Yeah, and Paula has pointed that out more than once. Remember Simon's idiotic remark about how there's no pressure, what are the contestants whining about, etc. They're getting the chance of their lifetimes, it's better than selling shoes or digging ditches, the worst that can happen is that they'll go back to selling shoes. Yeah, Simon, that's the point. These people are willing to leave their families behind, sell their pets, try to forget that one of their parents just died--whatever their personal tragedy or hardship is--because they're desperate to get that big chance. No pressure there. Where is that man's head? Okay, I'll stop now.

Looks like I'm going WED. I got this email yesterday!!!

Due to your place on the waiting list, we are notifying you of availability to tapings of American Idol next Tuesday, March 11th and Wednesday, March 12th.

On Tuesday we are taping the full dress rehearsal which is a taping of the entire show including all performances and Ryan Seacrest. The only thing you don't see in the rehearsal is the judge's comment. This is generally the best way to get into a taping of the performance show as tickets for the live performance show are limited.

And on Wednesday we are taping the LIVE results show featuring a special performance by Katherine McPhee!

Please remember vouchers are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Thank you and enjoy the show!!

You lucky dawg, Dennis!  I got an e-mail like that last week for Blake's performance.  OMG, that's so awesome your number came up and you live close!  Dennis you must call us with an update!  You have good karma.

"Where is that man's head?"
Well,Groucho....another question might be,where is that man's heart,or does he have one in the first place?
Like last week when Ryan asked him which of the last 2 girls should go throught to the top 12.Simon's response was a blase,"it doesn't really matter".Does anything matter to this man?
He is a jaded, apathetic fellow who is paid for demoralizing and humiliating these poor kids any which way he can.....going after their clothing,hair,personalities.....what about the singing contest,Simon?

Katharine had every right to sing a Whitney song.....contrary to Simon and Clive's opinions, other singers are allowed to cover songs that Whitney has sung.Besides,INH is David's composition and he seemed more than fine with the fact that Kat was performing his very own song!!

Two questions....where is Whitney's new CD?Was it ever released??
Why is Simon even a judge, when he freely admits he knows so little about so many musical genres? He professes to know which contestants will sell, but look at his track history and how many times he's been wrong about several finalists!

At least Paula, and especially Randy have knowledge of music and personal histories in the biz!

I've always thought Paula belonged on "Dancing with the Stars" rather than "AI" based on her resume probably putting "dancer" before "singer"...and long before "pretending to be drunk." Nevertheless, she was able to get by vocally on her dance/pop hits of the 80's--but she was far from a Maria Callas. While it's great she gives supportive comments, I still shake my head when I see her giving professional vocal advice (and telling someone they're flat) when her songs didn't have to utilize those techniques nine times out of ten.

And as far as Simon goes: It's the problem of jetsetting between two continents. Also, everybody getting a rise out of what he says is exactly what he wants. Remember that he's a crafty manipulator and not using cut and dry criticism. Ignoring it will make it go away.

But overall, why worry about the "AI" judges after all this time? The "Triumvirate" hardly matter in the bigger picture of the show now. They're only there because it's a part of the "AI" formula and nothing much more. It's too bad the contestants still take what they say so seriously when it's akin to a few townsfolk in a local talent show who have minimal musical credentials and a provincial view of the world. I agree, though, that Randy obviously has the most credibility to judge--despite his lazy use of musical terms that make no sense.

Anyway, I'm surprised I wasted over 100 words on talking about the judges. The good news here, of course, is Kat returning to the show...finally!  I just wonder if Fremantle and 19E actually had a huge glob of melted chocolate to deal with last summer. Does anybody know if they actually received those Kit-Kat bars?

It still feels, though, that she won't be allowed to sing one of her own songs--but rather was brought in to promote "Real Love" as a marketing tool toward getting Randy's album to debut at #1 this week. David Foster may just be there as a convenient way to make the official announcement that he's working with Kat. I somehow can't picture him playing the piano along with "Real Love", however, so any other guess may be right. If it's a new song by Kat, I'd think they'd announce it in advance based on the idea that people would go out and buy it the next day to make it chart.

Hearing Kat sing "Unforgettable" wouldn't seem right either--unless Kat's decided that singing standards is her true calling after all. People who sing standards on "AI" don't always get the best response...though Kat may be the exception.

The ultimate validation would be Nigel coming out on stage with a giant box filled with melted chocolate...and the silent apology will have been made...

By the way, thanks to Nancy for the news. Man, we haven't talked in ages...

Also a shoutout to Dennis for getting in to see the show Wednesday. Since it's back in the old studio that night--the chances of a sign being seen (or maybe an Adriana-inspired "You're fabulous!" scream) would be workable...

__

P.S. on the Whitney Houston album mentioned above: I think they're still working on it. Or, it could have been halted due to some negative reviews of Whitney's voice while performing live in Europe a while back. For her own sake, I hope she has a successful album again, even though it still feels odd that Kat and Whitney may be competitors on the charts down the road...

Hi, Greg! You're welcome for the news. I'm so happy to have been able to report it.

I'm not sure how all that contractual stuff with record labels and AI goes but, looking back, it seems that every former contestant who's returned to sing on the show has ALWAYS performed a new song. If that holds true for Kat, then yes, she may be singing Real Love, but with David Foster there, it's more likely she'll perform a new single. Wishful thinking? Perhaps, but I feel more confident about that than about which season 7 contestants might be leaving next week.

If the story was that Katharine and Elliot were makling guest appearances on the show the day after the release of Real Love then you could bet 100% that that is what they would be singing. The fact that it is Katharine and David Foster means you can guarantee 100% it isn't.

So - what do we have left? The worst possible choices:

SOTR! ugh! Please not! That would be the end of her career and proof that she and David and her people are totally going in the wrong direction.

A Beatles song. ugh! Please not! I don't think anyone should cover Beatles songs. I've never heard a cover that was as good as the original. And done by people who weren't around the first time they just sound cabaret. As big a fan of the Beatles that I am, I cannot think of one of their songs that would suit her.

Other possibilities:

Something from her album. I'd love to hear her do BOA but apart from that I think the album is dead. A year too late for that.

Something new. Possible. Seems a bit premature to already have put something together for the new album. An unknown song is a risk unless it is a really powerful song, the kind that only comes along a few times a decade.

Something old. Digging back into the American Song book would be great for some of us but would do nothing for her career.

Something borrowed. A cover? Best possiblity here would be Mary Jane IMO. She is already associated with that song by all of us who have been folowing her career. This would bring the house down at Idol for all those who have not heard her sing it before and would have immediate emotional impact on those who do not know the song.

Something blue. Is Katharine's new direction going to be jazz/blues AC a la Monheit and Nora Jones?

Anway, I for once will be paying attention to Idol post Katharine. A lot of us will be counting on east coast cappers for a play by play in the chats and streming media caps ASAP.

Should be a great night for us all.

This is really great news, all! I'm REALLY looking forward to Wednesday nights performance now!! Even more than before. Don't know what song it's likely to be, and I'm not even going to attempt to speculate. I just know that it's going to be GREAT, whatever it is.

Oh, and Gregoriancant, rather than a big box of "melted chocolate", I think it would be even funnier, and maybe more "pointed", if Nigel came out and dumped a HUGE box full of "empty" Kit-Kat WRAPPERS on the stage, after Kat's performance! (... and maybe even thanked Kat's Fans for them too??... LOL!!!)

I know the song choice is important but since David Foster is involved, I'm not quite as concerned. The man knows what he is doing. What I'm really happy about is the timing of her appearance. It's the first results show on the Top 12, in the newly refurbished studio. No one has a clear cut choice on the Top 12 (unless you're totally for David A.) and so IMO, the TV audience should be huge but not there 100% absorbed in their favorite. That gives Kat a powerful place to stand. A few weeks down the road and everyone will be really there for their favorites. And, she will be the first returning alum to perform this year.....Oops, sorry Blake fans. I guess his performance last week didn't do much for me.

It's great to see KMF all abuzz about this..... And they say that "Disneyland is the Happiest Place on Earth" !!!!! ....guess "they" are not KMF folks!

Good Morning all Katharine Fan's.The start of our new movement is approaching.
My prediction's
1}Real Love will be a single
2}Katharine will perform either "Unforgetable"with Natalie Cole's Blessing or
"What a Wonderful World " with a New Arrangement.
The Great Rod Stewart know's what he is talking about when he say's Kat was born to sing the "Standards"David also knows this .When Simon dissed Kat,it was also a slap a David.
How many Grammy's has Simon Won?

Red Sox seems to be a recent reincarnation of a previously suspended member and is apparently clueless about all the terrific things you have done in Kat's name for the past 2 years! The comment was rude and uncalled for.....

Hi Goody! I'm with you on "Real Love"! It's a really "catchy" song and I can't stop playing it! I (like many others, I'm sure) have put in on my page on MySpace. Your choices for her performances are good ones as well. If she checks out our site (and her other fan sites, too) she'll see how excited we are about her performing. Just hope she doesn't get "stage fright"....LOL!!! Actually, her comfort zone is a really important thing for Wednesday night's performance. We all saw what happened when she sang "Over It" the first couple of times. She just wasn't sure where to go with that song and of course, we later found out it wasn't one of her favorites from the album.  That's why I think the song that she and David select will be possibly a "re-mix" of something she has already done.

No matter what she sings, I hope she knows we are all behind her 100%!!! This is the boost we've all been needing! Her most loyal fans have never even given a thought to her not being a "viable recording artist"!!! That's the biggest "where the heck did that come from" comment that Simon ever said and has been put in print! And, even though we know he'd never admit that it wasn't a mistake to say it, he will really have to eat his words on Wednesday night!

Someone, anyone, please pass him the salt!!!!
