KATLAND, December 14, 2007 - Katpedia.com announced today it will re-launch as a interactive song catalog and fan community on Saturday, December 15, 2007. The catalog is designed to create a record of every performance of Katharine McPhee's career, exposing casual fans to the significant breadth of musical content the songstress has delivered, thus promoting growth in the fanbase, and allowing die hard fans to more easily engage themselves in McPhee's music with quickly accessible media organized in a simple presentation. Additionally, visitors can opt into the site's Pledge Per Play program, which provides registered members with the opportunity to pledge as little as a penny for each audio or video file they access from the site to the Rhythm of Hope Music program, a partnership between McPhee Outreach and the Lollipop Theater Network. Although no money will be collected by the site itself, instructions on how to donate will be provided and participants will be able to enter their donations so as to be included in the site's running total of dollars generated. As part of the program, Katpedia.com currently offers 183 streaming audio files and 298 videos, to go along with 156 images, 21 slideshows and 237 article links connected to McPhee's 131 unique songs and 398 performances, some never before seen until now. Moreover, any visitor has the ability to add media to the catalog so as to ensure Katpedia.com can remain the mecca for media every fan can benefit from. As a result, Katpedia.com considers itself a collaborative project among fans who wish to celebrate McPhee's artistry. With the goal of treating each performance as a vocal that can be experienced as easily as a studio recording, the site's Playlist functionality integrates its streaming offerings with users' legally downloaded hard drive files. No music available-for-sale is provided at Katpedia, but digital download and merchandising links are, as well as a way to add purchased music to your personal profile so they appear in the catalog without any uploading. The ability to share the playlists you create with friends, as well as commenting on videos, and viewing the most popular performances were among the site's early initiatives in creating a way for people to continue to share the musical experience. Further enhancements to build a community around the music are expected in the future should the site prove popular. The site is expected to go live Saturday evening, and soon as Kenneth and Phee wrap things up.
That's GREAT!!!
Thanks Ken!
Kat has 398 performances out of the way now? This shows how busy she's really been...and how time slips under our feet like someone pulling a rug away. I think most industry vets would say that having that many quality performances (and close to every single one of those performances are) is akin to near greatness and signs of superstardom descent. I doubt any other Idol alumnae has that many performances in a database--especially in the diversity of each performance.
Well, I thought Katpedia was just becoming a storage site for media pictures lately, but I'm glad to see Simon and Ken getting back to work to make it into something. It's probably impossible to turn it into a Wikipedia level site without giving nervous breakdowns to those involved in the work --but just organizing her musical works is the true centerpiece of what it's all about. Having that choice of donating to the site is a good idea, too, so the hard work can be rewarded through the users.
I think that initial awesome Katpedia commercial made on Youtube sold the whole idea to thousands of people. It's obviously a good idea, though, to not overextend what's possible. It's smart to focus on the music--because if you asked even the most uninitiated of Kat fans out there lately--they'll say that they just want to see and hear her sing. Or, we could poll people and see if those Blender outtakes somehow come in tied for first.
great news kenneth and simon
WE LOVE YA!!
Wow! And, thanks to whomever put up this reminder on Katpedia.com. I just checked the site where the only thing so far, is a huge photo of Kat's beautiful and a little younger looking face! Young people's looks change so fast once they hit the 20's! She looks so cherubic (I think t
