Don’t you dare…but someone has got to help me understand….How in the name of ‘snot rag’ is Kellie not in the bottom three this week?
Mandisa is immediately sent home on basically one - admittedly bad - performance…
Yet Kellie, by her own admission and in the opinion of the judges, completely ‘butchers’ her song and she doesn’t even get relegated to bottom three…
O.K., maybe she didn’t quite deserve to go home ahead of Ace, but not even bottom three??!! How does that happen, and what does it say about the AI show?
Taylor keeps reminding us it’s not a dance competition, fair enough (I like Taylor – but Kat – you’re still my favorite!).
Simon says…you can’t be ‘...Too perfect…’ or you ‘Won’t win...’ but there is such a thing as the other end of the spectrum...
I understand that the appeal of the American Idol entails a composite of factors including physical appeal; an inviting personality; compelling performances; good song choices; bla…bla...bla…but I hope vocal ability is at least more important than it appears to be in Kellie’s case.
This is not a Kellie bash…I rather like her…she’s not without charm and I admire her for what she has accomplished on the show and how she has sustained herself through some of the challenges in her life… but I don’t understand why Kellie (and Taylor for that matter – ‘Country Roads…’) seem to be able to avoid ‘bottom three’ despite sub-par performances.
Is their fan base that large that their performances are almost meaningless? How do you beat that?

Simple answers: #1 Yes, #2 With much difficulty.
The only way to beat them is to fight fire with fire. Kat needs to increase the size of her fan base. And it *IS HAPPENING* all the time! With each great performance (and with the help of her loyal fans-US!), her fan base is exploding. Plus each elimination gives us the chance to pick up more votes. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we put her at the head of the pack in the next few weeks!
O.K. I understand the 'sympathy surge' and I guess we have to expect that to a certain extent....but where does it end...hopefully the Vegas odds makers are correct...placing Kat just marginally behind Chris for the lead...although I don't know what Vegas bases their odds on...
Speaking of 'I 'd vote for them no matter how they sang...' I must say that the guest singers Stevie, Barry, Kenny and Rod have been pretty bad...I wonder how they would react if the judges were allowed to render their opinion of their performances..??!! I like them all..but they haven't done a very good job at performing...
Idoleyes, you've described the "Kellie mystery" very well above, then posed two important questions: 1) "Is their fan base that large that their performances are almost meaningless? 2) How do you beat that?"
1) Yes, I think the Kellie fan base is very large (and highly mobilized by her stumble this week). Also, as others have said on this forum, people in the South seem to represent a large fraction of AI voters -- an advantage for Kellie. In addition, Americans in general (and Southerners in particular) tend to support an underdog almost irrespective of objective reasons like talent -- another advantage for Kellie, who is widely perceived as an underdog.
2) How do we beat that? Let's remember that Kat & Kellie are roomates ....because roomates typically share stories, feelings, etc lots more than if they were not sharing a room (remember summer camp?), it's very likely they've become real buddies! My guess is that even their fans sense this & are affected by it (I sure am), and might be inclined to transfer their support to Kat when Kellie is voted off. Our task, therefore, is to try to think of ways we can reach Kellie's large, loyal fan base after she leaves AI so as to transform any former Kellie fan inclinations to vote for Katharine into a landside of votes for Kat!
This is a subject of strategic importance! Anybody got any ideas?
I'm back...my bad...I was having trouble logging in and thought the Pick Pickler topic had crashed the server with disgruntled Kat fans!
Anyway...what you’re raising is sort of along the same vein that I was pursuing with my earlier ‘How does Kat improve her demographic appeal…’
It wasn’t hard to see it coming…that Kat was easily headed to a top 4 position…and that’s why I’ve been trying to figure out what - on a number of different levels – Kat might try to do to maximize her appeal across a broader base….I've been focused on her trying an upbeat performance or sharing more of what she's all about with fans..(..as if she listens to me?!!)...but what you pointed out is very interesting…I didn’t know Kellie and Kat were roommates (…’Some Kellie’s Have All The Luck’ – a Rod Stewart classic)…
But you’re right, there may be a way to facilitate the transition of Kellie’s fans over to Kat’s Kamp…maybe a blitz by Kat fans onto Kellie sites starting right after Kellie’s gone… offer our condolences and try to sympathize and start the momentum of encouraging Kellie supporters to throw their allegiance behind Kellie’s girlfriend Kat…is ‘all fair in love and Idol’?...Open Letter from this site to all Kellie sites – congratulating her on a great effort…mention their friendship… nudge…nudge...wink…wink...how ‘bout it …vote for Kat...?? I don’t know..
