Katharine reminds me of the late, great Eva Cassidy.... voice of an angel, completely effortless, time-transcendent.  As a musician myself, I could listen to Eva for hours upon hours.  I believe Katharine has that same quality... the mark of a true vocalist.  We believe in you, Kat!

I love Eva Cassidy's just as much as I love Katharine! You are correct when you use the term effortless in Eva's singing. Too bad that she died too early before the whole world can truly appreciate her beautiful singing. I really love her rendition of Fields of Gold which was originally done by Sting.

I have the same appreciation for Katharine's voice. She is likewise a gifted singer.

Eva was an amazing vocalist, taken before she should have been. And you'd never know she could sing like that when you saw her. She was so petite, yet her voice was as full and strong as any of the great vocalists of the jazz era. My two favorite songs of hers are "Wade In The Water" (studio album) and "Honeysuckle Rose" (from Live at Blues Alley).

I could listen to Katharine for hours too. I really hope she does some type of jazz album. I was totally into her performance last night. Shoot...I caught the McPheever when I heard her say her favorite vocalist is Ella Fitzgerald. In my opinion, there's no one greater.

What a coincidence. A few hours ago a was listening to my Eva collection and was trying to get a few of my friends to check out her work as well. It is great to know that there are Kat fans who are Eva fans as well. It is rather sad that not that many people know of Eva - eventhough they probably will have listened to at least one of her songs at least once, even if they didn't know who it was. Mostly because the American record producers couldn't find a genre for Eva, because she sang all sorts, and thus they didn't know how to market her.

To me, Eva is irreplaceable, beyond compare, but i do agree that Katharine's ability and talent to really sing out her emotions in her songs (so far) is akin to Eva's ability to make us feel what she is singing with her. And she really seems to be a sweet and beautiful person, inside and out - just like Eva. I truly can't wait for Katharine to release an album... i'm already a enthusiastic fan.

As for those who are curious about who this Eva Cassidy is, you really should check out her music... i suggest starting with her "Songbird" album. And reading this article - http://www.washingtonian.com/people/evacassidy.html - will show you why we think she's not just a person with an angelic voice, but a true angel.

I agree, Eva was a legend. Her early death was a big loss to the industry. I like her a lot. I also have her "Songbird" album in LP (yes, LP! not CD). I get goosebumps whenever I listen to her "Fields of Gold". Especially when being played back in a high quality sound system, this song is nothing short of breathtaking. If I hear Kat singing this song, I think I will faint.

I totally agree and thought the same thing when I first heard KM sing.  Songbird went platinum word of mouth and Eva never had a recording contract.   The album was from recordings by her musician boyfriend of her over the years for keepsake.  Eva was a natural blues singer.

Prior to Eva passing at 32 in 1994, she was on the rise and would have definitely come to be extremely famous.  It was a tremendous loss for our world that badly needs singers like Eva, and that's why KM is viewed as a rare jewel as well.  You just don't hear talent like this much anymore, at least I don't.

Eva was her own singer, she sang the songs she loved which is why she never had a recording contract. She was unwilling to sell out to the industry.  She sang at clubs and also had an album called Blues Alley that did very well.

It's great to know that others are as passionate about good music when they hear it.... a shout out to all the Eva fans! She truly was one of the greatest vocalists of our time - intensely intimate, driven by what was placed by God deep inside of her soul. When she sang... she gave nothing short of her entirety. The first time I ever heard her voice, a few tears slipped down my face, and I didn't even know why, nor did I know then that she had passed away. Thus far, Katharine seems to possess a quality similar to that of Eva's. Even a fraction of that quality would suffice, but I believe Kat truly has that unique gift. Listening to her sing makes me remember why I am so in love with music.

Wanted to add, that Katharine is only 21 years old!  Eva was in her 30's when she passed and had a significant amount of vocal development at that point, though I understand she never took any vocal training which was pretty amazing.  So, to compare them side to side, you must take that into consideration.

Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. (Victor Hugo)
