Did anyone hear Katharine's desperate plea at the end of her second performance? She quietly muttered, "Vote" with a lot of sadness.
That alone motivated me to vote like crazy for two hours. I had two phones in hand, texting when I couldn't get through and dialing during the more unpopular times.
I think Katharine has been under a lot of pressure these past two weeks. After Simon hailed her performance of "Someone to Watch Over Me" (citing it as the best among the contestants), I think she expected to extend her stretch of good fortune with "I Have Nothing". I actually think it was one of her best, most exciting performances, and she obviously expected good things from it. Then Randy, Paula, and Simon all slammed it. Of course, Simon apologized the very next night, saying he was overly harsh and that in actuality, it was a very good performance. But by that time the damage had been done. Paula noted that Katharine's "power notes" were flat (something that I disagree with), and I think she had that in mind when she struggled with "Against All Odds" last week. It was like Katharine was afraid to belt it out like she could, afraid of being again criticized. I also think the conversation she had with Ryan about her wardrobe malfunction didn't help settle her nerves.
On elimination night, she noted that she started to feel the pressure when she sang "Against All Odds". I think thats what happened again tonight. She wants nothing more right now than to be crowned the next American Idol, or at the very least, get as closest to it as she can. I, and I know most of us here, believe she deserves at least that. I actually loved both performances, but they weren't her best, and I think the reason why is because she showed signs of desperation tonight. She slightly oversang her second song, and she possibly did overdo her first. Now I honestly believe, bias aside, that she was better than Chris tonight -- but since he has been labeled the one to beat, he isn't going anywhere. Nor is Taylor, and if the judges comments have anything to do with it, neither will Elliot. Katharine wants this so badly, that she was grasping at straws tonight: trying her best to impress America. In doing so, I don't think her personality shone as brightly as it has in past weeks.
I'm really worried about tomorrow night. Katharine is, in my opinion, the best American Idol contestant...ever. Bold statement, but I believe that. I hate seeing the pressure get to her.
Are you off your rocker. Kat Deserves the bottom 2. You gotta be outside your mind. Kat is an amazing performer. She did a really good job last night. Maybe not her best but better then everyone else except maybe Taylor.
