--because the true fans WILL buy this in droves. In this day and age, there's going to always be some minor losses of sales due to media leaks. There isn't an artist alive that can prevent media leaks of their songs now. That doesn't prevent them from making a lot of money off the sales of their CD in music stores or online. I frankly hope that RCA will allow people to download this online legitimately too (through iTunes)--because the sales would be greater that way. Though because 90% of the world seems to be obsessed with Walmart now...

I hope Walmart puts out a lot of well-placed posters and signage about this in the FRONT of their stores. Wouldn't it be great to have a lifesize cardboard cutout of one of those album photos right in the front of all Walmarts around the country? That'd make sales go through the roof on that alone...and then even double after casual fans hear the tracks while spreading the word. I trust Walmart in good advertising, because they seem to go that effort more than other places do. Plus, family-friendly entertainment is part of who they are--and they obviously love Katharine as a prime artist to promote.

Those ads people saw from Walmart stating her album would be out before Christmas may have been because they got some kind of word about a single coming out...but just didn't know the specifics. I figured there had to be some reason behind why only Walmart got so behind on the 1/30 release change. For Walmart, that didn't add up...though their contact with RCA about it must have been 11th hour.

By the way, I wonder if Walmart gives free gifts to people who step foot into their store for the first time?

I guess we just see this single being released for different purposes. I don't think high sales are the intention...but buzz and recognition is. Most likely, this will only be shipped in small numbers. Most physical singles are rarely released and sell in very small quantities, even by very established artists who have huge album sales. As fans, of course we should buy it but I doubt RCA has expectations for these sales. It's a promotional tactic. Idol singles sell in huge numbers because the fans are insane and make it into a competition. But "real" artists would never do that with something like a physical single, especially a Wal-Mart exclusive. It's the actual album sales that are important and the release of this should build those. And it seems to me that Kat is being treated more like a real artist by the label than anyone ever to come off Idol; I guess I like to see her that way too.
