I missed the boat on this, but in early January, Ryan and the 3 stooges listed some bests and worsts from the show's history. Paula named Kat as the singer with the most disappointing career.  I wonder if she meant that "Kat blew her chance," or that "Kat was a victim of bad luck?"

http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2008-01-10-idol-reflections_N.htm

USA TODAY asked Idol judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, plus host Ryan Seacrest, to identify some of the highlights and lowlights of the show to date:

...

Singer with most disappointing career:
Simon & Ryan: Tamyra Gray
Paula: Katharine McPhee

Singer with most surprising level of success:
Simon & Ryan: Chris Daughtry

I think Paula was considering Kat's first CD sales compared with her potential sales. Obviously Paula sees Kat as a potential multi-platinum superstar, just as we do!  On the other hand, it's almost an insult to Daughtry to be considerered as having the most surprising level of success. I wonder what they were expecting?

Paula thought Katharine had alot of potential, but she tought her cd sales weren't what they turned out to be. She thought that was unfortuante. Simon and Ryan also thought Tamyra was going to be a huge success, but they were disappointed that it didn't work out.

This remark from Paula,the most patronizing judge on the planet,really ticks me off!!
Yeah...it's the old"blame the victim"thing: the music biz version!Like it's Kat's fault that RCA chose not to promote her CD adequately!It's Kat's fault that RCA couldn't spring for some bucks to even give her a live band on last summer's tour.Pure,unadulterated bull,Paula!
Why make it sound like an artist's career has tanked when it hasn't?Kat's career is going great...she probably has more irons in the fire than any other Idol in history!!

So why isn't Taylor Hicks listed in the most disappointing? He won?

I think Paula should look back on her own career, which for me ranks about the same as Milli Vanilli. She should just shut her big mouth, nobody really wants her opinion. Katharine's first album failure is due to the bonheads at Sony records. Most of the blame should fall on Clive Davis. She was given material that had no chance to succeed in today's pop market. We should all reserve judgement until we hear what Katharine and David Foster are producing. David is a perfectionist and if he believes that Katharine is a star, then lookout world Katharine will take the world be storm.

Paula said that only because she was excited for Kat's future. I think it shows that she wanted her to do well. She wouldn't have been disappointed otherwise.

Yeah, I'm thinking (or hoping) that Paula was being charitable there and wasn't ripping Kat. I'd agree that Paula and/or the other 2 panelists need to go. I wish the show would bring in Mark Holden, who just left the Australian Idol judging panel but would be an improvement over Randy, Paula, and Simon. From what I've seen, he offers insightful analysis, and while he's not afraid to mix it up with the contestants, I don't feel he's gratuitous or unfair.

As for the most surprising success, I'd go with Kellie Pickler or country boys Bucky and Phil, who all bombed in Idol but get decent play on the country airwaves.

This is an old article but...at first glance it's easy to get upset by that but when you think about it...all that means is that Paula thought Katharine would do better than she has so far.  Didn't we all?  Now that's purely based on album sales of course.  We all know she's got a lot of other things going for her right now.  Certainly a lot more than the guy that finished ahead of her in Season 5.  Although he's doing better than anyone would give him credit for.  Chris Daughtry and to a smaller extent, Kellie Pickler has made Taylor & Katharine's lesser successes (at least in music on Kat's part) look worse.

I'm not sure why they are so surprised about Chris.  I always thought he'd be the most successful of that bunch when it came to record sales.  Bucky is the one that's surprised me the most.  For him to sell 300,000 records is stunning to me.  But it's a testament to how many people by country records.

Just to remind you guys of the Stooge Simon's nasty,mean-spirited remark(below) about Kat.
Sure,he doesn't care much.....that's an understatement.He only seems to care about a singer in terms of money and profits receivable....such as his investment in Leona Lewis!!
And why have the "ending up on Broadway" prediction sound like community service or being in the pits and drinking wine out of a bottle?So many Idols(Fantasia,Dianna DeGarmo,Mandisa and now Clay)have enhanced their careers by their theater stints!
Randy is the only judge with class,savvy and consistancy.

"Didn't care much about Katharine McPhee. I don't think she was a credible recording artist. Katharine will end up on Broadway."

Well he must have thought she was credible at her audition. What else does current mean? Sometimes I think Moses parted his hair a little too deep and cut into the gray matter, to borrow from Jimmy Kimmel.

paula is a ----, have you ever really looked at her on a dlp set, she is homely, and she knows it, she is always putting down the girls, and loving the guys, she will be an old maid soon, with all that makeup on, just can't stand her, wish randy would slap her in the mouth!

I don't think I would be slapping Randy on the back anytime soon either. If you watched the Larry King show the other night when all three (Randy, Paula and Simon) were on discussing AI, Larry King asked if America got it right about the winners of all the seasons. Randy said he thought America got it right each season when Simon interrupted and disagreed saying "what about season 5?" and Randy responded who won season 5. When Simon answered Taylor Hicks, Randy said "well, do you remember who the runner-up was?"  My blood was starting to boil.

Hi People,
Just got home from Dr# 3 and i am so happy to read all of the _Venting_____
I'm with all of you.
I posted goldenpub's review the other day about Larry Kings Show,and my blood pressure went thru the
roof
Simon,taking his time answering Randy's question,and Randy jumping in and saying to Simon
"You Don't Remember"
Last Night's Jordan Sparks moment was well deserved,but the award's were another example of
the lust for the dollar.Alicia's tour will be starting soon,and Jordan will be opening for her.Watch the Promo$$
As i have said before,the burn out rate amongst the clone's is very high.

I have a record and album collection dating back to the early fifties.Over 5,000.
Listing to all of the artists that performed "Over The Rainbow"including the one and only
Judy Garland-No one come's close to Katharine's Version and Performance.
That is a song that was written for emotion's to spill out.
Listing to Jason perform {what's his name's version with the 'Uke]made my stomach turn and also D Foster's.
Then adding to the insult,Paula say's"Perfect Song"-{which mean's what?}
Simon remark's"Fantastic"_{What planet was he on}
Randy say's that was "Hot,Hot,_{non committal like Paula}
Did that version really jump out and Grab anyone like it was written to do?
The final straw was last night.Voting Michael Johns off.

We are so lucky to Have Katharine and she make's proud every day with just her Smile alone.

I don't think lack of venting is going to be a problem here.

I guess one good thing about being temporarily without cable TV is missing that Larry King interview. Kat probably has a hard time remembering Randy too, given how blase' she was about listening to their Real Love collaboration.

OK...here's how I recently vented! On Friday (04/11), on the last, new hour of the Today show with Hoda Kopi and Kathy Lee Gifford, they were discussing this very same subject...although it was because of the shocking elimination of Michael Johns (too bad, I liked him). I was waiting to see what would be said and sure enough, Kathy Lee said "and we haven't heard anything about Katharine McPhee".

Yes, Goody, my blood pressure went up considerably and I headed immediately to my keyboard to vent! I wrote to The Today Show and in particular, to Kathy Lee. I did my best to remember all of the things Katharine has done since her Idol days. I know I must have forgotten something, given the state I was in! But, I did fill her in on the House Bunny and of course, the album and appearances with David Foster. I even chided her a bit by saying "I don't have to tell you who David Foster is, do I?"

I also mentioned her Neutrogena and Big Sexy Hair endorsements and also McPhee Outreach.

I am not holding my breath for any kind of response from them, but as you say, venting is good!??!!

Just a short "foot-note" to my last post. Jason Castro's version of "Over the Rainbow" rang a bell in my memory bank. I believe it was used at the very end of the movie "50 First Dates" with Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. I wasn't wild about Jason's emotion free version on AI, but, I have to say, it did fit in well with the movie. Maybe, it's because it was filmed in Hawaii...Kauai, to be exact, so the ukelele was appropriate!
