All the big chains report their sales to Soundscan, including Tower, Virgin, Sam Goody, Wal-Mart, as well as the major online retailers such as CDNow, and Amazon.com Additionally, many of the good sized independent record stores also report.

I'm glad this subject was consolidated into one thread...even though I think we had a fascinating discussion going there about the musical knowledge of employees at Best Buy.

After reading about buying the CD here, I went into the KMF store for the first time. I don't know how much Chad gets back from the sales of each CD through here--but I think I heard that it's usually at least 50 cents per sale. Maybe that's a more generous (or undergenerous) guess. I've seen this procedure on other boards, though, and it can all add up to a fairly substantial total that would help in the maintenance of running this site. So going through the site to buy it through Amazon is just as easy as going right to the Amazon site itself.

I notice they even have the same kind of Amazon page there...'other recommendations'  (even my wish list) and all. I had to when they say that I'd also enjoy Nick Lachey's latest album in addition to Katharine's. That's just Amazon's automated system gone wacko, of course--considering Kat's album (or even single) doesn't fall under the Nick Lachey sound. And let's hope it stays that way. Time to contact Amazon and make sure the other recommendation pages work a little better...considering I'm always getting bizarre recommendations for other albums that don't even come close to the style of other CD's I've purchased.

Let us know when you get the chance, Chad, how much you get back from Amazon. Once people know--it'll probably increase people purchasing the album through KMF.

I've heard a couple of times now that if you preorder Kat's CD it may not count towards her first week's sales numbers. Does anyone know for sure what the truth is on this? I'd hate to preorder and then find out that it didn't help with her first week's numbers. If that's the case I'd rather just wait and buy it the day that it's released.

Thanks for the info, though I have zero interest in Fantasia's music.. there's certainly a lot of Ai related cd's being released in November! Kat's is the only one I'll be buying, and in mass quantites, lol.

Gee, we should just add Justin Guarini into the mix (and William Hung for good measure) on 11/28--and we'd have a very easy no-contest holiday season sale figure right there. Then again, the fact that William Hung could probably nestle up to Kat's album on the charts makes you want to leave the country.

Thanks for the news on that. I'm not sure Fantasia is going to continue being a successful artist--though she deserves to be one. Her past material has been fairly blah though, so she's going to need some good songs for once. Hopefully this album will do it for her. I don't think that biopic she did on Lifetime really helped her career all that much either.

By the way, Best Buy didn't count on Billboard for Kat's single last June. That's why I ended up going to Target to face the wrath of the vastly uninformed music section employees. I agree with Don (in that Best Buy thread) that BB is more likely to have knowledgeable people working their music section. But that non-counting on Billboard was only for the single. It may be different for the album...despite seeing evidence posted by people contrary to that.

Could anybody here gladly explain why Best Buy isn't included in the Billboard scans? Here BB is one of the leading places people go to buy all media...and Billboard can't bother to count sales from there. That makes no sense to me.

KMF gets a percentage of the sale through Amazon.  The percentage changes based on the amount of sales.  KMF can't endorse other stores like Best Buy and Barnes & Noble because it violates the affiliate agreement with Amazon.  We aren't saying you can't buy from those other stores, but we would like you to purchase from Amazon if possible.

According to her fans on the AI board, Fantasia is releasing her new CD on Dec 5 the same day as Taylor.

Does anyone know if her album will be on iTunes? That's the only place I can get it without being heavily taxed for shipping from the US, because I doubt that Amazon.co.uk will have it right away.

I'm quite certain it would. As far as I know, BMG has  a deal through iTunes, so pretty much every Idol-affiliated album is available there. Kat's should be no exception.

What I'd like to see is for Apple to pick Kat to share her playlist with us all!

Since Kat's on Bocelli's CD portion of his DVD--I hope it'll be sold through the KMF store.  Though I've actually never seen it done that way on other fansites when it's just a guest appearance on a CD. Perhaps Amazon can't do it that way because of automated titles and so on. While a 'Andrea & Katharine' title would be nice someday--so far, Andrea's the top billing on his own album titles.

I just went on Amazon's page with Kat's 'TBD'--and clicked on their 'Update Product Info?' box to see what we can actually do with that. According to them, we can change the title, CD format, etc., if any of us wanted to do it. I think that's a bad idea and just turns Amazon into a public domain site that'll mean more people placing false information there just to create trouble if they wanted. Maybe Amazon looks into backing up the information before they put it on there...though I somehow doubt it.

It makes you wonder if any of us could slip one of our fantasy album titles in there without Amazon even noticing...

I've already told my sister that she will e getting a copy of Kat's album, whether for Christmas or just as a gift. I told her everyone will have a copy of Kat's CD, and asked if she would take me to go buy about 5 or 6 copies the first day.

Subject It's been awhile....
Body: So...where do I start? Wow, it's been awhile since I've posted, so that means I have more to talk about. We're still trying to nail down what the single will be, but as soon as it's determined, it'll be on the radio days after. I got to see my family for 6 days and that was awesome. Now I'm back in LA finishing the album. Some of the songs are complete and I have to say when I heard them I got a little choked up. Not to blow my own horn, but they're absolutely amazing. Without giving anything away, because I'd hate to get anyones hopes up and fail to deliver, some really amazing things will be happening for my career in the next few months. When it's final you'll know all the details, but not til then. As you all may know, I was at the CITY OF HOPE event the other night, and Clive Davis approached me with a big hug and told me he was blown away by what he's heard so far....I don't know if you know this, but that man is very hard to please when it comes to music, so It felt rewarding to hear that about my songs. Friday night, I was invited to Precilla Presleys house to perform a small acoustic set. It was amazing!! It was a fundraiser for THE DREAM FOUNDATION. It's kinda like Make A Wish, but for young adults and older.

About the band....well, they're busy rehearsing the material getting ready for the upcoming promotional stuff. We've already done the photo shoot for the album and web site. That was really cool. I can't let out any info on who made the band right now, but I will say that these guys are awesome. Now that's all I'll say about that. You'll know who they are soon enough.

About Daughtryofficial.com.....the label is still woking very hard to get it right, so when it's right, it'll be up and running with all the updates.

About pre-ordering the album....PLEASE DO IT!!!! It helps me big time. It does NOT hurt first week of sales. Thanks for being so concerned. You guys are amazing.

As far as the NYC performance on NOV. 21st....not quite 100% confirmed yet, but still a huge possibility. I'll keep ya posted on that.

I will be performing the National Anthem on Mon. Oct. 16th at the Arizona Cardinals game in Pheonix. I'm not sure if that's televised.

That highlighted messsage is alittle tacky...I hope Kat can attract the general public with a catchy single and expand her base rather than just rely on the one she built on AI like a lot of the Idols tend to do. But with her direction she seems to want to branch out...that's smart...
