I agree she gave a great performance...Paris took a chance with The Show Must Go On and she lost, it was not good...Kellie did O.K. with BoRhap..Ace was weak...Elliott was marginal...Bucky was Bucky...Paris or Ace will go home this week...
Katharine looked amazing (again), sang with good tone, maturity and sincerity...she will definetly not be in the bottom 3 this week!
Good show Kat...on to Rod Stewart
Simon said something that I have replayed over and over - that she had some problems with something. And Katharine said something about not being able to fix it?? or Simon not being able to fix it??? did anyone catch that?
Then he said she needed to thank the lighting people because she looked amazing. And Katharine replied something like, "I know I do." I'm sure she was referring to thanking the lighting people, but to me, because the last thing Simon said was "you look amazing" to me, the first time I watched it, it came out like she was saying "I know I do (look amazing)." I hope voters did not take it that way and not vote for her for that reason.
On to the performance. I thought she did a pretty good job with it. It is a 5 minute song, and like I said on another thread, for the most part the song is boring. Katharine did a good job in making the song build. She got to the point of really belting it out without getting to the point of shouting (ala Mandisa and others). The judges all liked it and basically said it was near perfect. And of course, she looked great too - I am sure Paula must have mentioned that.
I only saw parts of the other singers so far. I did see Ace and agree totally with the judges that basically you don't sing We Will Rock You in a pretty voice. I caught part of Bucky and actually enjoyed what I heard. I have not heard Kellie yet. I caught part of Chris, but I was not familiar with that song. The judges were not real impressed. I didn't hear Elliott, but the judges were glowing over it. The biggest surprise to me was Taylor. I think if he had sang the song as written, it probably would have come across not so good like I had talked about before when discussing Crazy Little Thing Called Love. He invented his own melody for a good part of it and made it his own. I'm not sure straying from the actual melody of a song is a good thing, but it worked for him tonight. I didn't hear Paris yet either for the most part. I caught the end, which I thought she ended strangely, although Randy said she got it back together at the end.
When I said above that I didn't hear several of them, they were on, but I was cooking and then we were eating, so some I could pay attention to and some not. I am going to watch the tape in a little while.
When Kat said 'I know I do...' she followed it up with '...thank you guys...' glancing offstage (to the lighting guys presumably)....nothing you can do about Kat bashers, they will think what they want to think...just keep supporting Kat.
Kat did a good job overall, and her mom (and Kat) will review the tape and see the things that could be improved upon (notably the high-end finish on the 'Forever's...')...that's where Randy probably felt the song was 'a little big' for her in spots...she's got the range, and mom can work with her on her breathing to handle the high range notes...also the fact that she changed songs reduced her rehearsal time...I can just see them reviewing the tape together- as true professionals do - cringing at a few of the notes, hopefully laughing at it now...but that's what helps build character and will lead to improvement...but it was still a good performance...she will survive...(I just don't believe she will be bottom three this week) she will get better...she will get another chance in Rod Stewart week...maybe it's time to break out a higher-tempo song to draw an even wider fan base in.
