Catch Kat in The House Bunny in theaters nationwide NOW! fandango.com
I ocassionally look at Idol 7 and see for the most karaoke singing, no feelings and boring apperances. It was more than obvious at Beatles night, where Kat outclassed the entire pack of participants. And I can't really understand judges say - it's the best idol season ever. No way
I just heard Leona Lewis new single - it's boring like hell, scretchy voice, no exciting middle register, no soft register and charisma of of a cat having period. What Simon sees in her??. She's doing as many female singers do nowadays - making moves like they having sex while singing.
Also Mariah Carey is doing that in her last single "Touch my body". It's rare you see such a horrible video and song. Imho it's total waste of her fantastic voice - how can she continue to sing such c(rap) song that never will do her voice and talent any good. To waste a great voice for such crap r&b song - it's beyond my belief.
I recently saw and heard this hit song "Umbrella" . Little voice. Rihanna doesn't say me anything. Kat's better by a mile.
What 's the conclusion - Kat 's the best what has happened to us. This kind of talent, dignity, class, style, beauty, charisma and performance you don't find once a 5-10 years.
I'm pretty sure Kat and David are cooking together a real treat for us at the end of the year. And just think of major and I say major breakthrough, if Kat's new CD expresses all sides of her talent and the critics give it great reviews. I believe David Foster know exactly what's perfect for Kat.
Your thoughts?
Tastes in pop music come and go, you never know what's going to be up and what down. As long as little kids are making the buying decisions... who knows. But everyone grows up eventually, and at some point you learn to like real music and real musicians, and you figure out that there were a lot of people making great music long before you were even born, and maybe you start branching out a little bit. And somewhere on your journey you discover people like Katharine.
I think people will be discovering and rediscovering her for years to come, and she'll be around for the long haul. Now that she's a more or less official Fosterchild, I don't think he'll let the world forget her because he believes in her and her talent. She's already enough of a "known quantity" that the paps take pictures of her everywhere. For whatever their reasons, people are just interested in her--they like to listen to her, look at her, read about her. That's what being a star is all about. And in her case, just for the benefit of those who think there's something wrong with that, it's all backed up with talent. AND it couldn't have happened to a nicer person. I'm done now.
PS They say that every year on Idol - this is the best year ever! Just part of the hype. And you keep hearing that they're going downhill, they'll be off the air soon, etc. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if Katharine's kids* got the chance to audition for Idol. It's become such a phenomenon, it's addictive. Once Katharine got me started on it, I was hooked, even if not as compulsively as that first year.
*I should write that one up for the Fan Fiction Forum--Kaycee cheering from the audience while Pookie belts out "Piece Of My Heart" onstage and Mom holds her ears muttering "She'll ruin her vocal cords if she doesn't stop screaming like that!"
i agree with you both Katfan07 and goody and i've said this for the passed two years, i'm sticking by Katharine, she will find her way and now with the extreme knowledge and talent of David Foster, there can only be great things coming on the horizon.
about the Leona Lewis thing and Rhianna, sorry i could never get how these two are in the top whatever charts or much ado about nothing. repetition in their lyrics drives me absolutely crazy. and yes what does Simon see in Leona? hmmmm, i'm puzzled on that one. she came on Idol and poof, where is she? or maybe i'm not listening to the right radio stations playing her music, but i don't hear much about her. she will be gone soon i also believe.
patience.... and all good things will come to those who wait and Katharine is worth the wait, i truly still believe that....
That's OK, many have felt the same way.
And you bring up some good points. Kat doesn't fit easily into into existing "pigeon holes". But thats OK. Given the right material, and the right production values, Kat will find her own niche. How big will it be? Time will tell, but Norah Jones, for instance, sold 5M albums into esentially a niche market she created, so why can't Kat? I know who I'd rather listen to!
Have McPhaith for a little while longer. Foster & McPhee can make a powerful combination.
Even during idol, I think people perceived of Kat as a movie actress aspirant and she was never taken seriously as a singer. Post idol, Kat dwelled on modeling and she was on every magazine rack in my local fred meyers. The teenage demographics didn't get the chance to appreciate her especially when she got married.
I have been observing pop culture for 30 years as an adult, and what I can say is, the more independent minded the artist is, the better he/she is supported by the public. Independence may be Kat being seen in an NBA finals game wearing a cap, no glamorous curly hair, no sungglasses on, wearing cargo pants and a sexy tank top, or better yet a lakers team shirt. That's just me, if you ask me, but then where is Katharine? Is she seen anywhere? Is she on the family way? Any clue? People are happy to see artists supporting other people or when they are die hard on a certain passion or habit other than singing. That makes a person interesting.
Generally, people like seing artists just acting humanly natural the humble way without appearing necessarily around luxury or affluence. Another independent kind of move is turning up on the news that Katharine goes back to college and finishes up a degree (like what Jodie Foster and Brooke Shields did). This would definitely attract students and the young demographic.
People right now are sorta confused about what Katharine wants to do. They know she's extemely talented and they're just waiting for her to do a very interesting move to get into her boat. I would say, she should get into that "So you think you can dance". She should also think of attending the summer olympics as a spectator and fan of swimmers or gymnasts. Sports is one place one could attract fans. The more she is seen anywhere being just a regular person, the more she could get her name around and hopefully could get fans.
Or, maybe Katharine should be seen strumming a guitar while singing in an LA bar on a weekend night having fun hanging out with her friends. There are so many things I could think of that could attract people to follow up singing artists and celebrities, but those that usually stand out for me are sports and the clubs around where young people go normally.
In the presence of many talented singers around, Katharine cannot be hiding or cannot be too exclusive. She needs publicity in venues or events other than musical places. That's just me. I'm not going to argue with anyone if you dispute or refute it. I'm not trying to design anything for Katharine. I'm just saying my own observation, my own individual opinion.
But of course, we rely too much now on David Foster to turn things around for her. I think she needs a good publicist/strategist, different than Nick. Don't argue with me there. I'm not going to continue on. Sorry, but just an opinion. Not trying to be disrespectful at all. But then again, we have so much time to wait on, as well, for everything to set in place. So, patience.
just a sidenote to my post up there about Leona Lewis......this morning while watching Regis and Kelly, Jesse McCartney was on and talked a bit about being in collaboration in writing Bleeding Love for Leona Lewis and i heard him compare her to Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, said she was up there with them with her great voice.....sorry, i beg to differ, Leona Lewis is no Mariah, nor is she a Whitney, i know she's trying to sound like them, but not even close...if she's around in 10 or 15 yrs on top, come back and talk to me.
and Simon, Randy, Paula and Clive, i thought that was taboo to even try to compare them or sound like them....JMO of course.
