Tommy Mottola's aired comments to & about Kat (transcript from AI last nite):
1st coaching session: "That’s a hard song to pull off (‘Houndog’) because it’s a signature song for Elvis. I was very impressed with Katharine – she is actually so much better a singer than I’ve even heard so far on the show. Vocally, she’s incredible. She has a very fluid style. Her range is incredible. And she did score big with me!"
2nd coaching session: "This is one song (‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’) to listen to the original recording. This is where Elvis really got into the lyric –it’s really important that you emote, right from the top. That doesn’t mean you have to be loud vocally, but you really need to project, really project. The vocals come so easy to her that she forgets what she’s singing about, so I told her to really pay attention to what that lyric is saying to her audience, and then you’ll get them. I think Katharine has a very special voice. She’s got this magical gleam in her eye when you watch her. She can do incredible things with her voice."
WOW! ....three "incredibles" for our Kat from a major producer and recognized force in the music industry!
And when Mottola said, "...she is actually so much better a singer than I’ve even heard so far on the show" --which could mean 'better than she was' or 'better than anyone was' on the show-- I actually had to wonder if my hunch has been right that the celeb coaches for the last several shows have seemed to restrain themselves (maybe with the help of AI's producers?) so they wouldn't appear overly biased toward Kat!
....I didn't replay them, but how did Mottola's comments for Kat compare to his comments for Taylor, Chris & Elliott?
I actually thought he meant that Kat is the best singer EVER to compete on American Idol. And he would be right, of course. He knows talent when he sees it, and Kat is just loaded with raw talent. She's still a little "green" (I like the term "diamond in the rough"), but that's to be expected at her age. I can only imagine how good she'll be when she's Chris' or Taylor's age.
I've seen this before where the the three stooges prmp their favorites. I wish AI wouldn't even have judges. There are not necessary!!!! Katherine is the best of all the contestants this year. She will have a great career with or without AI. When all the producers are saying how great she is, you know they will be after her to produce a record.
She will be a money maker for any producer.
