This showed up on American Idol Wikipedia:

  • Week 10 (May 16) - Leona Lewis (The X Factor UK winner) is to perform her as-yet unannounced follow-up single[citation needed], Elliott Yamin is to perform his debut single "Wait For You." Ζ]
  • Week 11 (May 23) - Kelly Clarkson will perform "Never Again".[citation needed]

    • Can anyone make sense of having Leona Lewis (X factor winner that also sang Over the Rainbow) on with Elliott? and NOT Kat?

    It also looks like Kelly will be at the finale the following week.

    I cannot understand WHY KAT would not be on the show one of these 2 weeks?

    Maybe there's still hope (since there is no mention of Taylor or Chris either) - but I wish we could find out for sure.

    Taylor will definitely be at the finale; ostensibly to pass the mantle on to the new Idol. The previous year's winner is always at the next season finale which makes the non-appearance of Katharine a double mistake.

    with all the negative press thats going on about American Idol I'm not sure whether it would be a plus for Kat to be on? It may be better for her to shed that runnerup title and just be Kat McPhee

    Leona Lewis...who friggin' cares about Leona Lewis?  Anyway, yeah that they don't mention Chris or Taylor in there is promising.  I think we're fairly sure they will be there.

    Anyway...they cannot possibly have Elliott & Kellie on this year and not have Katharine on.  It just looks bad for Katharine.  Like Idol doesn't want her.  Or she doesn't want them.  Neither one of those is a good thing for people to be thinking.

    actually...i care about leona lewis!! she is the friggin bomb!!!!!!!!! although of course id rather have kat on. but leona is the next best thing for me. so im really excited that leona will be on, i have been waiting for her CD to drop for a while!! and if kat isn't on, it will be really sad but we just gotta deal with it. if she doesn't go on the show there's gotta be some rub w/ her and AI or AI and her. either way.

    what pisses me off about this is that elliott kellie and now leona frickin lewis is invited on
    while their runner-up last year has yet to be invited.
    its not fair. Kat needs this appearance

    Oh gosh! leona is gonna sing on AI! she's awesome!!!!! one of the best voices i've heard in my life!!... and about katharine... they HAVE to let katharine perform on Idol, but if it doesn't happen well.. everything's happens for a reason ...right?

    That one's easy.  Cowell obviously made it happen.  He thinks she's all that.  What was the quote?  Something like "the best female vocalist of any singing competition".  Gimme a frickin break.

    Well, I think it's disgraceful if Kat isn't at least invited back to AI to perform. If it's her choice not to then I'm OK with that. If she chose not to then I'm sure there must have been a good reason for it, but I doubt she wouldn't want to if given the opportunity.

    I was afraid this backlash was going to start once the time came that it looked unlikely Kat would appear on the show this year. There's nothing there that would indicate the people at 19E have some beef with Kat--because we know they all loved her on the show. That means there has to be some other reason behind her not being on the show this season if that ultimately happens. We have to keep that in mind and maybe assume it was either her own (or her management's) decision not to be there.

    Kat's contract with 19E I think is up in June too--and it'll be interesting to see if she'll re-sign for another year (or more). You wouldn't think that just because Kat's debut album didn't go platinum--some of the head brass at 19E aren't inviting her to the show based on a bias of sales. That wouldn't make sense when you consider Elliott will be there...and he hasn't sold all that well yet. Maybe there's some inside knowledge that Kat won't re-sign with 19E this summer. Sometimes inside contract negotiations can throw relations into a tizzy, despite all loving one another on the outset. What happens in the business end of things and the personal end are two different things.

    And then we go back to that possibility we've talked about before of Kat appearing on the show as a surprise rather than a pre-announcement. Frankly, I think that'd be a brilliant idea. It'd also make people check it out more on Youtube after the fact because they may have missed it. So, overall, that strategy would give Kat an even bigger viewership for whatever song she'd sing.

    One thing that hasn't been mentioned that I think could be the reason behind her not being there: The "clearance" to sing her songs on 'AI.' It could be Nate Hills has a beef with having his songs performed on 'AI.' That's nothing unusual--considering numerous artists have refused to license their songs to the show. If Kat can't sing a song from her own album--then there wouldn't be any point to her being there as we've all said. I guess that proves that just because you have a minor co-writing credit on those songs--you don't have complete control on where they're used. That's sort of too bad for the future use of those songs Kat contributed to.  It all comes down to who owns the copyrights. Apparently Nate Hills does.

    I asked Jammer to ask Kat tomorrow in Seattle about the 'AI' appearance. He has an m&g with her tomorrow there. If Kat just says "If I tell you, I'll have to kill you"--then you know the lengths 'AI' goes to in preventing spoilers...

    Im not gonna bother thinking about all this. If AI isn't gonna have Kat on there, then screw them! In a year or so people will forget Kat was ever even on there, she'll just be Katharine McPhee, another modern day singer. People will like her just as much as they would if she had appeared on AI again. Like Amanda said, Im not even sure if it would be good to have her on there or not. I will tell you, I don't think Over It was the best choice as a first single, especially seeing as it doesn't sound the best live. If she would have done Love Story or something like that first, she probably would have beenon. But as soon as Love Story starts getting around and she starts performing it more and people [including AI] realize how much better it sounds than Over It, then AI is gonna wish they wud have booked her and that is their problem. Kat is going to do just fine either way, so there is no sense worrying about it. =]

    Maybe it's because Kat could easily overshadow Taylor, and the runner-up overshadowing the winner cannot be good for the show's already wounded reputation.

    But of course, I still want to see her working that stage again!

    I never heard Leona Lewis before ... but then I found out she is the winner of a UK show called X Factor which I have never watched either. Well ... I think it's a 19 entertainment type of deal. It would be a huge deal if Leona can find a success here. Anybody wants to find a success in the US, who doesn't ??

    I'm still hoping she will be at the finale.

    I Know why Leona will be in AI ...Simon LOVE HER , he was her tutor on The XFactor, when she sang Somewhere Over The Rainbow, he said 'that was the single's best performance that i've heard in my life' ...after katharine sang Over the rainbow on AI... so i guess he's behind all of this..

    If both Chris Daughtry and Katharine will not be present for the finale of American Idol 6, perhaps the reason is as previously mentioned, both Chris and Kat would far outshine last year's victor..Taylor Hicks!!! The producers may not relish that the 2006 'winner' would likely be overshadowed by the 1st and 4th runner-up!

    I don't know the producers reasoning, if they chose not to have Kat perform.
    I am shocked how some of her fans continue diss the other singers from AI5. It's almost as bad as insulting her boyfriend.
    The competition is over. I'm sure that anyone that is fortunate enough to be touring and selling albums from AI5, would wish Kat mutual success.

    They really have nothing to do with whether or not Kat appears on AI6.

    I certainly hope this rumor is true as well, but her lack of appearance shouldn't be blamed on anybody.  It very well may have been her management who decided that an appearance on AI wouldn't go far in advancing her career.

    We shouldn't really diss the other season 5 contestants, the competition is long over and personally there is no  animosity between them at this point.  They are all professional recording artists, some faring better than others.

    Those of us who are getting upset over Katharine not being on American Idol are sounding a bit more selfish than Katharine would want us to be.  It probably wouldn't benefit her career long term at this point and she is now on her way to shaking the association with AI, why prolong it?  Kelly Clarkson has managed to do this and Katharine has the best chance of  anyone to accomplish this as well.  Her development is coming along well, and her management knows what would be best for her.

    This makes me happy and I hope it's true. Kat (along with Chris and Taylor) should be on and should not pass up an opportunity to have her music heard by 50 million (or so) people.....
