Guys and gals, the main thing that concerns me after what happened last night was that this could really affect Kat's confidence going forward.  Think about it, she just gave the performance of her life, and was feeling so good and then was totally unexpectedly sideswapped with some of the WORST criticism I have ever heard from the three stooges.  I mean did you guys see her starting to cry during Simon's critique.  It made me so mad and I just wanted to give her a hug and tell her how well she did.  There was just no let up and they gave her absolutely NO positive feedback after one of the best AI performances ever in my book.  Is there anything we can do over the next week to hopefully try to build her back up so she can go back out with the self confidence she needs to perform at her best?  I refuse to even let myself think she could go home tonight so she is going to have to bounce back from this and put it back together for next week.  Any ideas?

Hand her a mirror!

Good one! Although given Kat's admitted personal insecurities I not even sure that would help. There probably is not much we can do other than pray for her and hope her family and friends give her lots of love and encouragement this week. I just felt the judges were really unfair to her last night and I was thinking back to her stating that her fans believing in her had helped her to believe in herself and wondering if there might be some gesture on our part that would help her out.

I think a lot depends how well the voting goes. If all goes to plan, she can stick two fingers up at Curly, Larry and Mo.

Doing well in the vote will do all the spirit lifting that's required.

Fingers (and all me other bits) crossed for her.

O.K. ...while my first suggestion should probably do it....I'll add some other comments....first of all, she’s not going home tonight….she may be bottom three…but that will only help generate additional voting for her next week…

Secondly, I don’t think she’ll be as shaken as you might think….she’s been both criticized and praised…and her mother is a seasoned enough performer to help her through the unfair criticism….and Kat will no doubt be aware of the backlash from fans and the general public that clearly don’t agree with the comments…and I believe even her fellow contestants will validate that her performance was great and certainly did not warrant the degree of criticism she received.

Finally, I truly believe, there may be method to the judges madness…Simon’s heaping praise last week was well deserved but might have hurt Kat as much as it helped her….it could turn potential fans away from supporting her if they feel she ‘so far ahead of everyone else..’ and doesn’t need the votes….also last week both Paula and Randy jumped all over Simon when he was being so effusive with his praise….maybe they know the counter-productive effect such huge praise can have on the voters (especially given her ‘too perfect’ image) and they collectively decided to ‘help’ Kat this week by criticizing her…because based on her performance, there is no way Kat deserved that level of criticism….smells like some posturing and politics to me, that may work to Kat’s advantage….

I still think handing her the mirror will work though….

Just be sure to keep sending her encouraging words. I think at the time being, that is what keeps her going the most. If you cant send her a letter yourself..send it to me..I'll get it to her. :-)

You can call me Laurie..or L..or whatever it is that you would like to call me. These days, I answer to just about anything. :smiles:

Actually, I totally agree with Idoleyes... though trying to read Simon's mind is dangerous, he may have been out to help offset his over-the-top (although deserved) praise of Kat last week. The general mass of people may have been offended by him suggesting that Kat is so far ahead of the field.

I also agree that her performance last night was one of the more memorable AI performances! She was outstanding!!! I'm sure she (and her mom) know that to be a top star means always having to deal with the criticism that is going to be there. They will also know that we (her loyal fans) will always love her and be pulling for her to be a great success!!! Don't tell anyone... but I would pay a fortune for the CD of Kat and AB singing "The Prayer". Their 10 second duet made my whole day!!!

well, i'll be really glad if that's the reason for the judges to give harsh comments to Kat...hope you're correct...

Oh good lord, I got so excited about the possibility of a KM/AB CD in the future that I e-mailed her mom. How's that for presumptuous. My only defense is that I couldn't help myself.

Anybody brave enough to jump into an impromptu duet with Andrea Bocelli isn't going to wilt under pressure because Simon gets nasty. Whatta gal.

That was quite impressive on her part. And David Foster I believe said that "Katharine is going to have a great..great career ahead of her". Something to that effect.

I forgot about that Groucho....I was so impressed when she just jumped into an opera song.

Very early this morning, I sent a comforting and encouraging email to Peisha. I did get a reply but only a short sentence. So I'm not sure how they feel today. We may know more from tonight's show. And tonight's result will affect her confidence. After today, I think we need to express more love to her. She obviously was hurt by the unjust comments last night and it takes time to regain her confidence.

Katharine and the McPhee family may need a little time and space to digest everything that happened last night on "American Idol." However, I'm sure she'll eventually read our complimentary words of support and encouragement. Prayers also help. Listening to the classic James Taylor song "You've Got A Friend" always cheers me up when I'm occasionally feeling sad or discouraged.

Hopefully Kat has access to this website....that should encourage her to ignore the judges and producers schemes... And as groucho notes, our girl, who can confidently sing with Bocelli, can roll with this punch... She will prevail.
