well, actually, when Vonzell sang "I Have Nothing" last year, i remembered all the judges liked her performance, i thought it was not bad at all!
It's obvious that the AI producers have something up their sleeve by having the judges give such blatantly harsh criticism of Katharine's performance, regardless of how stellar it was.  Now here's the question.  Is this meant to decrease Katharine's popularity . . . or increase it through backlash?  The reason I wonder is because I've noticed quite a few new fans coming out of the woodwork to claim Katharine as their favorite this week -- because of the judges' overly harsh criticism.

You could be right....maybe Simon thought his overt praise of Kat last week might actually have hurt her by reinforcing the 'too perfect' tag...I love Kat, but I can be impartial too...I listened to the mp3 again (so I wouldn't be distracted by the dress?!!) and watched the video again (so I could be distracted by the dress!!) and she was amazing, with only a few minor vocal flaws and certainly no more than any of the others...so who knows what's going on in the judges minds (except Paula - she's looney)...it just seemed to me that they had a script prepared and jumped on her right out of the gate....whatever...I think she won over some fans and is closing in on Kellie, once Paris leaves tonight.

It was a very good performance, not her best, but still very good. I can feel that she sang her heart out. It was very watchable. She definitely didn't deserve such harsh comments from the judges. Randy shouldn't compare her to Whitney the diva, Puala was basically talking crap, and Simon was ridiculous. He was either trying to send her home or trying to boost more votes for her. I don't get him. Kat wasn't trying to be anyone, she was just being herself.

Katharine wiped her tears... but she is a strong person. She kept smiling to the audience.

Not a great song choice (I prefer she pick Paris' song choice "Memory") but overall it was a very nice performance.

By the way, I was truly moved when the camera showed McDadee was in tears watching his daughter performing. It was a very very sweet moment... suddenly made me thought of my dad, and I was almost in tears too. Haha.

To be great is to be misunderstood.

yea, just like everyone else thinking, i thought it was a good performance, she didn't deserve those harsh comments but I don't know what exactly were the judges thinking, whether they wanna send Kat home or trying to get her more votes...but i love that performance so much...

She looked absolutely the best I have ever seen her and sounded excellent. Hey Randy and Simon...guess what...maybe she wasn't trying to imitate Whitney's version of the song....maybe she was trying to put her own spin on it!

She really did sing her heart out....she had some fire...it was not a safe song choice....it was a risky performance....she tested her range and showed some attitude...that's why I absloutely loved it....the judges are full of it... Paula usually struggles to find (remember?)  words...but it seemed like she had it all worked out in her mind beforehand...she's just not that quick...hmmmmm....where's that hidden agenda anyway.....

Yes, the song is big for her but she did good. In fact, really good. The judges comments were definitely uncalled for and downright ridiculous. But last night's result created a two-fold scenario. She lost votes from those who blindly following the judges' comments. But at the same time, she gained votes from those who have ears. This is obvious when suddenly there are a bunch of non Kat fans standing up for her in the AI board, and this has never happened before.

Also because of the unfair treatment she got, she will definitely get some sympathy votes. Last week when she was praised, she got no sympathy but jealousy. So, if you look at it on the bright side, all things work out good for her. Btw, she won't be going home tonight, just no way.

Also many here have felt that Kat *needed* to do a song with power belting and extended notes to capture the greater audience, and this performance definately fir the bill.
