Ok, so earlier as I was searching for the Fall Out Boy CD, I came across this link.

http://www.rockdrift.com/wordpress/2006/06/02/49.html

It seems that FOB and Kidz Bop have had a disagreement about whether or not KB should be allowed to include "Dance, Dance" on the music list for KB 10 because of the lyrics, ”I only want sympathy in the form of you crawling into bed with me”. Now whether or not that's appopriate is beside the point, but if you read the article , it says that Kidz Bop doesn't need permission to redo other artists' sons UNLESS they change the lyrics, which they probably wouldn't do unless it was something inappropriate and IF YOU HAVE NOTICED Over It and Love Story seem pretty appropriate to me. Which may cause a problem. Once again, IF you have noticed, Kidz Bop tends to do a lot of current songs. They've done plenty by Kelly Clarkson and I think they might have done some by Carrie Underwood, Im not quite sure. But what I'm saying is, OI and LS are prime targets for KB because they are current, fun, and appropriate for young kids to be singing and listening to. BUT if you bother to look at the icon I chose for this thread, you might can infer that I DO NOT LIKE THE IDEA OF A BUNCH OF 10 YEAR OLDS BUTCHERING KAT'S SONGS AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND I am worried that they will! Not like there's anything we can do about it, but I just had to express my feelings, and this seemed like the perfect place. Thank you. =]

I'm not too familiar with KB.  Isn't it like the "NOW" CD's but with kids singing the songs?  I guess it should be considered a form of flattery to have them do one of your songs.  I think they pretty much do well known, hit songs, right?  I know what you mean, Sammer, about the kids butchering Kat's songs, but look at is as free publicity.  Hopefully she has a single that reaches that level to where it starts getting covered by other artists (and I use the term artist lightly).  I'd love to be at a random bar one night and suddenly hear someone doing a drunken karaoke verison of Open Toes!  That's when you know you've made it.

From the little that I know of copyright law, anybody can record any song if they want to, as long as they don't change the lyrics. The songwriter(s) can't stop any singer from recording the song. However, the singer will have to pay the standard royalty fee, which is usually higher than what the songwriters would give you if you negotiated and he/she/they gave you the right to record it. So, most singers try to make a deal to the songwriters first before recording the song.

I guess, what this article implies, if you change the lyrics, you now have to get the songwriter's permission. Unless, of course, you're doing a parody of the song like Weird Al does. In that case, as long as you pay the standard royalty, you can change the lyrics to whatever you want. (In the case of Weird Al, though, they say he always gets the original artist's permission because he doesn't want to get on anybody's bad side, and it's cheaper, too.)

(Somebody correct me if I'm wrong...)

Look around Youtube sometime. People are starting to do their own versions of all kind of katsongs. They sing, they dance, or some variation on those themes.

They better not...

I really can't stand Kidz Bop.

I'll let you judge if this is flattery or not! We should ask KT, JoJo and Beyonce!

Here's a Kidz Bop 11 commercial with BHACT, Too Little Too Late and Irreplaceable.

(No, I'm not a collector of these things. It was in my Kat on Teen Nick caps!)

Oh sure, as he quickly stashes Kidz Bop 1-10 back into their secret hiding place.

Ughh I can't stand KidsBop songs, they totally take away the appreciation you have for the songs that they sing. Little kdis singing totally off key and the harmonizing is bad and those little annoying voices that butcher the whole thing, NO THANK YOU! I prefer to have Weird Al try and sing Kat's song's instead LOL.

THANK YOU!!!!!! Sorry, no matter what you say it's not gonna make me feel better about it in any way at all and I see absol;utely no good in it. Because, I mean, i's not rele free publicity because nobody rele listens to it. And if they do, they'll think of it as KB songs not Kat songs. Im still kinda pissed... but thanx for ur opinion! =]
