It's just that many have had the unrealistic expectations of a multi-platinum album (yes, me too!), and we're in the process of readjusting our expectations to a more reasonable level. And yes, I agree that Kat has done remarkably well with this album considering all the obstacles in her way. To make gold will be great, and to make (near)platinum would be absolutely amazing!


I hear ya Bill. I guess my expectations weren't quite that high though in the sense that I never expected a first CD to go multi-platinum, especially considering how bad the sales are in general in the music business today.

While I'm finding everyone's opinion very interesting I'm just not going to go into my views on why the CD isn't doing better. Even though I think Kat is capable of putting out much better material I'm still loving this CD and haven't given up yet in thinking things can still turn around for the better. Actually, I think OI did quite well.  Guess I'd just rather let my thoughts run in that direction than trying to dissect every aspect of Kat's music and the industry right now. As far as I'm concerned, Kat's the best thing out there these days and I've got every intention of doing all I can to continue to support her. Granted, we're all disappointed in Kat's sales numbers, but let's not forget she put this CD out in just a little over a month! How many of the top Pop artists ever do that? None! Therefore, to compare her to those big Pop and R&B artists right now is more than a little unfair in my book.


It's good to have enthusiasm, but lets keep our facts accurate.  While you may not consider "The Black Keys" a top artist (heck, Katharine isn't that yet) but they recorded their 2nd CD in a 12 hour recording session; and furhermore it was praised as one of the best releases of 2003.  Time spent in the studio, be it short or long, is no proof of the quality of the end product.  It is how that time is spent.that is important.

How is one expected to improve if you are unwilling to examine what you have done honestly? I think this is very healthy. I personally think that all is not lost for her, if she starts taking music seriously and teams with someone that can "rein in" that uncontrollable exuberance of hers. Being an artist doesn't just happen, it takes a lot of HARD work. We'll just have to wait to see Kat wants to be an artist or a celebrity.

hmmm, sounds like some people are changing their minds in the middle of the game. well not me, i've always been patient and will remain that way. for some, it doesn't happen over night, i really don't think i have to remind you of that or maybe i just did.

i love the cd, still don't think the promotion was the best and now if we fans don't get out there and request this song Love Story til our fingers fall off, it will be us, the fans fault for her failure, is that what i am to understand.  the cd has some really great songs in it, i hear alot of crap songs out there that get played and played, over and over, that aren't even half as good as some of Kat's songs, so go figure.  i'm still here for Kat and hoping that something kicks into gear for her, but just looks like it's going to take time is all. 

 this was just me rambling again.

We already know she was not asked to come back last season but I also understand that during the intermission of the AI concert this summer they are playing videos of Carrie Underwood's, Kellie Pickler's and Daughtry. That would have been a great way to keep her name and voice reaching a lot of people....especially the Love Story video, It seems like AI is going out of their way to do nothing to promote her. What could she possibly have done to piss them off?

The Firm, which represents Taylor, is starting a label i think. 19 has 19Entertainment, 19 Management, and 19 Recordings.  All Idols remain wiht 19 recordings. Some like Kat buy out of their contract. I've always thought the management thing was the most plausible explanation for the snub.

I still think Katharine would be better served by a different Label and management team.  Unless you are a Chris Daughtry or Kelly Clarkson, it seems that they aren't too interested in the folks (like Kat) that do well, but not spectacular.

This may or may not have anything to do with what you are wondering but I recall hearing Kat doing an interview with someone on radio or TV when she was asked if she was going to the AI show and she made a remark that she had to promise her boyfriend Nick  that she would not sit in the audience of AI.  I guess he felt that it would be tacky or something.  I was a bit surprised that she would reveal that to the public since it was AI that got her started.  Word gets around, even to the execs.  Did anyone else hear that interview or did I imagine it?
