Last night after the show, I was lurking in the AI forums checking out more current news. And I was surprised to see the diversity of people’s selections. A lot of people based their choices on like - he’s so innocent; she’s so cute; I can’t stand his looks; she’s too fat; she looks like Carrie Underwood…etc. Honestly, it’s a little pathetic to see them based on these criteria.
Now, this is a different group, and I’d like to see what your picks are. I’d appreciate if you can also state your criteria or reasons of your picks. To me, I believe the most important aspect is singing, and then others. So, if you can’t sing, you won’t be on my list, plain and simple. Below are my top 6 (in the order of preference):
1. Katharine – She has the PUREST voice of all and it’s the ONLY voice with real DEPTH. She just needs to be a little more expressive on the performance side and she has no equal.
2. Chris – He’s not the best in any particular areas but he is consistent and better than most in overall, even though his voice is not that pure.
3. Elliot – He has a purer voice than Chris but with a narrower range. And he can’t sing loud. He is only suitable to sing certain songs that fit his style.
4. Mandisa – She can sing and perform but more toward screaming and yelling type, not exactly my cup of tea but is still better than others.
5. Paris – She is probably the best entertainer, both singing and performance. Considering her age, she is incredible. But her voice still needs to be shaped and trained professionally.
6. Lisa – Very similar to Paris, but in a much more subdue manner.
I agree with you to a point. Like it or not though, looks matter. This is American Idol, not American singer or performer. So if you can combine both of them, like Katharine, your success in this show is greatly increased. I think Elliott is prob the best singer in the competition, but he won't win cause girls don't find him attractive.
But based on singing and performing...

1. Taylor Hicks - This guy is a gem. A rare talent. He's not for everyone, but if you are into soul, you'll love Taylor. He probably stands no chance of winning since this is really a popularity contest more than a judge of talent, but I have to list him first because he is IMO the one brilliant performer on the show.
2. Chris Daughtry - Classic hard rocker. He certainly has the pipes and the charisma but he better stay with his genre. When he has to sing something softer, like that "Take It Easy" group song they did, he is pretty horrible.
3. Mandisa - What a voice on this girl. Probably the most powerful vocalist in the competition. When I hear Mandisa sing I think I'm in some southern church and the gospel is getting it on. I'm a big fan.
4. Paris Bennett - Don't ask me why because I think she's pretty overrated. A good singer but not yet of the caliber of the best in this group. However, she's been hyped by the judges and definitely has a "chosen one" feel to her.
5. Ace Young - Teen girls have cell phones and a lot of free time.
That's my selections. Wait...that's only five....who am I forgetting?

Oh, yeah! Wittle, sweet, adorable and wonderfully talented Katharine. The best vocalist in the competition and a ridiculously beautiful girl. I realize her diehard fans are going to be reading this but I have to offer one bit of criticism to Miss McPhee.....her stage presence isn't quite there with the other top contenders. Don't get me wrong, I love her and I'm rooting for her but I have to admit that last performance was extremely lackluster. Here's to hoping she finds her groove and wows us all the way to the finals.
....where she'll finish 2nd to Taylor of course. (Hey, I can dream!)
You may or may not be right. I really don't know, in the long run. But if those three can go on from this competition and have long successful careers in the music industry doing their thing, I think they're all winners.
Taylor's my guy. Katharine's my girl. Chris can come over when I feel like smashing something.

1. Katharine - She has probably the best voice in the competition and she has the complete package.. Great voice, Great singing, great looks, great personality... She will go very far...
I hope she will sing an upbeat song this week to prove to others that she can definitely move..

6. Melissa - I love her.... She can sing and she has a really unique tone to her voice... She impressed me every week...
