Well, Rod Stewart did My Funny Valentine. The little that we heard of Kat during Hollywood rounds of her singing that song was amazing. I'd love to hear her do the entire thing. =) There's my first idea. I like Rod Stewart so I may come back with more. =D

Because he's done all those "modern classics," there's a ton of stuff that's right up her alley. Not the really sexy ones (like The Nearness of You, possibly) because it would take the guys too long to get their eyes uncrossed and stop the steam from rolling out of their ears before they could start voting. Something with a nice kind of bouncy tempo but not too fast, like The Way You Look Tonight or They Can't Take That Away From Me... she could show off her pipes and still move around a little. If she's just standing there in the spotlight, she'll get a combination of people who think that's fine because they can just look at her, and some who will figure every note had better be PERFECT because there's nothing to do but concentrate on the music.

Or maybe I'm all wet because I'm an old fogey and she should really do some Rockin' Rod. I just know what I like.

There's a lot of good songs to choose from." Have I told you lately" would be great, Noni, but I think you're right, she won't do it probably. I'd like to see her do "Stay With Me" or" Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", yeah, right! You're In My Heart(The Final Acclaim) is also a good choice. Rod Stewart is a storyteller in his songs, I think next week will be good for all the contestants.

Krazy about you, Kat!!! You're an Angel on Earth!

I would prefer Rockin' Rod, but I'm not sure the contestants can choose ANY Rod Stewart song...(Like Maggie May...Hot Legs..Sexy...Tonight's The Night...) doesn't it have to be a song from his 4 album American Standards set? Does anyone know for sure?

If the selection must come from Stewart's Standards set, that should set up well for Kat.

It’s a 4 album set with Stewart singing hits from the ‘30’s and 40’s (pop standards written by songwriters such  as Irving Berlin, Porter, Gershwin)...definetly no Maggie May to be found...although Funny Valentine is there.

I like "do u think I'm sexy" but it might be bad timing right now with people saying she's concieted right now. What's with the haters?

Two reasons she should stay away from that song:

1. No point in giving the bashers any more ammunition as they continue to attempt to paint Katharine as being conceited.

and most importantly

2. I would probably pass out if I watched Kat sing that song.

Who cares about the bashers? If that song is hot, sing it. Every star has their haters, comes with the territory. I believe she has a whole lot more people who love her than any amount of bashing can over come.

Oh and another thing. Katharine needs a niche. Kellie's is the ditzy blonde thing, Chris is the hard core rocker, Taylor is the drunk crazy dancing guy. Katharine's can be the sexy "Don't hate me cause your boyfriend wants me" debutante.

Here's my recommended list of Rod Stewart songs (originals, remakes, and standards) for the enchanting Katharine McPhee:

* "Your Song" (A fantastic remake of Elton John's masterpiece)

* "Have I Told You Lately?" (A delightful remake of Van Morrison's glorious love song)

* "Forever Young" (A Rod Stewart original about coming-of-age)

* "They Can't Take That Away From Me" (A smooth and poetic standard)

* "It Had To Be You" (A popular standard featured in director Rob Reiner's classic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally...)

* "Bewitched, Bothered, And Bewildered" (A magical standard pitch-perfect for Katharine's sultry singing voice)

* "Smile" (One of my all-time favorite "cheer me up" standards co-written by funny man Charlie Chaplin)

* "But Not For Me" (All hopeless romantics can relate to this standard because it was featured in the romantic comedy Four Weddings and A Funeral in the opening scene)

Thanks. Choose wisely, Kat. Trust your intuition. We support you 150% and then some!

Idoleyes, what is the diff in his sets?

The official AI site says that the contestants will 'take on the American Songbook'...with Rod Stewart as the guest...although I'm not certain what songs the contestants get to choose from.

Do they have to choose from Rod Stewart's - Great American Songbook (the 4 album set with Stewart singing hits from the ‘30’s and 40’s) by songwriters such as Irving Berlin, Gershwin etc?...or can they choose any song written by an American ?

Either way, Rod Stewart's classic rock songs can not be chosen. Too bad, I was hoipng Kat could do an upbeat 'rocker' next week. .

But, as I said before, this theme fits Kat perfectly...Taylor, Elliott and Paris might do O.K. but Chris will struggle (has Creed ever done a cover version of 'I'm In The Mood For Love' !?) and I don't know what Kellie will do.

Kat's got  lot of choices that suit her style, some suggestions:

Manhattan; I Only Have Eyes For You; Smile; You Send Me;

I like these suggestions...particularly 'Your Song'  - if Kat is allowed to choose that one...I'm still not clear on the scope of the songs they get to choose from...but if they are able to do some of Rod's originals and remakes, that would be great.

^^I think they have to choose the songs from the Rod Stewart hits from the ‘30’s and 40’s.  I hope she's not doing My Funny Valentine.   She better have fun next week.  I think Da Ya Think I'm sexy is a good choice as well as Maggie Mae (which I think Simon will like it). I think she'll doing well, but I'm not sure about a blow away performance next week though cuz Rod Stewart's music is all kind of cheesy.  I think it's better to have fun and just rock it out!!  Besides, even though she will do well, but Rod Stewart's songs aren't too difficult so other contestants could do well too. Kat needs to knock it out of the park.

I just read Kat's first rehearsal of WWTLF was very very good. Half of the audience cried and she got a standing ovation. It was unfortunate I guess that she had to rehearsed twice, so that could cause her voice a bit tired & strained.

Sorry...I don't get it...you say the contestants have to choose songs from the Rod Stewart hits from the 30's and 40's (and I think you're correct) then you recommend 'Do Ya Think I'm Sexy'...'Maggie May' ?!!  those songs are not hits from the 30's or 40's and cannot be chosen (from what I understand anyway).

Funny Valentine is one she could choose, buy I agree with you, she could make a better choice.

If they have to choose only from albums of RS doing standards, what was the point of making it Rod Stewart night? That would be like having Queen Night and then telling the contestants they have to do an imitation of Queen singing Cole Porter. Of course the narrower interpretation would probably give Katharine an edge...
