Well McPhans, we did our best, and now we find out at 9:55PM ET if our best was good enough. We were pitted against a very formitable foe; no not Taylor, but the Soul Patrol. Of all the contestants we could have faced in the finals, the Soul Patrol made Taylor the toughest. In a contest with 30-40M viewers, how important can a fanbase be? Plenty. Since AI in their infinate wisdom turned the finals into a 4hr voting stamina contest, they effectively negated the effect of the casual voters, who probably got tired of dialing after the first hour. That left the fanbases to hold down the fort for the rest of the voting period. And the Soul Patrol was up for the task. According to dialidol statistics, Taylor's lines started at 86% busy, dipped down to 81% busy at the halfway point, then inexplicitly recovered to 82% by the end of the night. The McPhans started out strong at 82% busy but started fading after the casual voters gave up. We then suffered a sharp decline in the final 2 hours, almost like half the less dedicated McPhans had turned in for the night- finishing at 66% busy. Now I'm not sure if this is cause for despair, because if we kept Kat's phone lines saturated the phone vote totals will be relatively close, and we can still take it on the text vote. I'm just concerned about our call voulume during the last hour or so of voting. Some of you may remember this quote from my Voting Strategies thread:

IT MAY EVEN BE THAT WHOEVER CAN KEEP THE PHONES BUSY THE LAST 2 HOURS WILL WIN!

Hopefully it will NOT prove to be prophetic!

Now if I put this in perspective, McPhans did a great job overall! We kept the phone lines busier than we ever did any other round, and only let up in the end when some of the more casual McPhans turned in. But the Soul Patrol may have outnumbered us by a large margin. If so and Kat loses, it is the fault of the AI voting system that the contestant with the largest core fanbase wins, and not the most deserving, nor the one picked by America.
