That highlighted messsage is alittle tacky...I hope Kat can attract the general public with a catchy single and expand her base rather than just rely on the one she built on AI like a lot of the Idols tend to do. But with her direction she seems to want to branch out...that's smart...

I agree, Kat seems to be aiming more for the general public as opposed to us, her AI fan base.  She knows we'll be here for her no matter what, so her focus really should be on outside support.

To those who are interested, here's what Chris wrote on his myspace bulletin:

Date: Oct 8, 2006 3:43 PM
Subject It's been awhile....
Body:

About pre-ordering the album....PLEASE DO IT!!!! It helps me big time. It does NOT hurt first week of sales. Thanks for being so concerned. You guys are amazing.
Thanks and God bless!-Chris

Notice how Chris says in the above quote that pre-ordering helps him ... How does pre-ordering an album help the artist?

thanks for all the info everyone! I haven't been on this site in a while and I just found out that Katharine going to be on Andrea's cd/dvd thingy. Does anyone know where I can find more info about this? I am currently reading Andrea's book and I am completely fascinating and would love to get his cd.

can't wait for Katharine's cd!

Everyone I know is getting Kat's CD for Christmas/Hanukkah whether they want one or not. That will help her with concert sales and next album. So far I have only pre-ordered two. Many more to come. Good thing I am not super wealthy (Bill Gates) or I would single-handedly have her go platinum the first day. LOL

slightly OT but Kellie entered this weeks Hot Country Songs chart at No. 41 with Red High Heels... the news made the billboard.com daily newsletter.

Yeah.....not only does Kat need to send out myspace messages (I have no idea why she isn't...it reaches a lot of people who don't make it to message boards), she needs to do something to rile her fanbase up and it doesn't take much.  All Chris had to say was, "Pre-order my cd you suckers" and they flocked.  I've been saying not to stress over pre-orders at this point but it wouldn't hurt for people to get excited again.

You said it Sassy!  Kat and team need to spread the word over MySpace, stir up a buzz. . . . and it's time we get people excited, I think we need a cheer - "Let's go, Let's do it.... Go Kat Go, Go Kat Go!"  Speaking of cheers, where has our Headcheerleader been?  Shout out to T!

Everything with her follows the same pattern...she disappears for a minute and then comes back in a big way. There's definitely a strategy being thought up for her big debut....Myspace is huge right now though.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see what hyping pre-orders accomplishes. Only diehard fans are going to buy an album because they've been told to, and they would have bought it eventually anyway. It seems to me that Chris thinks he has 'something to prove' after his fourth place finish, and is riling up his fanbase to compete against the other Idols. That tactic may give him a short term victory, but it is ultimately the music itself which will sell the album (along with good marketing).

When Kat releases her first single I'm sure it will create tremendous excitement with the fanbase.
And the strength of that single will drive presales, first day and first week sales among casual fans like no myspace plea could hope to. Of course, if Kat wanted to say Hi to the fans on myspace it couldn't hurt!

I think people need to be more positive, I've heard people saying that her single won't come out until after her CD does and how she'll get no promotion and it goes on and on. It's like CHILL!!  I'm sure Kat is reading all this and understands people's fears but she is working with great people and is not an idiot.

Maybe I didn't phrase things correctly.  Yes, Chris made a lame plea to pre-order, I'm with you on that.  I'm not saying Kat should do that too.  But myspace is a great outlet to communicate with fans who may not browse message boards and may not realize you have a cd coming out.  There's lots of casual fans on myspace and dropping them (and us for that matter) a line every now and then to remind them you exist, should be part of the marketing plan in general.

I agree, it would probably be beneficial for Kat to get in touch with her larger fanbase on myspace. While KMF is a great place for her to communicate with her diehard fans, I'm sure there are multitudes of more casual fans that don't even know we exist. Oh, and I never used the word lame!
