Katharine knocked it out of the park tonight. The song was perfect, she sang great and yes....she looked amazing. Simon said she made everyone else look like "amateurs".
What a rush hearing Simon say that. She did amazing and she is definitely gaining momentum.

Yep, who couldn't notice all those close-ups...It makes me think the show WANTS her to win, because she almost always sings toward the end of the show (and sang LAST tonight)...which I think is a big advantage to pick up the undecided votes.
I don't know about you, but I'm always exhausted about now after re-dialing two phone lines for two hours straight...but our Kat is worth it, so I will continue to do so!
I usually get 8 votes in every minute, unless I get a rare busy signal...so I'm guessing I got in about 900 tonight. It's strange, if I call on my home or cell phone, I get nothing but busy signals...but I also have ISDN (supplied by my work), which gives me TWO additional analog lines...and they are both almost always clear...must be a rare exchange with little traffic. And I have two speakerphones with redial, and have the timing down pat to blast the phone lines with votes for Kat!

Obviously, Katharine did great. Simon's comments basically put her ahead of everybody else in the competition (in his eyes). Ok, my concerns: Will Simon's comments cause more people to vote for Katharine, or will they cause people to vote more for the underdogs? Second, it was said over and over that this (standards) is Katharine's niche. I don't think this is a niche you want to be put into if you are trying to win AI. I can already hear the bashers saying that this is all Katharine does well.
But enough with the concerns, as we will just have to see how it plays out. What turned my head in year 1 was when Kelley sang Stuff Like That There (Big Band theme). Before that, I recognized that she could sing, but that was about it. I hope that a performance like tonight has the same effect on America (despite my concerns). In other words, when Simon says that one performance made the others look like amatuers, hopefully a lot of people will think, "yeah, you're right. She is great," and then start voting for her - start giving Katharine her due. But, she needs to continue to shine in the coming weeks (and themes) to come to prove how well-rounded she is. I think she needs to do another fast one like Think.
I have never heard any of Rod's standards albums, but I can tell you I would much rather hear Katharine sing these songs than Rod. Well, that was an understatement.
I didn't get home until about 7:30 (didn't know if Katharine had sang yet), and the only one I actually had the chance to listen to other than Katharine was Kellie. As I was listening, my thought was, is this really as bad as I think it is? I thought she looked lost and unhappy on stage. I am going to go listen to the others as soon as I get done typing. I think what this week did is actually require the singers to show off their singing ability. They could not hide behind smoke and lights, fancy dance steps (well, I saw Tayler was dancing when they reviewed the performances), or simply smiling for the camera. They had to sell a song with their voice. Ok, America, who do you honestly think connected best with their song and the audience tonight (and, by the way, who is the best singer)? (this isn't multiple choice).
Sorry, one more thing ... for those complaining about what Katharine wears each week, I thought tonight's outfit exentuated her figure just right. She looked very classy and (of course) beautiful.
Oh, and another thing - the only good thing the judges could say about Kellie was that she had on a nice dress and shoes. That doesn't say much for her. Plus, I thought Katharine's outfit blew her away.
Katherine McPhee was just incredible. Simply amazing and I could not believe what I was hearing. Ive only partly followed AI this season and hadnt watched in about a month. I thought the others were pretty good overall so I kept watching and then she performed and Simon was right. She made the rest of them look like 'good amateurs'. I would buy her CD right now. I would buy tickets just to see her do a concert. I know Chris is the popular singer on the show but after tonight, seeing him perform(not bad but not that good, either) and the rest, the only one that came off as a star was Katherine McPhee.
