Anybody heard Kat's phone interview with Bob Rivers. It's really good and informative. She talked about singing Elvis songs, becoming an overnight celebrity, taking the judges criticisms, about her mom etc.  http://www.bobrivers.com

Search Katharine Mcphee in the site then click American idol Runner up Katharine Mcphee.

Guaranteed you'll love it! I did!

I think her comment about American Idol not being a talent competition but being about personality and backstory was very illuminating and frank.

It also shows that Katharine is honest about how she presents herself to her fans -- there is minimal BS or deliberate deceit -- She truly was angry when her friend Crystal Stark was eliminated before final 24 as she really believed that Crystal was way more talented than some of the final 24. It wasn't some ploy to make us see her in a better light. She also doesn't censor herself in order to not offend potential voters.

That's the ultimate connection between Katharine and us, her fans-- the relationship is based on truth ( as far as that is possible between a celebrity and her fans).

She won't deliberately lie to us or present a false PR image and we as her fans should appreciate this refreshing kind of truth telling. It's so rare in showbusiness these days. That's what keeps me supporting her for years to come.

It's especially cute they way she freaked out when they started playing 'Think' in the background. Just like the actors who refuse to watch their own shows/movies.

This radio interview was SO MUCH BETTER then the other one. The DJ's were very professional and asked her really good questions and not controversial ones. Thank God there are people out there that are genuinely looking out for Katharine's best interests and not for ratings. It is the BEST radio interview that I have heard. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING IT WITH US!!!

I echo everyone in thanking you profusely, KC. That was an awesome interview, better than any given by seasoned celebrities. At the risk of repeating all her fans' accolades, what really sets Kat apart is her personality and character and how she handles herself.

Sure, she has incredible, soul-stirring vocals and unparalleled talent. She is impossibly gorgeous, and gracious, and glamorous. Especially for one so young. Yet despite all that, what makes Kat so endearing to her fans (to me at least) is how refreshingly different she is from all other celebrities. She is elegant yet she can be silly and dorky at the very next instance. One moment, she has that profoundly beautiful. over-the-rainbow stare into the distance and the very next moment, she is waving at her fans like she really connects with them.

I am 46 years old and the last time I was this awed by a celebrity, I was a young man in my early 20's (It was a young Madonna!) and I still follow her career with interest. But by and large, I have over the years devoted my time and energy to volunteering and working on issues like the environment, human rights and political campaigns. When I emailed my friends my letter on Kat that USA Today had printed, their first thought was I must be going through a midlife crisis! Actually, they still do! Over the years, USA Today has printed quite a few of my letters but always of a "serious" nature.

I guess, in a long-winded way, my point is that Kat is just so refreshingly amazing that even an old dog like me who hardly watches TV anymore can be made to behave like a teenage boy with a crush on the prettiest girl in school! And to stay up at night, voting with a frenzy! Ultimately, I think the key word to explain Kat's appeal is that she is NICE. And that is a universal virtue which explains her global popularity. No doubt, she is going to be the new America's Sweetheart.

Finally, what I really got out of that interview was when Kat answered so maturely what she wanted in life. I mean, I'm 46 and some days I still wonder what I want to be when I grow up! She wants a huge career and she wants a private family life. For all the joys that she has in such a short time given us, her fans, I am sure I echo everyone on these boards by saying that we are committed to ensuring there are grammys and golden globes and oscars and tonys in her future and also we wish that despite all her future success, she will not be hounded by the press and harrassed by rumors.

(I apologize for the long post!)

Jimmy, thank you for the great message. I agree Katharine is different from other celebrities. She is so refreshing and real. She is definitely not just another pretty face. There is so much more to her. Katharine is Katharine and that is why we love her so much! I have never known anyone through television that has affected me in such a positive and endearing way as Katharine.

Thanks, Trina. I'm glad you like you like the post. Two of my favorite phrases on these boards is when we see a photo of Kat or watch or listen to an audio/video of her, we go "that's SO Katharine" or 'that's just Katharine being Katharine"! Really, thank god for Katharine!

I must echo all the sentiments here about this interview, which is the best of hers I've heard. The questions weren't "same ol, same ol" but they were delivered very prodessionally, rather than obnoxiously. These DJs let the guest have the spotlight rather than trying to make spectacles of themselves.

As for Kat, this interview just "reinforces to me how unselfish and down to earth she is. She hasn't quite gotten used to the idea of being a celebrity yet, but she still handles herself with commendable poise. Witness her response when they told her she had that "magical" quality: "Oh, I have that! ... oh thank you!"

(Granted, the haters would probably twist that into proof of "selfishness," but heck with em!)

I thought she misunderstood what they were saying and was actually quite surprised that they meant HER. Looks like one of those sentences that could be taken out of context and used as a baseball bat, like the infamous "Yes, I do" about thanking the lighting techs.

I've read so many things about her that sound contradictory, but I don't think they really are when you think about them. Somewhere I read a former teacher (I think) saying he thought of her as a very confident performer, but on the other hand she sometimes seems almost shocked by all the attention. I think she knows what she can do, but she's just never been exposed to the kind of big-scale adulation (and its opposite) that she's running across now, where people are just totally blown away by her whole person, not just a performance, and she sees that people are forming these personal connections to her, and as she said on Today, we're "invested" in the whole process. I know she's said she thinks a successful artist is one who touches people, but she's never really had to deal with all the ramifications of that kind of success.

She's learning that in some strange way, she's attracted a whole, huge extended family to herself, people with all kinds of expectations of her, and you know how families can be--loving, accepting, supportive, critical, weird and wonderful all at once.

Welcome to the Big Time, baby.  And hang onto your hat.
