I've always thought all these activities should somehow feed into each other, but maybe I'm just being naive. I know some people wish she'd cut out the other stuff and sing. And maybe some people DO just want to look at her and couldn't give a damn if she ever sings another note. I'm not one of them. I want her to do it all. But maybe that's just not realistic. I don't think I've ever been a fan of somebody who seems to have as many avenues open to them as Katharine does, so this is kind of a new problem to me. I'm not sure where to go from here, except regular visits to dbroom's radio request site (I just hit the Michigan stations, esp. the ones who've already played her) and my thread in the Voting Booth forum, where I vote at as many places as have current information. I know there are a couple of other Michiganders here. Detroit doesn't seem to be as kat-friendly as other places, but we can try. I may as well mention one more time, since she has a hot video out there, hit up VH1 and request it! It takes a little time to write her in as a wild card, but maybe if we keep doing that they'll eventually get smart and add it in themselves. They did Over It.

Well, unless the record companies have changed since I actively left the scene, just the mere fact of Kat doing all of these non-musical related activities used to be considered "jerking around the company". Yeah, who knows who is the one really making the decisions in terms of what she does in the business. She just may be the victim of circumstance. But, just the mere fact of her appearing on all these magazine covers and accepting various acting gigs, gives the illusion (real or not) to the average fan that she is not taking music seriously. All these concerns will quickly vaporize as soon as she goes on a long tour and gets her music to the masses.

Aren't we getting into a chicken and egg thing? If she has a huge single or two and an album that's selling, they'll put her on the road in a major tour? But if not, we get radio tours and canned music. So how does she get to the point where she gets the big numbers to warrant a tour? What comes first? Right now we seem to be at a point where she needs some kind of push to get radio play, which will generate interest and sales, which will generate theother stuff which will feed back into sales numbers. I'm getting that mental image of the snake swallowing its own tail again. This is making me nuts.

No, I can completely understand someone on the outside thinking that all of this doesn't make any sense. But, having been there I know for a fact that an artist doesn't have to be "big" to justify a tour. In fact, that's how many artists get their name out there. That's how many lesser known artists make a living; by touring, especially those that don't release new material very often or even don't have a record deal. Right now I'm working with a group that just has their own independent CD out and virtually no airplay, but they are making a nice living for themselves by performing live and touring. Even without radio airplay a tour can help an artists visability and can lead to many positive developments in their career. Since Kat's album is not flying off the shelves anymore, the best way to help her MUSICAL career would be to tour. I know it probably isn't on her top 10 things to do, but it's part of paying your dues to justify your career.

So far, her album sales don't warrant a tour and she would have to sell many thousands of albums before the record goes back on the BB200. She is obviously over budget for this album and it really isn't clear why they seem not to be promoting Love Story especially after spending a great deal on a big production video. It makes one wonder if she will even continue with RCA when it comes time to record a sophomore effort, or even if she intends to remain a singer. There are many questions in terms of career path that only Katharine can address. In the immediate present, they really need to debut the video with video markets and that way the public will even be aware that she has a current single. There needs to be a great deal of clarification as to her intentions, as it now would seem that she IS jerking around RCA instead of the reverse. I agree and have always maintained that she needs to tour. Her movie project will go a long way in making her a household name, but not as the great singer she is.

It's a very popular exercise on these boards to diss RCA and I try to stay away from that especially given my relationship and mutual respect I have with Clive and RCA. I tend to agree with those who feel that Katharine has some soul-searching to do regarding her future as a recording artist. The label is already swimming in red ink with her debut album and would like to know definitively about her future intentions. No negative intentions here either.

Most of what you say I agree with 100%, except for the part that her album sales don't warrant a tour. My client has sold about a tenth of what Kat has and they are now successfully touring.... and making money doing so! Like I've said all along, touring shouldn't cost money; it should make money. Granted she won't be filling the major arenas at first, but that isn't necessary at this point. She just needs to get that butt of hers out there on the road, and prove to people that she is taking music seriously.

Well then, how about we all bombard VH1 with requests for the LS video? I can't remember the link, I just keep telling people to go to the Voting Booth forum and look for my Collected Sites to Vote thread. That way maybe they'll see a few other places they'd like to vote too. And I'm not sure I see where they spent tons of money on this video. There were 3 sets, none very elaborate, and once again they concentrated on their best asset, which is Katharine's visual appeal. That doesn't require anything complicated or expensive, just buy her a pretty gold dress (very short) and a pair of 4" heels and a wind machine, and turn her loose. Oh yes, there was JT's choreographer, but that still doesn't add up to a hugely expensive video.

I'm not sure what you're requesting from RCA. If you're looking for a radio request site, dbroom has a link to his very comprehensive site in this forum and I think also in the Voting Booth forum. I stuck in a thread with a few sites that are not geographically specific but are big (TRL, VH1, Z100, Sirius satellite radio etc.).

Thanks groucho. I've been requesting LS at MTV.com & VH1.com, but I was trying to find an e-mail address to request info from RCA re: LS. (When will it premiere on the video channels, when can it be purchased on Itunes, etc.) At least RCA has LS on their website now. I guess I'll have to wait until Kat appears on Leno & Regis&Kelly. Your right about the sites Dbroom has in the forum, it's very informative.
