I ocassionally look at Idol 7 and see for the most karaoke singing, no feelings and boring apperances. It was more than obvious at Beatles night, where Kat outclassed the entire pack of participants. And I can't really understand judges say - it's the best idol season ever. No way

I just heard Leona Lewis new single - it's boring like hell, scretchy voice, no exciting middle register, no soft register and charisma of of a cat having period. What Simon sees in her??. She's doing as many female singers do nowadays - making moves like they having sex while singing.

Also Mariah Carey is doing that in her last single "Touch my body". It's rare you see such a horrible video and song. Imho it's total waste of her fantastic voice - how can she continue to sing such c(rap) song that never will do her voice and talent any good. To waste a great voice for such crap r&b song - it's beyond my belief.

I recently saw and heard this hit song "Umbrella" . Little voice. Rihanna doesn't say me anything. Kat's better by a mile.

What 's the conclusion - Kat 's the best what has happened to us. This kind of talent, dignity, class, style, beauty, charisma and performance you don't find once a 5-10 years.

I'm pretty sure Kat and David are cooking together a real treat for us at the end of the year. And just think of major and I say major breakthrough, if Kat's new CD expresses all sides of her talent and the critics give it great reviews. I believe David Foster know exactly what's perfect for Kat.

Your thoughts?

Katfan07,

You are so on the Money with everything you say. It's great to hear from Katharine fans from other
parts of the world.Leona will be history as soon as Charice P get's the same Exposure.
That will leave our Katharine in a class by herself, especially after her new album drop's.
Also,we can't forget her movie's.The clone's keep fighting for the same audience and Katharine will scoot
by all of them.

Totally agree, Katfan07.As a commentator said recently,"Kat is the most beautiful person ever to come out of Idol".Her performance of Something on Idol not only blew everyone out of the water;it clearly demonstrated her ability to be a wonderful interpretor of song!Only Syesha,in her last performances, began to approach the command of the stage that Kat had throughout AI5.
I also found Leona's performance on Idol quite boring....she seems to be a product of Simon Cowell's hype and ego.Love your cat in heat analogy!Yes,sex sells here in America!
And yes,the underhyped Kat has it all in every department and that seems to be why David wants to include her in so many of his endeavors! They will continue to make beautiful music together!!

Tastes in pop music come and go, you never know what's going to be up and what down. As long as little kids are making the buying decisions... who knows. But everyone grows up eventually, and at some point you learn to like real music and real musicians, and you figure out that there were a lot of people making great music long before you were even born, and maybe you start branching out a little bit. And somewhere on your journey you discover people like Katharine.

I think people will be discovering and rediscovering her for years to come, and she'll be around for the long haul. Now that she's a more or less official Fosterchild, I don't think he'll let the world forget her because he believes in her and her talent. She's already enough of a "known quantity" that the paps take pictures of her everywhere. For whatever their reasons, people are just interested in her--they like to listen to her, look at her, read about her. That's what being a star is all about. And in her case, just for the benefit of those who think there's something wrong with that, it's all backed up with talent. AND it couldn't have happened to a nicer person. I'm done now.

PS They say that every year on Idol - this is the best year ever! Just part of the hype. And you keep hearing that they're going downhill, they'll be off the air soon, etc. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if Katharine's kids* got the chance to audition for Idol. It's become such a phenomenon, it's addictive. Once Katharine got me started on it, I was hooked, even if not as compulsively as that first year.

*I should write that one up for the Fan Fiction Forum--Kaycee cheering from the audience while Pookie belts out "Piece Of My Heart" onstage and Mom holds her ears muttering "She'll ruin her vocal cords if she doesn't stop screaming like that!"

To be honest, it's already 2 years after Kat was declared the runner up, and her music career is a bit disappointing to me even compared to other American Idol top 3's or 4's than I would have liked. I think it has to do with demographics, and Kat is in a peculiar limbo. She doesn't attract teens - Kat certainly is not in the radar screen of my teen children, although they know about her. She's not into rock or country which attract a broader age range. She's certainly beautiful and sexy, but not "bad" or vampy enough or edgy enough or controversial enough compared to other female r&b/pop artists of similar age to attract broad attention and drive name recall air play and sales. She's a wholesome talented beautiful girl with a sexyish image, that's all.

She seems to attract the older age group who really don't go out of their way to buy music.

So far, I can't think of where Kat should place herself musically to crack gold and platinum sales. She certainly will succeed in a niche market, as the not insubstantial number of fans (that means us) of hers, for example, will surely buy her albums - but I have a hard time imagining what blockbusters can relaunch her to greater heights with the general public.

I sure hope David Foster, with his experience and savvy in the music industry, can find the right winning recipe for Kat.

Sorry for whining...

i agree with you both Katfan07 and goody and i've said this for the passed two years, i'm sticking by Katharine, she will find her way and now with the extreme knowledge and talent of David Foster, there can only be great things coming on the horizon.

about the Leona Lewis thing and Rhianna, sorry i could never get how these two are in the top whatever charts or much ado about nothing. repetition in their lyrics drives me absolutely crazy. and yes what does Simon see in Leona? hmmmm, i'm puzzled on that one. she came on Idol and poof, where is she? or maybe i'm not listening to the right radio stations playing her music, but i don't hear much about her. she will be gone soon i also believe.

patience.... and all good things will come to those who wait and Katharine is worth the wait, i truly still believe that....

Beg to differ McObsessed....did you know that Kat's OTR has been on the Billboard charts for 2+years?Her digital downloads are the 4th highest of all the top Idols. Her Over It has gone gold!
I don't think her fan demographic is based primarily with more mature people.Over at IDF,I'd say the majority of fans are quite young: high school/college age.
Kat's career is multi-faceted.She is a singer;model/spokesperson and film star.As we've said here before....there are very many singers who have not ever had a gold record or a Grammy....those are not necessarily the benchmarks of a truly successful career.
We're glad Kat is not edgy or controversial. She is happy, grounded and makes the news forall the right reasons: her humanitarian endeavors.
The sky is the limit for Kat's potential....and we're all along for the ride!

Although Katharine has been performing one way or another for years, her real career is just beginning. Her film career is barely launched, and one album doesn't make or break an artist. She's not going to be one of those "bad girl" pop stars but I'm not sure exactly what she is going to be. I just don't think she's going away. I'm just here following it all with interest.

That's OK, many have felt the same way.

And you bring up some good points. Kat doesn't fit easily into into existing "pigeon holes". But thats OK. Given the right material, and the right production values, Kat will find her own niche. How big will it be? Time will tell, but Norah Jones, for instance, sold 5M albums into esentially a niche market she created, so why can't Kat? I know who I'd rather listen to!

Have McPhaith for a little while longer. Foster & McPhee can make a powerful combination.

Even during idol, I think people perceived of Kat as a movie actress aspirant and she was never taken seriously as a singer. Post idol, Kat dwelled on modeling and she was on every magazine rack in my local fred meyers. The teenage demographics didn't get the chance to appreciate her especially when she got married.

I have been observing pop culture for 30 years as an adult, and what I can say is, the more independent minded the artist is, the better he/she is supported by the public. Independence may be Kat being seen in an NBA finals game wearing a cap, no glamorous curly hair, no sungglasses on, wearing cargo pants and a sexy tank top, or better yet a lakers team shirt. That's just me, if you ask me, but then where is Katharine? Is she seen anywhere? Is she on the family way? Any clue? People are happy to see artists supporting other people or when they are die hard on a certain passion or habit other than singing. That makes a person interesting.

Generally, people like seing artists just acting humanly natural the humble way without appearing necessarily around luxury or affluence. Another independent kind of move is turning up on the news that Katharine goes back to college and finishes up a degree (like what Jodie Foster and Brooke Shields did). This would definitely attract students and the young demographic.

People right now are sorta confused about what Katharine wants to do. They know she's extemely talented and they're just waiting for her to do a very interesting move to get into her boat. I would say, she should get into that "So you think you can dance". She should also think of attending the summer olympics as a spectator and fan of swimmers or gymnasts. Sports is one place one could attract fans. The more she is seen anywhere being just a regular person, the more she could get her name around and hopefully could get fans.

Or, maybe Katharine should be seen strumming a guitar while singing in an LA bar on a weekend night having fun hanging out with her friends. There are so many things I could think of that could attract people to follow up singing artists and celebrities, but those that usually stand out for me are sports and the clubs around where young people go normally.

In the presence of many talented singers around, Katharine cannot be hiding or cannot be too exclusive. She needs publicity in venues or events other than musical places. That's just me. I'm not going to argue with anyone if you dispute or refute it. I'm not trying to design anything for Katharine. I'm just saying my own observation, my own individual opinion.

But of course, we rely too much now on David Foster to turn things around for her. I think she needs a good publicist/strategist, different than Nick. Don't argue with me there. I'm not going to continue on. Sorry, but just an opinion. Not trying to be disrespectful at all. But then again, we have so much time to wait on, as well, for everything to set in place. So, patience.

Movie actors like Paul Newman, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall and Bette Davis make me want to live in the era they lived but I could have been just as inspired even now while I watch their work in films.

Somehow Mattsie,I don't think Kat is really into self-promotion.Kat has said the bar/party scene is simply not her bag.She does generate publicity simply by living her life;doing her gigs and being pursued by the paps. The bloggers follow her every move!As like last week,Kat often does private events(such as that billionaire's birthday party with Foster/Bocelli/Brightman)that are not covered by the press....but still promote contacts and her career!Foster is a mentor and a friend....a very special relationship.

At this point,I believe Kat's marriage is rather inconsequential as far as developing a newer fan base or retaining the original.People will appreciate her for her talent and beauty;with or without a spouse!
Hopefully, teens will be seeing the new Neutrogena TV ads, aimed right at their demographic; with the gorgeous Kat pitching acne cures. In 2+months,everyone will be seeing Kat on the big screen; in her first feature film! And the dvd/cd of tonight's Vegas concert goes on sale with a PBS pledge drive in December.
I think Kat is receiving all the publicity she needs at this point in time.

just a sidenote to my post up there about Leona Lewis......this morning while watching Regis and Kelly, Jesse McCartney was on and talked a bit about being in collaboration in writing Bleeding Love for Leona Lewis and i heard him compare her to Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, said she was up there with them with her great voice.....sorry, i beg to differ, Leona Lewis is no Mariah, nor is she a Whitney, i know she's trying to sound like them, but not even close...if she's around in 10 or 15 yrs on top, come back and talk to me.

and Simon, Randy, Paula and Clive, i thought that was taboo to even try to compare them or sound like them....JMO of course.

The "taboo" seems to be applied to singers when convenient for the stooges' agenda......for example,LaKisha sang IHN last year and not one peep about her trying to be Whitney...or the song was"too big"for her.
The Leona hype goes on....like the Emperor's New Clothes...say it often enough and people will start to believe it!

Hi people,
I was in an auto accident on my way to Atlanta-Hartfield Airport this morning, thus preventing me from
going to tonight's concert. My grandson was driving, and a pick ran a stop sign and hit us.No real serious
injuries but enough to keep me from catching my flight.
Anyway,i want to put the Leona Lewis saga to rest.Charice P will put her away.No if's and's maybe's
or butt's. I posted this yesterday and the day before and so on___The dynamic duo will stop at nothing
for the big$$$$$$$$$$.Again,Charice will beat LL INTO THE GROUND.If you have not heard heard her,go do it now and you will understand.
Katharine will be all by herself in her own niche. Her new album will be a block buster. Her commercial will bring in more offers that you can imagine.
Performing the other night in Texas was a huge, huge boost for her.The circle of influential people that
David Foster produces show's for reaps in more money than the album's.Katharine is now part of David's
family.Word of mouth from thrilled client's bring's in more and more private Performance's.Billionaire's
are as good a referral as it get's.I'm going to rest now and Dream about tonight's show.

Intermission Report from Minnie at the concert.Katharine looked absolutely Stunning.Long gowns and
Beautifully Styled hair.David introduced her and the audience responded wih great applause. She started to
Sing unforgetable but stopped and said wait, that's Natalie Cole's Song.As she said that, the Huge monitor's
started showing a recorded message from Barbara Striesand, congrat's David on all of his great accomplishment's and contribution's to the musical world. After Barbara was finished,Katharine came back
out and Sang "Some Where"One of Barbara's Biggest hit's.WhenKatharine was finished, she received a
Standing Ovation.David came out on stage an said in his own way that this is the type of Song Katharine
was born to sing. Before the intermission,Andre came out and performed Four Song's,including
"Cant' heilp falling in Love with you"The audience expected Katharine to sing that with Andre and appeared
dissapointed. At that moment,he called Katharine out to Sing "The Prayer" That caused another audience explosion.and was the only duo in the first half of the show.
Back tomorrow with the rest,The house was sold out with standing room only.
