Last night, Katharine was told my Simon that she needed to thank the Camera Men and Lighting Crew because they made her look amazing.  She then said, "I know, I do". 

 

This was not meant to come out as "I know, I do"...look amazing. 

 

She meant "I know, I do"...need to thank the camera and lighting guys.  She even nodded to them and said "Thank you". 

 

I am sure there will be clarification if she makes it another week, but this just gives one more thing to those jealous of Katharine who continue to bash her. 

 

That said, please clarify this to anyone who tries to bring her down or who has questions about it.  Let's hope she makes it another week so Ryan can clarify it at next week's performance.

I agree with you.

Simon said that she should thank the lighting guys for making her look good. Katharine said "I know, I do, thank you guys". The "I know, I do" part was pertaining to Simon saying that she should thank them... to complete it, she said "I know, I do [need to thank them]." She looks towards the lighting guys and says "thank you". There's nothing arrogant about Katharine.

It seems like the bashers removed the "thank you guys" when they were complaining about her. They just need to find more and more things to bring Kat down. THANKFULLY, we know better than that. Katharine will always be number 1!

It took me a split second and I'm a fan. "Huh? What did she just say?" So afterwards I played my tape and listened better. A determined detractor can get a lot of mileage out of essentially nothing. Look at what happened to Mandisa and her supposed gay slur. After reading her side of it, I think somebody just fired from the hip--but I can understand them. At this point I just think I believe her. This is a high stakes contest, folks. People get crazy over nothing.

Bashers will use it to their advantage, and the Supporters will use it to their advantage as well. We all saw it as a gracious attempt at thanking the stage crew.

I did not question what she said for a minute. It was clear to me but I can understand people misunderstanding it because it happened so fast and for those that do not tape the show or are casual watchers could miss the point. The bashers however are just finding just cause for them to bash Kat. Nothing we can do about that. They are just mean people. Good to know that realitytv clarified it.

Maybe I'm just not the vanity kind, but I didnt even think about what 'she could of meant'. I thought she was thanking the lighting guys from the beginning...only now that I listen to it again do I hear how it could of been interpreted.

I didn't think about it either until I got online and saw everything people were writing about it. It's natural for people to be jealous of a pretty face, and there will always be people who will find something to attempt to bash Kat for. Those people can't be helped, but I think it's good for us to clear stuff like that up when we see it for the people who are honestly just reading what people are saying and being genuinely confused. =) Even if Kat would have meant it the other way, pssht, I wouldn't have cared. =) She did look amazing. Would it be so bad for her to realize this? =p Buuut I know she isn't that conceited, and that some people would be not so happy about that.

It really is incredible to see the degree of jealousy that some (the misguided few) posters have for Katharine...I used the article Chad provided to respond to a notorious Kat basher (on another board) who was flaming Kat over her belief that Kat's 'I know I do...' somehow validated every dispicable thought that she could conjure up about Kat...thankfully, posters like her (cloie4me) are in the minority and usually get jumped on pretty quickly by the Kat Krew (defenders of truth, justice, and the American Idol way...and yes...we have our own secret handshake and special decoder rings too!)

Anyway, when I saw your post asking '...should we do something about the bashers?...' I thought you might like to know that there are lots of us Kat fans already doing that on a daily basis...so I attached one of my responses to one such basher after reading a string of her attacks...and the beat goes on...

Is Katharine McPhee Conceited?

A misunderstood statement by Katharine McPhee during the American Idol QUEEN performance show has some American Idol fans accusing her of being conceited. The incident occurred after Katharine’s performance of “Who Wants To Live Forever.” While Simon Cowell was praising Katharine, he told her, “You owe a big kiss to the director and the lighting director there because they made you look amazing.”

After Simon made his comments, many fans heard Katharine respond with something along the lines of “I know, I do” and interpreted this to mean that Katharine was agreeing with Simon Cowell that she looked amazing. After receiving some emails pointing to Katharine’s alleged conceited moment, Reality TV Magazine reviewed a tape of the show to see exactly what Katharine McPhee said.

Katharine’s actual entire response was “Thank you, I know, I do, thank you guys.” Katharine also turned away from the judges and appeared to be looking toward the directors when she gave her response. The fact that Katharine was looking toward the directors and also said “thank you guys” indicates that she was not being conceited and agreeing with Simon’s comments about looking amazing. Katharine was actually acknowledging and thanking the directors for doing a great job.
