They are obviously pushing for a male winner this year. What the heck was Paula crying for?  Does she ever like a female? Let's crush Fox's wishes by voting for the entire 2 hours and making Katharine the winner.

The thing that kills me about their comments is "Don't try to be like the original because you can't".  Well wasn't every song sung by a contestant originally sung by someone who the contestant would be compared to.  PUUULLLLEEEEAAASSSSEEE.

It seems Paula is rarely completely coherent, but she was way over the top tonight. I thought it was funny that Simon was laughing at her. She made herself look ridiculous. Elliot was good, but nothing to freak out that bad over. Haha.

I know everyone is POed right now, I am too-we're not used to Kat being criticized by the judges.Yes, the judges were harsh, they were harsh with Taylor and Kellie too. But Randy and Paula were at least trying to be constructive. Randy said the song was too big for Kat, and if he means that Kat didn't sing it as "big" as Whitney, well OK- Kats not a power belter like Whitney, so, no, she can't sing it as big. And Paula said that Kat strayed from her strength, which is her sweet and pure mids which get lost while belting out a big song. That's something that some of us were discussing in another thread earlier today.

It's mainly Simon that got me POed. Instead of constructive criticism, he blurts out that Kat isn't as good as Whitney, and she shouldn't have picked a Whitney song if she's not as good. I have problems with that on many levels. Firstly, it was unfair of Simon to say Kats not as good as Whitney: they're different singers with different strengths. If he thought it was the wrong song for her, then JUST SAY THAT. Secondly, if you compare any of the performances, EVER on AI with the original hits, I'm sure you'll find very few of them that compare in ANY WAY with the original. I think if you can do a good cover of a hit song, that should be OK. Just judge each performanace on it's own merit.

I always wondered why the judges are still around at this stage of the competition...

If the people decide who wins, why are they sitting there acting like Moe, Larry and Curly every week? Hey Moe!!!

Doesnt matter though, Katharine will have a great career whether she wins this competition or not.

Thats for sure...

I gotta say it again--somebody put Katharine and Andrea Bocelli on a CD and I guarantee you I will have it worn out in two weeks. Wasn't that a sweet little shocker? Wow. I suppose if Simon could have, he'd have called her presumptuous for actually doing a duet in Italian no less with Bocelli. So forget Simon. After she does a CD of all her Idol songs, I think she should do one with A.B. Wouldn't that just be a total...oh damn, words just fail me. And i'm a writer. That doesn't happen very often.

Since we're all disgusted as heck and venting-- they beat Katharine to death for taking on Whitney, but I sure didn't notice them whipping Paris for taking on Barbra Streisand. And told her she could sing anything? That sounded nothing like Streisand to me. They took an outstanding performance by a lovely girl (Katharine) and ripped it - and her - to shreds. The judges are always telling them to take risks and get out of their comfort zones; so somebody tries it, and gets beat to death for it. It was obvious Katharine had a really confused look on her face and was in shock at the judges' comments, as soon as Randy started talking. The audience didn't like the poor comments either. The audience actually clapped a couple times during her performance! Go home, judges. I'm sure Katharine's mother knows as much about music as Randy and Simon do; listen to her performing on her CD "Out of the Blue" and you'll see what I mean. I'm sure she would have already told Katharine constructively if she thought that performance was going to have serious problems, but it most certainly did not.

Andrea Bocelli and Katharine sounded great tonight, on that I agree. In fact, I was making the exact same comment about how they should perform together on an album when it was on earlier. I completely disagreed with all three judge's comments on her performance tonight, though I found Simon's the most objectionable. Katharine is obviosly not going to sound like the original, because again, she is a different singer. Despite this, her version of the song was a strong one in my opinion. It had plenty of range, at some points reminding me of the original version. When she sang the first line, I knew the song was for her.

I just hope the judges comments don't crush her spririt for next week so that she picks a safe and boring song.

She's got enough confidence to get past it. She's not going to always get the reviews she wants once she's out in mainstream showbiz trying to please the whole world. Well, entertain it anyway. It just looked so much like the judges were trying to say athe exact opposite of what they did last week.

And what was that about a "wardrobe malfunction"? I rewatched my tape and didn't faint either then or the first time around. What gives?

Nothing major, she lost a button on her dress and showed more leg than she wanted to.

wow. just wow.

i was completely taken aback by kats performance. as soon as she was done i told my mom that without a doubt, that would be the best performance tongiht.

and then the judges spoke.

i honestly cant believe the comments they made.

i complained after every performer that they gave good comments too. there was only 1 performer that came even close to kat tonight, and that was chris. but once again, he dropped into rock mode halfway through the song.

in no way shape or form was paris on the same level as kat tongiht, yet she gets praised.

i absolutely despise elliot. and while his performance tongiht wasnt bad. it certainly wasnt worth crying over !

i still belive it will come down to kat and chris.

Kat rocked tonight. The judges were tainted by some higher agenda. She will prevail and win it all...

well, i haven't watch the latest episode of AI yet, but i'm quite upset with the judges' comments for Katharine after reading all of your posts...the judges shouldn't bashed the contestants since they sing the song in a different and unique style...really upset about the harsh comments from the judges for Kat...

can't wait to see Kat's performance next week!

Forget about the judges. They dont vote, but the viewers do.

Katharine is gonna be in the top group tonight. I'm positive.

To be great is to be misunderstood.

Here is my point.

In the five years that "American Idol" has been on the air, there has been only 1 male winner. Season 2, Ruben Studdard.

The rest of the winners, have all been women.

Season 1-Kelly Clarkson
Season 3-Fantasia
Season 4-Carrie Underwood

And if America gets it right on May 24th, America will have a 3rd straight female Idol winner, and her name is Katharine McPhee.

We wait for 2 hours and 20 minutes, and hope for the best.
