Top 24 - Mandisa went first and was not bad. Kat went last and was the best of the night. Top 20 - Kat went first and was "boring". Top 10 - Lisa first, was gone anyway. Eliminated. Top 9 - Mandisa first, was okay, or "horrible" according to Simon. Eliminated. Bucky last, his best performance. Top 8 - Bucky first. Not surprisingly eliminated. Top 7 - Chris first, did okay. Bottom two. Kat last. Best of the night. Coincidence? Bucky was last and Mandisa first on country week. Bucky first on Queen week. Chris first and Kat last on American Standards week. Ace - did he ever go first or last? Kellie - did she? I never pay enough attention to them to remember if they did. Maybe Kellie will go first and ... Why am I typing this instead of studying? Well, I typed it, so I'll post it.

An interesting topic! For the finals so far, the contestant going first: Week of 12: Ace Week of 11: Mandisa Week of 10: Lisa Week of 9: Taylor Week of 8: Bucky Week of 7: Chris So Kat, Kellie, Paris and Elliott have yet to go first. BUT WAIT! If you go back through the 3 semi-final weeks, Kat and Paris both went first once, BUT Kellie and Elliott have NEVER gone first. Me thinks that Kellie and Elliott are due the honor before Kat gets picked again.

First spot is probably the worst position strategically….fades from viewers recollection….some viewers tune in late may miss the first performance…later performances of equal quality (to #1 spot) are more memorable due to lesser ‘time lapse’; …‘pimp’ spot (last) is most desirable (unless you blow it badly)…show builds attention/drama as it goes… I don’t know how the producers determine the order of performance….I think Ace has performed in both first and last spots…can’t remember Taylor going first…or Chris first…but’ it’s possible…if you're suggesting that the producers put who they want (think?) to finish poorly in the first spot...it's possible

^I think ciuma is saying that there is a positive correlation between going first and getting voted off, and I partially agree. It is true that many people tend to "forget" the first performances by voting time, plus a good number of people tune in late, so they may miss one or two contestents. It certainly doesn't make a difference with the fan bases, but there are a ton of "wild card" votes which just go to the best performance, and these may be affected. So while being first doen't guarentee a contestent being voted off, it sure doesn't help either.

That would be good if Kat didn't have to go first for a few more weeks...it means she'd still be in the top 4...then performance positioning is not quite as important since there are fewer of them... I doubt they'll put Kellie first this week...ratings decision...but maybe that's what Ciuma was driving at...put Kellie first...lower rating...don't know

Uh... well, I'm confused. I thought I remembered Taylor going first some time, but I thought Mandisa went first that night. Well, Taylor didn't do too well on country night either, but he's always safe... Also, I thought Melissa went first on Top 12 night? But maybe I've gotten confused between her going first and her giving her best performance. Anyway, I wasn't saying anything... just thinking. Maybe the first person is more nervous than when not first. Maybe Kat went last this week because the producers thought American Standards was her week and that she should close the show - and that Bucky should close the show on country week. They could've put Chris first because they knew his non-rock performance wouldn't be that interesting. I'm not really into these conspiracy theories, but maybe the "producers" wanted him in the bottom three so his fans would start voting for him again when it counts the most. Okay, I'm going crazy with random ideas. Better stop while I'm ahead. As bcollan said, the first performance may be forgotten or missed - with these things I agree. I don't know how relevant that is. Maybe it's all just one big coincidence. Anyway, I just thought it was interesting.

I totally think that going first is a disadvantage, especially when there were more contestants. It won't matter as much in a couple of weeks, but there is definitely a correlation between lower number of votes and performance position. The last performance makes more of an impact. I think that Kellie or Elliot should be going first this week. I'll be curious to see how they do on the results show. Either way, Katharine will be amazing on Tuesday. Go Katharine!

I do sometimes forget the first performance unless it's Katharine. The fans will remember you even if you're first, but undecided voters are less likely to. I tend to remember Kat, and the worst performance. Of course, that always leaves me with 2 performances to remember. =)

Let's all remember to have confidence in Kat no matter where she ends up singing in the show! =) If the time comes, Katharine can overcome this supposed first position curse with her talent and our help! =)

There is one thing to remember. Everything is a "blind" draw. They don't know who is performing first or last, etc.
